I just came across a truly epic ZvT and decided to share it with you all. I then started thinking how cool it would be to have a thread with the best SC2 VODs (similar to this thread), maybe there are hidden gems I don't know about!
I've taken the liberty to use the format of the above mentioned link. If you post recommendations I will add them to the OP!
• 55+ min long • unorthodox unit compositions: ghost/tank/thor/hellion vs broodlord/infestor/lings • "cute" micro: ever seen a ghost getting neural parasited for sniping/EMPing all the other ghosts?
I still don't think that IdrA/MVP game is anything that should be put in "most epic" games of sc2. I debated it in the original thread. IdrA played amazing and MVP got behind. The zerg massed muta and got map control then wore down MVP and finally won. It was close, MVP made it close because he is so talented with marine/drops, and it took awhile for IdrA to finally finish him. I just don't see why its so amazing. Zergs shouldn't lose if they get that many Muta/that ahead. Totally standard to me if anything from a Terran perspective.
LiquidJinro vs dSeLeCT Ace Match - Game 3, GCPL - Delta Quadrant (bad map, I know)
Incredible game. I've never seen a Terran get so far behind and be able to come back and win. SeLeCT's defense at his natural, his repair/micro was so insane IMO. While being able to harass at the same time.
Well yeah I guess if you are Z you enjoy seeing T being behind the entire game and slowly getting killed.
thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll try to update as regularly as possible.
I think that game still fits into the list, simply because of the amazing gameplay shown by both players. It's great for the lack of mistakes made throughout the game. For ordinary players the game would have been over much earlier.

100% agreed with you. That game was a bit hyped and it was nothing that special but a good play from both players. Nothing out of extraordinary...
I definitely agree that the Idra/MVP game should not be included. There's been much better suggestions already included in this thread. I'll go through later today probably and thumbs up all the ones I agree with and add any others I can remember off the top of my head.
MC vs... HongUn, I think it was. The PvP in which it came down to an elimination, both players only had 1 pylon, and it was literally a split second that determined the winner.
Theres a lot more epic matches ofc, specially if you start rewinding the past months of SC2, so i tried to focus on matches recently played. Hope you enjoy some of them.
I like IMMvP vs ST-Bomber from GSTL last season, featured one of the biggest comebacks i've ever seen with creative play from both sides, unfortunately replay isn't available

yes indeed. back in the day when TLOs big late-game strategy was putting up 3 ghost academies and just running around trying to nuke everybody. so fun to watch. this game was the first promatch i ever watched and what made me become a fan of TLO and the general proscene for life. TLO hwaiting!!!
If you're going to do a most epic SC2 games of all time, you're going to have to add the HasuObs vs TLO game in Metalopolis. My most favourite game of all time for sure!
The Idra vs Mvp game is really nothing too special. Only thing amazing about it was how Mvp managed to stay in the game so damn long. That guy is a freak.
I recommend TLO vs Hyperdub too from season 1 GSL. Mvp vs Bomber from GSTL Feb. is also good. Crazy comeback.

Pretty sure SC2's been out for longer then a year >.>
Not sure if you're just trolling, but the SC2 release was in July last year and the beta started sometime in February or March as far as I remember. So yes, it's about a year.
ImLosirA vs Supernova Game 6 (Code A finals) IMMvP Vs St_Bomber (GSTL Final) IMMvP vs St_Squirtle (GSTL Final) MarineKing vs KyrixZenith Game 3 LeenockFou vs TSL Clide St_July vs NaDa game 5
MarineKing(known then as Boxer) v Kyrix in the season 2 GSL quarterfinals. Awesome, Awesome game to watch particularly game five on Shakuras. it was the game that made me love MKP.
If you are going to make a thread about the most epic games ever. Then please only use EPIC games. People here are posting mediocre games and mediocre series.
LeenockFou vs TSL Clide ( Only because it was the first epic macro game on Shakuras) Mvp vs Squirtle ( Mvp first sign of cracking against P) DarK.FoRcE vs. BRAT_OK ( Because some sick plays)
Those are pretty epic games. But don't make every good game an epic one, otherwise we can name 100 games in the 6 last months. If idra vs Mvp was an epic game than every game from sanZenith from GSL 5 was epic... And another 1567 games from the GSL.

I did like the mass ghost play though.
No way man. There were a huge amount of corruptors on the field. The decision to not go vikings meant corruptors were turned to Broodlords. You can't hypothetically say if X unit was built it would have been different, because then the player facing unit X probably wouldn't have made the same decisions.
One of the games in the Drewbie vs Socke series at MLG Raleigh was amazingly epic and entertaining. Also most of the last GSTL finals was amazing, particularly that one ST_Squirtle game. San vs. NesTea was amazing, particularly considering the expectations going into it.

