I was planning on checking this league out and then buying a season ticket if it was decent, but I'm really worried about putting down $25 to get a laggy stream.

People need to stop saying day9 should cast this. They should stop drawing unfair comparisons to tastosis. Instead let inc/gretorp find their own voice/casting personality. Yes they may be struggling a little bit, and some criticism is surely due (as it will help them improve) - but saying they should get rid of gretorp because of one sub par performance? That's not helping anyone. Remember the object of this thread is for improvement.

- Keep the production tab open 95% of the time. You can jump to income when you're talking about harvester count, apm when it's relevant, units if you have something insightful to say, but for the majority of the game production gives the viewer the most information. - Can we please lose the t-shirt and blazer attire? I don't know how this caught on, but if you're going to wear a blazer, at least throw on a collared shirt. - The new Blizzard UI is really nice looking, but it has no concept of a series of games. I tuned into the end of the Moon vs Grubby match and had no idea they were 1-1 and playing a third game. The same thing happened when watching the second game of TLO. Please add something to your display to show the current record of the best of three.

This, but I'm from Sweden and have the same problem as the others. Last night worked well, but I couldn't stay up as it would have ended like 7am or something. Apparently the HQ stream is just as bad atm, so I will hold off paying until I notice stuff being stable for a while.

2. I could hear everything fine, but it would be nice if we could hear the two commentators at about the same volume...I found myself turning the sound up and down quite a bit. 3. Awesome that you guys did player interviews and were trying to work them into the show, but a lot of the clips played were very brief and the transition to them seemed a little awkward. 4. On the standings section of NASL.tv right now, it doesn't appear that you can actually sort the divisions by record/points (I assume it's done in this order). I feel like this should be how it is sorted by default. Of course anyone can do the math themselves, but anyone looking at that page is likely looking to quickly see who is first, second, etc. Not the list of players in alphabetical order. 5. This is minor, but multiple times when you were displaying the players picture and then an arrow pointing to their corresponding bases, one of the cameras (I think always the top one) would focus on a different area of the map. Even in one case to the other base which I could see being confusing to viewers. I do like the overlay though...just have to work on making sure it's showing what it's supposed to. Overall I thought it was a very strong day one. The lag in the final match of course was a bummer...are these games played on a neutral server like the TSL does for NA vs Korea for example? I understand of course aside from minor things that's largely out of your control though, as are the quality of games on any given day. Gretorp and Incontrol, you both did fine. Can't expect two casters to become tastosis overnight. I look forward to following the rest of the season!

As for suggestions, I think they've pretty much all been said - a score indicator, in-game music, an observer so that the focus doesn't get lost in moments of analysis, and some transition/editing things were a bit weird. but all-in-all a great damn job, hooray NASL!

This bugs me as well. Being a sports guy, I'm used to seeing divisions ordered by who has the most wins or points. I don't want to have to search through ten names and records and make a mental list of their standings.

They looked like they're having professional equipment in the studio, so not sure how the end product can end up sounding like it did. 7) Would like this as well, but it's not that big of a deal. 12) Gamma of the stream is clearly too high, yes. Especially noticeable in game, when looking at the minimap. edit: oh yeah, the score display is another one. I've seen it pop up every now and then, but it should be permament, really.

Tasteless and Artosis do the t-shirt plus blazer thing. That's the style of GSL and also the level of GSL is where NASL would like to be someday i'm sure. On April 14 2011 03:03 SilverJohnny wrote: JTV seems kinda hit or miss with the lag issues tbh, last night I watched it in full 1080 for the first part and it was fine, I had to leave and go do something, and when I got back it was slightly laggy even on 720. I don't think the lag is on JTV's end tbh, but i'm not an expert on this so meh. The quality was very high though, so at least the VODs should end up well even if the stream seems laggy. This for me as well. Was full 1080p and i was like OMFG THIS IS AWESOME!!! Then later like into the Grubby Moon match all the sudden it was super laggy and i had to kick it to the 720p. Even then there was some lag on 720p. It could also be the size of the viewership tuning in cause it seemed at the start when 1080p was fine for me it was like 20k viewers then as it approached and broke 25k viewers the 1080p went to crap and i had to knock it to 720p. Just my obeservations. All in all for the first day of it i thought the matches and commentating were good. I'm stoked for the season and glad i bought my season pass!

