There are actual legal consequences for those who were involved so it's not a simple matter of getting a proxy or going through vpn/tor or getting someone else to troll for you. 2.) People talking smack all the time is not a valid defense for acts of defamation and/or harassment. Which is what some of these incidents fall under, at least for Korean law. Open to criticism =/= invitation for harassment and defamation. 3.) There is precedent that, at least in Korea, what you have just stated is completely untrue. Just look at what happened with the incident concerning Flash. Are you sure they can't just use proxy/vpn/tor? I don't know Korean internet infrastructure and regulations but how would they trace it? Besides, all the people saying they wished other countries would have the Korean system: Do you really want to give the government all power on the internet? Are there not many struggles for freedom fed by the web? Would you want to stop these just so you can deal with some trolls who hardly do any damage at all, at least in the Western world?

She just says (paraphrased) "Maybe you are one of those posting offensive stuff under another name. I hope for your sake that you are not". The Haeun_Cielu guy seems to try to draw a lot of attention by making unfounded accusations and trying to make Jessica sound like a crazy person. He is definatly not a good source - though i can just judge by your translation. Unless there is _another_ person on twitter who gives more information, i would consider that case closed. It's just one guy hating another person and blowing it all out of proportion for doing something he doesn't agree with. Okay basically in Jessica's tweeted picture of the docs, he saw his twitter screen cap there. In addition he actually recieved the suit and had to visit the police because of it. He didn't post any photoshopped images or such just critisized. To be honest Jessica has been constantly hating on this dude, retweeting stuff he wrote so that her fans could how "mean" he was by saying "by the actions of yesterday I'm disliking slayers" You can see his tweet here printed out (look for the cat image) http://yfrog.com/kkmtkej . He's not attention whoring, Jessica has attacked him and sued him, unjustly at that.

Hell, for all i know, he could by lying... Also, the image shows a list of search results for a specific search term Jessica printed (Top of the Page: "Results for (some korean letters)". There is no reason to believe everyone who used that term got sued. There isn't even a handwritten note or anything besides the tweet. She might just have printed that list to later go through it and look at the tweets in detail (at least that is how i would do it). Also, we do not know what happened before that. At least I only know about his claims, but i don't know whether he has written other posts besides those on twitter. Why are there no reports of other people claiming to be sued without reason, just this one guy?

I was once taken to the police because of a man, who - strangely enough - has said much worse things than about me than I have about him. Luckily, the policemen were reasonable and the case was quickly abandoned and I was suggested to sue him back. But I would never do that, I would feel like the silliest person ever. Please, everyone out there, be reasonable and do not ever sue/report to the police/whatever other people for anything they say. You may have the right given to you by law, but you should understand that it is fundamentally wrong and refrain from using it. Do not let our freedom of speech be decided by lawyers.

The sad fact is, that this is definitely not the case in most of the so called "developed" countries. There is almost no place on the Earth where really free speech could be found. Oh, so it's ok that i tell everyone you know that you drink a bottle of whisky every evening before going to bed and you bring a flask full of booze to work and drink from it secretly every time you go to the bathroom... oh, and that when you had your LSD trip, you slept with the girlfriend of your best friend? Oh, and don't forget that time you raped that girl after the disco, lucky she didn't recognize you and you didn't get caught... It's true, really. You told me all that when you were drunk 2 nights ago. Well, the point is: Things you say can have serious influences on how other people see the person you are talking about. It starts with little things like "Yeah, that girl puts out with anyone who asks" which can destroy the reputation of a perfectly fine person and cause serious mental issues. I'm not even talking about the worst stuff someone could say. The search was 김가연 Jessica's name. There isn't even a handwritten note or anything besides the tweet. She might just have printed that list to later go through it and look at the tweets in detail (at least that is how i would do it) A good point that but as far as I know she basically submitted the entire bunch of those print outs to the police. Those were the finalized copies I believe. As far as I know Haeun_Cielu was the only one caught up, checking various communities and stuff and got the most attention due him being retweeted. To be honest I think at this point, we are running out of information and just have to wait for new information. I just wanted to add in some points that Jessica could have handled this better.

They said on SOTG today that South Korea has the highest celebrity suicide rate in the world, and some of it is because of flamers. If it is that serious and if every Korean is not truly anonymous online, then I think Jessica is doing a good thing trying to protect her players. While that might be weird to do in the US, it seems like bringing this stuff up to police in Korea is not an uncommon thing to do. Trolling does trigger suicides. So does bad weather, divorce, losing, bankruptcy. Human rights are international, u cant possibly mean Korea cant have it whenever it turns out inconvienient, because there are so many trolls there, or because of their warped perspective on honor, shame and morals. U BRING DISHONAH TO OUR FAMILY! If if people wants to help, try supporting Eve, instead of putting random kids in jail, their lives is just as important, and love her even if she only plays in gold division. Troll them back, ignore them, do whatever, just dont fucking ruin their lives by putting them in jail, and give them a criminal record. Anyone ever think that celebs are also doing harm? shes got money, looks, one of the best jobs ever, living a dream? just because im envious doesnt mean im entitled to go on a Manson rampage killing off progamers. U cant force people to like u, by police military or brute force, and prison is not a trivial thing and Koreas suicide problem is not caused by internet trolling, even though it could trigger it

I hope it all works out in the end and people forgive her. But she is good for e-sports overall. And girls are good for e-sports as well. I play curling (harhar), and because it is a sport where men and women are nearly, if not, competitively equal, the sport really started to benefit when men and women events were featured separately and together. Probably not the same for SC2, but if there is a female MC out there, it will be very hard for her to find her way if this is how people react when she makes her first steps. She is a great mama-bear ^_^.

I have had endless hours of this argument with my friends and many of them would say exactly what you did. But it's not about "I will just start saying aything". When what i call "true freedom of speech" is established, people will start to realize, that words being simply thrown around do not mean anything. Actually, I argue that in such a world it would be easier for people to handle bad things being said about them. Without the presumption that any wrongful statements would be fought against by their subject, it is less likely that they are taken seriously. I am sorry for starting a debate that is slightly off-topic, but I felt that the sheer amount of "oh yeah, Korea is so great for beating internet trolls" has to be balanced somehow.

But suing people for expressing their opinion seems ridiculous to me. Slayers clearly picked Eve for attention. Attention is what she got. Definitely. That this attention can't all be positive should be more than clear. This is what you get for picking a completely unknown person with an unknown match and ladder history. Does she expect everybody to cheer?