Sure it would've been. He would've used his snipes on Corruptors instead of Broodlords. Leaving the vikings free reign. The broods were a response to mech -without- vikings. It would've been different.
The timing on Leenock's mutas to destroy the tech lab first game was amazing. It's a pity it didn't work out the retry of that game. It was still so freaking good though. This is where Leenock showed he could play pretty fucking well, he just has to practice more, and get more stage time.
There's actually this other game with Leenock vs. Liquid`Haypro on Scrap Station.... it was actually pretty good. I watched Doa cast it on his site, or channel or something. Anyway, the game is really interesting, despite both players doing a somewhat similar build. Leenock does a really good job though of knowing just how much economy he needed, and punished haypro with it. Not really a game I would consider one of the best, but still really interesting.
Anyway, the Clide vs Leenock GSL3 - Ro64 is a really good game.
The problem with this is that a lot of the games will be from various GSL seasons, which are unavailable to most people to watch. I think they need to release the VODs of all seasons more then 4-6 months old, so we can have these kinds of threads include them.
The MVP vs Idra match is overrated. MVP was disadvantaged the whole game. He had a chance to catch up of course, but both are so good at macro that it didn't happen. It was a lot more one-sided than it looked despite MVP's efforts.
Oh my GOD! The darkforce vs bratOK game was insane! >.< Haven't seen it before, everyone should check that out!! ^^ Best game that I have seen.. TLO game is pretty epic to tho!
And Alpha has been out for WAY longer, whats your point...?
Alpha doesn't count because the difference between Alpha and Beta and Beta and Release aren't close. At least, generally agreed to not be close. Alpha had all those units and abilities that didn't make it, while Beta resembles the Release.
What comeback was there? Idra was ahead almost all the time. MVP's first push failed and that set him behind the rest of the game. Unless you call defending a Terran push a comeback, there wasn't one.
It's really interesting to see that while there are definitely some games that keep coming up, there's a lot of variation. I would highly, highly recommend the SanZentih Vs sCfOu ( I believe). They were huge macro games with non-stop action and some incredible micro battles. One of their games had SanZenith on 7 bases and I don't think any of their games were shorter than 30 minutes. And that was 30 minutes of non-stop action, no passive macro fest here. One of the really fantastic things about these games was how dead even these players were.

It was this game, if I remember correctly it was White-Ra vs Maka on the Europe vs Asia series. Asia went 7-0 in the first matches and Europe had a great weekend getting back to 8-3, I think it was the last game that weekend. I'll try to find a link.
Anyways, it was a long macro game, with EMP's, storms, templar-drops on that awful map back from the Beta (incineration zone).

Are both great games imho.. But I've got to say again, Darkforce vs BratOK game is the most epic I've seen.
The Jinro Socke game is the one game that came to mind immediately when i saw this. That game was ridiculous and keep in mind this game happened when desert oasis had been removed from the map pool for a month or two.
Hmm... I really dislike your Idra MVP choice under reason why to watch you should put : mvp refuses to gg... it's great game but not epic Idra has so many better games... for instance Idra v MVP on steppes of war (gsl 3 ro32)
Bomber was choking so hard and everything was going wrong for him. He was so far behind. Then he realizes how far he is and pushes, creates a base trade situation and ends up beating MMA.
Jinro vs Socke, Jinro vs Hyperdub. Maybe remove Machine vs KiwiKaki because it is more of shockvalue than an actual good game IMO. When I watch it I just think of landing tanks on lost temple/jungleStory BW cliffs, except not quite as groundbreaking ;p.

I had the exact same thing to say. It was one of the first SC2 games I saw, and it got me hooked right away.
TLO was using Nukes more effectively during the Beta than anyone else has since. Whenever I think TLO, I think about him attacking Nazgul's 4th in that game, and then nuking between his forces and Nazgul's just to buy time to finish off the nexus. It's easily my favorite game from the Beta, and one of the best overall.
Double hatch in base attempt to cheese, scouted by White-Ra. MaDFroG goes for a nydus, gets it up, White-Ra loses his base, but walls off his natural with canons long enough to beat MaDFroG.

IMO it wasn't that great of a game. WhiteRa already had a large army and while losing his base just pushed to the win. MaDFroG could have easily won if he didn't have so much minerals at the end at simply mass spine crawler. He was quite ahead and would have won if he did so.
I just spent the last 5 minutes trying to first find out how to spell bjujeuler, then searching to see what it meant. Epic game though. I thought TLO was toast for sure, and that is why he is one of my favorite players.
Some realy good games here. OP if you want to keep the thread alive you're going to have to update it. The reason that the "Most Unusual Pro Starcraft Games" is such a good thread is that the thread starter has put a ton of effort into adding new games.
TLO v. White-Ra was definitely not that great. It was great in the beta, but compared to now I think it should be taken off the list. Also I'm sure we can find alot of games better than that IdrA v. MVP game. It shows how ridiculous Terran can be off 2 base, but IdrA really was ahead the whole game. He only won because MVP chose not to be aggressive with his initial bio push when IdrA had over-droned.
hey guys, thanks for all the games. I'll try to watch them all and write a little summary of each one. sadly I'm really busy writing a thesis atm, but you can expect an update at the end of next week!
Whatever happened to MadFrog? Heard about him alot during Beta and right around the time he did that sick game against White Ra on Scrap Station where it was base race (Day 9 may have covered it?), but haven't since then.
This is one of my favorite videos. Pretty old, but I think it's still legitimate. Mass nydus worms all over the place to make ultras super mobile and snipe expos and retreat safely.
Game one last night, from the FXOpen Invitational #2, supernova vs zenio on TD altar. Absolutely bananas game. Zenio took and lost probably 40 hatches, there was action all over the map. It was the sickest, most action packed game I've seen in sc2 so far. It really hearkened back to the best of the SCBW games where a jillion things would be happening at once. I was really impressed.
Edit: Another baller game was a TvT between rainbow and jinro in the group stage of the last GSL. I think that was one of the most epic back and forth TvTs I've seen in a very long time. It's a game that still sticks out for me.
special thing : constant harass to let the toss move from base to base ghosts taking out colossus nukes + reaper even after 40 min ingame mark nice comeback by qxc
I couldn't believe the switch to Reapers, but it made so much sense to keep the Toss running around all over the place. QXC just kept delaying and delaying while slowly picking the army apart. Oh, and cloaked ghosts running down and killing a collosus? Fantastic!