I think the thing that can be most improved upon is the camera work. It was just far too passive, and missed so much. The observer should be watching the minimap constantly, looking for army movements, harassments, and expansions, and checking the production tab to spot new tech paths. It would often be focused on the main base of one player. Moon vs Grubby G2 comes to mind here. The camera was always focused on Grubby's base or Grubby's army. I think Moon's base was shown once in the beginning of the game and the camera never went back there. The camera was also focused on empty patches far too often. Often the camera would be focused on less interesting aspects of the match. To use Moon vs Grubby again (G3), near the end Moon attacks Grubby's 3 o clock with his main army, Grubby's main army goes to defend it. The camera catches the two armies going towards each other, catches some mutas attacking the undefended 11 oclock (which I liked), then went to some DTs attacking the 9 oclock (again, good, showing as much action as possible). But then the camera went back to the mutas which were still uncontested and we missed the 2 armies fighting. The tabs were also not used well. The default tab should be the production tab, it lets the spectators catch things the commentators have missed. Income tab can be interesting at times, as well as the army tab and units lost, but only at specific points in the match, like just before 2 armies clash or right after two armies trade. Sheth vs Artosis G1 had the units lost tab up almost the entire game. It was useful to see at times, but because the production tab was not up and the camera was focused on the front of either Artosis' or Sheth's base, the spectators never saw Sheth's many switches until the units were on the field. The observer should also take cues from the casters. At least 3 times, Incontrol said "Now if we look at the income tab.." and the observer didn't change the tab.

I think one of the most important things missing is a dedicated observer like there is in the GSL. The dedicated observer does such a good job of making the game easier on the eyes by avoiding sharp jerky camera movements and rarely missing things that happen because of the constant focus on the mini-map. This also allows the commentators to really focus on the casting and not on making the camera look nice.

1. Awkward angle of main studio camera: too much lip of the desk visible and Gretorp and iNcontrol seem like they're hiding behind it. 2. Mic quality: heard a minor echo from large room; rustling of clothing noticeable 3. in-game camera movement needs improvement: several times it was looking at nothing when a large battle was underway 4. Weird placement of overlays: Currently above Minimap, would prefer an overlay on command card or over spectator tools. 5. Awkward 4-up display of player cards & starting position: Pic of player with arrow points to incorrect start position, and views are opposite to where you'd expect ("he's in the top right" = player's view in bottom left). I would suggest getting rid of the 4-up and instead use the beginning of the game to show each player's base and an overlay player card (more like GSL). 6. Commentary wasn't perfect, but practice should help. On one hand, good deal of "stating the obvious", but on the other, that sort of commentary makes it very accessible. Also, you guys are the kings of hyperbole ![]() 7. Ehhh intro vid: I'd really like to see a new version of this. Below are some ideas/recommendations... A. the transitions between the clips of gameplay need work. Here's a really good method (the quick horizontal/vertical shift between clips, and I also like the unfocused edges), please emulate that if you can B. Clip of Gretorp/iNcontrol: super derpy atm, would much prefer an epic pose (Random pic for reference, esp 3rd guy to right) with your names below C. Different music plz? "BLEEYEAHHHH-baoo-de-duuuu" repeated ad infinitum is yuck. My favorite SC2 tourney intro music was the HDH Invitational, it had a fun beat, a simple catchy tune and it grew in intensity so that you were always stoked by the end. Try to find something that captures those qualities! Things from the OP that I support (exclamation marks for my favs, bold are my comments): On April 13 2011 10:36 archflames wrote: 1.- Add ingame music. (maybe music while they're talking) - !!!!!!!! 6.- Avoid showing the lobby screen. (some like to see the pre-game chat like me but i guess some people don't) 7.- Instead of doing player profiles in one big batch at the start, put them inbetween sets - !!!!!!!! 8.- Justin.tv logo is over the stats tabs (when stream is not in fullscreen) 9.- Put an observer in there so the commentators can focus on commentating. (i don't know if this is already how they're doing it) 10.- Disproportionate focus on some of the players activity. 11.- Improve editing all around. Obvious cuts between banter/into game. 14.- Better control of the resources, income, units, units lost tabs (etc). 15.- Volume fluctuation. 16.- The NASL and the casters should inform the audience of what exactly is on the line . Is player gonna be eliminated? Will they advance? etc. 17.- Remembering to make the casters Refs, so they can tell the players to pause if they are lagging, etc. 18.- The Menu Bar (F10/F11/F12 buttons) at the top of the screen can be hidden in options.

I found the match VODS eventually by looking through multiple part, multi-hour long videos on justin.tv, but it was difficult, and non-obvious. I was not able to find any link to any match VOD whatsoever (just pregame interviews, etc.) on NASL.TV itself. Did I miss something obvious? I am logged in at nasl.tv (although figuring out if you are logged in or not seems difficult as well). In a related note: When I click on the schedule, and then click on a matchup: I want to be taken to the vod of the match, not be immediately spoiled by the RESULTS of the match!!! AAGH!!
