You forgot to mention that Marauders and Roaches can't attack air. Stalkers are faster than the other two. Maruaders can stim, Roaches can regen health when burrowed. Hmm seem pretty different to me.
By your definition, you could say that the zealot and zergling are pretty much the same, just a difference in stats and a gimmick upgrade.

Great write-up. But I am not impressed with the information Blizzard released.. HotS doesn't look so hot right now based on what information is available in my opinion.. Hopefully I'll be positively surprised as more information is released further on.

Awesome, loving the multiplayer news! I'm glad that they are willing to not only add new units but remove some as well (hopefully colo lol). Sad about their response to LAN tho

Okay, so, slight change in stats, according to you is the fact that marauders and roaches cannot shoot air, differences in speed which are variable depending on the current context of the game, different damage values entirely, and different costs?

It's like calling a plymouth superbird and a honda civic the same thing because they're both cars.

Regardless, the units themselves don't show up in matchups for the same reasons. You don't build roaches to stop air, you don't build stalkers to stop roaches. This proves that they are, in fact, quite different. If they were the same, they would always be used in the same situations.

If you meant by the actual "flavour" (for lack of a better term) of the unit being similar, yes. They're ranged units. But they are going to be adding units, so one can only hope we get more intresting varities of units. But I'd rather have the game balance be put above cool unit concepts.

Zerglings are an extremely mobile units whose only use is to keep the other army from running away (except in early game, ofc). Zealots are intended as a meatshield that the opponent has to focus down before they can get to you Stalkers (in PvT, at least. You really don't use Zealots against the Roach/Hydra ball that much).

Excellent write up.
Part of me still missed the SC/BW storytelling where you have a whole race champaign which have a lot of plot development =S.

The part where they want to remove units for multiplayer interest me...

oh wee if they remove units i am curious to find out which version will become the esport version, my bets are on WoL xD.
Anyway awesome teaser, sc2 looks so improved in there, luckily the designers and programmers of the game have some extra time while they wait for the bnet part.

I was bothered by the comment that they were thinking of removing the obs because it wasn't "cool enough"

I think it's partly because each mission is RPG-like, so you have multiple objectives in each mission, which seems to be confirmed/reinforced by the write-up of the two missions.
