Put same folder structure into folder, that has highter read priority and you can change any sound, texture or voice. When Repair.exe does not detect anything, because NOTHING CHANGED in MPQ archives!
As example. Folder LibertyMulti.SC2Mod has highter priority, than Liberty.SC2Mod. Then put into this folder enGB.SC2Assets (MPQ file from folder Liberty.SC2Mod, that has lower read priority), recreate all folders structure, put new files, and play with new voices, sounds or textures without editing any MPQ!
MPQ Editing is bannable, but adding files into folder, that has highter read priority is not described anywhere in the license agreement

Wow, this is very interesting. "Replacing" Starcraft II Zerg musics by the Starcraft ones would be cool.
EDIT : I did it.
Here is the .rar if you want. Just unrar it in the Starcraft II folder, then launch Starcraft II.
DOWNLOAD Link
Important : There are only 3 Zerg musics in Starcraft/Broodwar (afaik), and 9 in Starcraft II. The game randomly choose one of the 9 musics, 3 of them are now Starcraft I Zerg tracks (the 01, 04, 07).
If you only want the SC1 ones , copy several times the 3 tracks and rename them ZergSC2-01.ogg to ZergSC2-09.ogg.
|
I think I might actually use this. Hrmm.
|
LMAO @ blizz for the blatant rip-off of the way .PK3 files work xD
Wait... Does that mean you can actually start "model hacking" now ? Doesn't take a genius to import a model into 3DSMAX and add a giant circle around it saying "zergling zergling zergling" or "stargate stargate stargate"...
First I thought that could be fun... but seeing the applications... meh, not so damn much...

lol..... the way some people think..... if you change textures, in any way and get caught.... you will get banned. Just because it doesn't cover it in the TOS specifically doens't mean you can just do it. If you changed textures you could remove the stealth textures, cheating, plain and simple.... you will get banned if caught.
Also, posting this work around will only highlight it, so blizz will shut the loophole down anyways and doubtless think about implementing something like punkbuster has, that scans ur game files to check they are legit, if it finds files that aren't supposed to be there.... you can get banned.
Thinking that it wouldn't get you banned just because its not explicitely stated is like arguing that putting milk in your coffee instead of cream isn't covered by your right to freedom of choice, because that specific freedom isn't in your countries constitution..... it is covered, by proxy.

You can still .MPQ edit in other Blizzard games without getting banned (I've done it myself multiple times) and they haven't "Fixed" it.
I agree, with you when you say that you CAN get banned for this of course, although it may not be stated in the TOS now I'm sure they'll add it in, or it could be hidden in there somewhere. All I'm saying is that it'd be hard to get caught for this, editing/replacing the stealth texture though, now that's just an interesting idea.

Do you by any chance have the Terran and Protoss music from Broodwar? It's about to get all nostalgic in here.

This is the way it worked for quite some time for MPQ. Used to be doable in WoW but they removed the ability to override MPQ data due to hacking - you put in different version of a zone that changed doors/paths and got to bypass content you didn't want. This lead to no more model hacking also, or at least a lot harder to do.

I suppose this is related to how you used to be able to use custom hotkeys by creating a hotkeys folder in the sc2 user directory. Now, custom hotkeys are stored locally in the same folder.

Someone should do this to put all the zerg sc1 unit sounds in, and put up the download for it.

Couldn't you just replace the stealth texture with something that's a solid color instead of clear?
Edit: also, what about replacing the tiny nuke dot with the big circle that the nuke-user sees?

I shall now replace all music for every race with Terran music from SC1. It will be amazing!!!
In reality, this won't really make any difference for me as I don't really have any reason to modify anything. I listen to my own music while I play and whatnot.
Though it would be cool to see someone replace the ghost's shooting sound with someone saying "pew pew".
|
|
so is there a way to make it where in a custom map game I can have a scv become like a baneling unit instead (still with the scv unit properties)?
|
Hmm I am tempted to change sc2 pewpew tank sounds to original kraaaawoooom tank sounds... is it safe..hmm
|
I tried this, by adding a sound for nydus birth. That worked!! But it also overwrote everything else, all textures sounds ... everything. and it overwrote it with nothing, since i hadnt put any other files in it, so everything was just placeholders.
How do i fix so it only replaces what i actually try to replace?

Couldn't you just replace the stealth texture with something that's a solid color instead of clear? There are only unit body/model texture. No reason, it's pink or got increased brightness or red dots around. Unit model with stealth cannot be seen by player, no reason, what texture it has.
Holy crap EXPLOITABLE Why? We don't change game client. We don't modify MPQ.

How do i fix so it only replaces what i actually try to replace? Put files into highter priority folder.
Example.
Liberty.SC2Mod contains zergling sound. Then put new zergling sounds into LibertyMulti, because last one has bigger read priority

Can this be used to change the background of the main SC2 bnet screen without violating the TOS?

I'm not sure you read my question

I only created the folders leading into the nydus sound: "StarCraft II\Mods\LibertyMulti.SC2Mod\base.SC2Assets\Assets\Sounds\Zerg\NydusWorm\NydusWorm_Birth0.wav"

this is how things used to work with WoW
eventually they patched it so the game only loaded files from the MPQs, so use it while you can~
edit: the ToS most likely covers this as a bannable offense (as the ToS basically says they can ban you for anything), but after doing it for years with WoW, nothing ever happened. they'll probably patch it pretty quickly though.

So if i want my scv in nexus wars to roll around like a upgrade speed baneling would this allow me to do that somehow? Or is that something that would have to be included in the published map version?

I don't know, why it's not works in NA.

can you have it play a mapwide sound whenever a building is placed or spawns? or change the models of buildings to be larger than they actually are so you can see them without entering the base (ie a single plane that extends south and is coloured to indicate that building)
stuff like this sets a bad precendent, i hope blizzard comes down on it

I quote: "2.7 modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of any Game or the Service in any way not expressly authorized by Blizzard;" Just because you are not modifying any MPQ files directly, you are still changing the game with its content by exploiting the behavior of Blizzards MPQ library.
|
This is definitely against the ToS.
Also, it has been known that this works for quite some time. The same system works in WoW for certain things (they've blocked most of it). You can change the WoW background music, for instance.
|
So it doesn't work for NA? That's a shame, I wanted the nostalgic Broodwar unit responses on my Marines
|
The ToS is wide enough that they can close any loopholes through the utter vagueness of its language. You will get banned for this.
It's nothing new, it's not a loophole or legal workaround, it's just another way you can tinker with the files to get yourself banned...and Americans evidently can't do it.

Can one use this to switch to the Korean zerg voice?
Or is there another way to do that, I want it:D

Forgive the bump, I just thought with the recent ban that perhaps some people could comment on how this has worked out for them. I'd love to replace Zerg unit sounds...All of them. But I was wondering if anyone has had any success with that and if they have been banned.
Cheers

I think, can't. But if you will find folders (I mean, create them), that will overwrite folders from MPQ, so then you will can
|
I can't believe some people are willing to risk a ban just to change the in-game music o_0 Why don't you turn it off and play SC1 music on WMP or whatever player you use??

This folder prioritising seems to have been removed in the latest patch. Can anyone get it working?
|
The mod prioritizing still exists but it appears that with 1.3.3 SC2 no longer treats subdirectories as MPQs. If you use a tool to create a new MPQ in the libertymulti directory with the name "base.SC2Assets" you can still override the files from the liberty "base.SC2Assets". I just used ladik's mpq editor to test this.

It seems however that StarCraft is very picky about certain files when overriding like this (music is quite the work to get in).
