CatZ I don't think you could of said ROOTDestiny anymore times. I think personally unless the female gamers are models and competiting in bikinis or something, there's not much point to a female league. Its like the one guy on here that's got a disability but doin his best. We don't give him a handicap league, no he says I'm gonna kick ass all the same despite the odds.

I guess its cool that girls wanna play too, but you have to be careful about them getting equal attention, why? Because if you're getting as much exposure and benefits as someone who is better than you it degrades the "sport".

Baseball is hugely successful, girls play mostly softball, nothing stops baseball from being successful because its only guys. Or even a better example, I used to race karts, go-carts just actually fast and anyhow, girls raced, one friend of mine even won a lot. Its a gender neutral sport and in this case even more so.

Saying guys and girls are wired different and all the other crap is irrelevant. I just don't think its a good thing to spotlight people who win something in a handicapped environment. You have lets say a masters level tournament, there might be a guy who never wins them because top players play in them, but yet that same guy might very well be able to wipe the floor with the "girl gamers" anyday. Is this logical or productive for the scene? I'd be inclined to say no.

Really its beneficial largely to companies as they can increase marketing to new avenues to increase sales, that's about it. Grats and all, but here's my conclusion:

TLDR: Ok great she won a female cup, if she's got the skill then play in the "regular" tournaments as well and see what results you get. Lets not get skill bubbles popping up from segmented tournaments, any of the girls need to go out there and try their hand at the normal tournaments with no gender requirements. If this is all a stepping stone then use it as such and nothing more.

I'm surprised with TLs response to this.

Imagine a world where there was 1 tournament, and only 1 tournament. It began with HUGE amounts of qualifiers and ended up with the best of the best.

Yay.

Now imagine a world where there were 3 tournaments. 1 for professionals. 1 for college level (intermediate level). 1 for amateur level.

Sounds even better IMO.

Now imagine a world where people made tournaments just because they wanted to, then invited their friends or random people that were like them. TLers invite TLers. Pros invite Pros. Random Bronze people invited Random Bronze people. Old people invite old people, you get where I'm going right? They don't ban male genitalia because they are too good for to play with them.

Now think back to when you were a child (seemingly not long ago) did you make friends with girls or rich/poor kids or gingers or blond kids? I doubt it, you probably were friends with one or two "groups" because you had things in common. Yay things in common.

Or maybe they just have an all girl tournament to watch the flames burn on forums.

you are incorrect.

YOU all divide the community across the gender line by running the "female cup." period.

there is no fundamental difference in a male person's physiological make-up that determines whether they will be more skilled at this game than a female. if there is a cultural split, work on mending that. there is no split in the game itself. let people's skill shine, not their gender.

It's actually a simple fact of evolutionary biology that makes females being among the best in the world at *anything* very unlikely, regardless of whether it's physical skill being tested.
In terms of fighting for mates in primitive society, it's very easy for females to reproduce, while only the males of highest standing in the group will get to mate (and they will mate with many females).

It therefore makes sense for males to have more variation, and females to have less variation. If males need to be at the top of the group to reproduce, they are better off with a 10% chance of being really good (mating many times), an 80% chance of being average (mating 0 times), and a 10% chance of being really bad (again, mating 0 times) than to have a 100% chance of being average (mating 0 times).

For this reason, in general males in most mammalian species will make up the very best in the world as well as the very worst in the world at any given trait.

can a mod explain why the first post deserve a ban and not this one?

please don't pretend you are doing science claiming such false facts... please go back to study the evolution theory and ethology...

for sure men are better at anything and it's because of evolution... For instance, I am really better than my girlfriend at playing backgammon because since millions of years woman prefered reproducing with good backgammon players, that's a fact and not at all because such people like you consider that since she was a baby she should rather learn to take care of a doll than playing with usefull games

Would love to see money involved in this tournament in the future =) To help make it even more competitive. I know a few female gamers who've been improving leaps and bounds after seeing this.

Yeah as much as I am all for the equality of the sexes, people really need to do some reading on the differences between the male & female mind.

some people are idiots, ofc girls will be more encouraged to play the game if there is a fem cup, it shows presence in the community and reduces the feeling of being isolated

I didn't watch the games but I support the concept

also gj and gratz to winner

yeah, sure. Please, give me a link to just one scientific publication which has not been proven false since its publication proving a difference other than the size between a man and woman mind.

people really need to do some RECENT SCIENTIFIC reading AND NOT MASS MEDIA CRAP on the differences between the male & female mind.

I saw some of the games, very entertaining, even though the casting wasn't my cup of tea, but I always need a few days to see if I like a style, so dont mind me.

also WTF about the hating in here, great concept and tourny, keep it up and running.

Like Catz said, its not about being better or worse, its about encouraging community development and growth. The fact that the community is 99.99% (estimation) male means that the top will be about 99.99% male. Get more female gamers in the community, female gamers will do better. If you guys know anything about professional sports, the way to grow a country's power at a sport is to get more and more kids to play it. More players equals more top players. Great initiative and congrats on the win.

Good job, flow! I welcome female players into the eSports scene because I get tired of being apart of a scene dominated by males. It is nice to hear the occasional female voice to mix it up.

And you need to read up on the scientific method if you think that modern neurology can unequivocally state that the male brain has an inherent advantage at strategy gaming.

Nuff said.

You are a prick.

Awesome interview also! I've been trying to find stream that doesn't lag like crazy to watch the female tournaments but most of them lag for some reason or another (high viewers, old computers.. etc.
