So basically what you are saying is that men are inherently mentally and physically better at sc2 than women...?
The studies you offer are no evidence of the ludicrous claims you make. The idea that men and women in general may 'think' differently, in no way implies an inherent, sex related advantage to sc2. Don't try to obscure blatant sexism with the pretense of 'enlightening' others. You could argue men and women play sc2 differently if they process it differently, but your conclusion is the result of ignorance and sexism-- nothing else.

But aren't all those differences tested with some kind of IQ tests with the problems something relatively new to the test participants? Gaming could be very different because the top players have played for hours every day for years. All that practice makes factors like motivation and focus while practicing most important for the end result of individuals.

I would be more inclined to suggest that the sheer lack of female gamers, especially hardcore ones, brings about a lower average skill level for the best female gamers. Many who have the potential to be the next female Flash simply never pick up gaming because either 1) society frowns upon it or 2) they are never introduced (by a friend or otherwise) to begin with.

Be very careful how you interpret data like that. Without knowing how the data were gathered or what the variances are like it's very risky drawing conclusions.
It may be true that the average male has better spatial reasoning than the average female. But if 47% of females still have better spatial reasoning than the average male, what does knowing a person's sex tell you about their spatial reasoning? If gender only explains 5% of that variance, it's practically useless information even if it's statistically significant.
It's also difficult/impossible to know whether the differences are inherent genetic differences or societally influenced.
You can look at a person, identify their sex, and you can make a pretty reliable guess about what genitals they have. But knowing their sex gives you no information that can reliably tell you how that person's mind works.
NinjaEdit: In any case, Flo is a badass baller and deserves to have this thread focus on her accomplishements.
Edit2: Sorry Flo for helping to derail the thread. Best luck in all of your SC2 endeavors and know that you've earned a lot of new fans!

LOL. Straw man. Not even close to what I was suggesting.

On May 05 2011 11:39 divito wrote: It's not even about the mind. Open a biology textbook beyond first year, and you'll find plenty. We're not just talking about how the brain differs (which it does unequivocally), but we're talking physically as well.
And before the "moving a mouse isn't physical" nonsense comes out, we're talking about the differences in motor skills, dexterity, etc... Add in the thought process differences and it's not hard to see. And this is all found by reading.
So basically you said-- you are trying to inform people they are wrong to think males do not differ from females in a way that allows them to perform better (than females), one which example you gave as being physical (moving a mouse), and then others being related to the way the male and female brains process information.
Either you are having great difficulties properly communicating your meaning, or I am not misconstruing and misinterpreting what you are saying at all, and which case you are just making a ridiculous, sexist conclusion that any inherent differences between men and women make men 'better' at sc2.

I have no idea why TL staff needs to warn every single post that they disagree with. moderating a website is fine, but i think sometimes the admins go to far, it makes people scared to post something that might be very relevant in fear of being banned. I understand that people post inappropriate things, but half of this stuff is not even that bad. I just don't get why people cant discuss a subject that is of interest without getting some temp ban or warning, when the post is not even offensive.
I have felt this way on many other subjects, but i guess i just wanted to get this out now... I have not posted many things on this forum, but i have been around for quiet some time. I thought that this was something that needed to be said.
I want this site to stay awesome :D
Congrats on the win Flo :D

you infer that this is why people complain about the female cup.
you are incorrect.
YOU all divide the community across the gender line by running the "female cup." period.
there is no fundamental difference in a male person's physiological make-up that determines whether they will be more skilled at this game than a female. if there is a cultural split, work on mending that. there is no split in the game itself. let people's skill shine, not their gender.

The thing is men are better than women, that's just how it is and will always be.
For example, name a couple of things which women are better than men at, for example world records, nothing comes to mind when I try to think about anything that women are better at.
