And EVERYONE on the show assumed he was apologizing for his english and saying he would practice harder... I found that awkwardly hilarious.

Oh why is that interesting? Lol replacing quake live? The newest most brashful controversial esport vs a game that almost was in that very first generation of western esports. As an avid watcher of esports This is going to be the craziest show ever so much hype.

League of Legends as a game currently have no features that makes it a esport. What does Riot do? Create a obs mode specificly for their own 100 000 dollar tournament at Dreamhack. They fly out every team and have their own commentators/coverage through game site/client. Stream reaches 210k viewers. They clearly gave IEM a healthy check to include their game, something QL could not match. All about the money. 210k concurrent viewers is also ridicilous for any foreign esport event, something sponsors cant ignore. Its not that LoL is a better sports than QL - its not. Its simply that League of Legends has a massive playerbase and a company behind it that is willing to throw cash at it. It kind of reminds me of World of Warcraft in the sense that it was "forced" into tournaments through money/playerbase and not on its merits as a viable ESPORT title.

TONIGHT's SHOW: We bring on head of the Intel Extreme Masters Michal "Carmac" Blicharz to discuss the recent announcement of the IEM6 season which saw the removal of Quake Live, the addition of League of Legends, and Starcraft 2 / Counter-Strike 1.6 come back for another round. We'll be discussing the process of choosing games, why Quake had to go, the first event in Colonge at GamesCom, and the legend of Uszat with the 'IdrA unprofessional asshole'. We'll also recap the Shadowloo Showdown 2011 & Eastcoast Throwdown 3, along with the beginning of the new GSL season. Other topics include: - Pepsi sponsors GSL - TheNextWeb article on MLG & eSports - CZM's 2.5 year old thoughts on Quake Live - EG Masters Cup Finals coming up

THIS. The one credit I will give to LoL (and I'll probably say this tonight on the show), is that WoW Arena was never going to get a proper balance, because they can't offset the Single Player experience to accommodate a small slice of Arena Players. In LoL's case, RioT doesn't have to worry about that, because their balance effects the MP game itself. However, I do think RIOT is a bit more invested on making it work as an eSport, and I don't feel like this is say, Painkiller, which bought it's way into the 2005 CPL World Tour with absolutely no intention of supporting it as a full blown eSport (which ultimately backfired on them)

If they want to throw money at tournaments to let them in, fine, go for it, but look what happened to WoW Arena when the money dried up and the interest shifted. There was no grassroots community to sustain it because Blizzard was in direct control of all tournaments (nobody could run their own tournaments, unlike in SC2), the same thing applies to LoL right now.