The whole freaking TSL3 deserves a spot in this tread. Honestly, I haven't seen matches so exciting before. GSTL2 ? Close, but no cigar IMO. Serious hats off to TL for making it happen and even bigger hats off for the players performing miracles in every game !
I have a hard time considering this truly a "best game of sc2" when lag could have played an issue; rather than games on the same server where we know that's not the case.
GSL San v NesTea stands out to me- the game itself was fantastic, but the back story and pre-game Tastosis discussion just made it even more epic! + Show Spoiler +
The ro32 (maybe ro16) series between MarineKing (at the time, BoxeR) and KyrixZenith that first showcased the idea of marine splitting on the run against banelings.

I was just going to suggest this one as well. Back and forth, TLO hanging on by a thread, defensive nukes, and if anyone remembers the look on TLOs face when that game was over. It was priceless!
I can't see which video it is since i don't have a pass, but if it's game 3 on Metal, YES!! Saw it live and was blown away. That game made me want to switch to T afterward.
long games ≠ epic games. Bomber turtling up for 30 minutes like he's defending a xel'naga artifact while destiny sloppily throws away army after army doesn't make for an epic game.
I was watching some pro Korean reps yesterday and stumbled upon a hilarious game between NEXLife and Hwangsin. Checked on Youtube and sure enough it was casted.

Destiny vs. Bomber has both of these traits, as well as almost continual nuking, creative np usage, constant agression and mass mules. Yea, destiny played pretty sloppy, but that makes the game that much more impressive.
Idra VS drewbie in the beta, not sure if the are any vods of it, but i'll edit it in to this post if I find any. Awesome game with a hint of rage from IdrA to sweeten it even more ^^.

What does that mean? The Idra vs MVP game was played 5 months ago, but it still showcased higher level play on both sides compared to what was in the bomber vs destiny game. MVP was being aggressive with drops and pushes and there was a back and forth momentum throughout the game that created tension which is crucial. There was more to the game than just an 11 word summary in the OP, but if that's all you're going by then yea it could fall under those standards for epic.

I would like to point out though that the Destiny game was a pretty good come from behind game. He was basically even bases, but was able to keep bomber on the defense because of the infestors making it tough for him to just move out without ghost.
This gave Destiny the chance to get his econ up and start to get ideal armies which he could just throw away. Which, BTW, is what he had to do in order to keep bomber on the defensive and also to be able to keep throwing different units in with his infestors. What might appear as super sloppy play was actually very smart (Even if no intentional) because it always bought time and was just ment to starve bomber out. Which it eventually did.
Notice, that Destiny actually pulled ahead in the resources lost pretty close to the middle of that game with good infestor use (Even though he lose a decent amount of infestors), so I wouldn't call it sloppily throwing away armies. HE was making trades that benefitted him and forced bomber into turtle mode. Obviously Bomber looked like he was afraid to split his army up too much because he never had a good bearing on where the infestors were and also if he would get hit at any time. SO he had no choice but to turtle a bit.
I mean there are all these little things in that game that you apparently didn't notice because you thought it was super sloppily "throwing away units constantly" rather than a zerg taking a beginning Deficit and turning it into a win with smart trades and keeping the Terran on their back foot with use of infestor harrass and ling harrass.
You'll notice though just how good Destiny is in Game 3 where he did the same build with a less sloppy start and just completely destroyed bomber.
You're reading too much into it. Destiny was running around the middle of the map with 1 control group of infestors while his expansions were undefended. Bomber had the medivacs to be aggressive but just didn't.
Look, I'm not saying it was a terrible game, or that they're awful players or anything, but when someone asks me about the most epic sc2 games of all time this just didn't make my list.
- MVP's DongRaeGu vs. Slayers' MMA in the GSTL Finals - the Game on Metalopolis... pure epicness. - Same goes for IMNesTea vs. sCfOu Game 5 - on Crossfire. "Oh my god... OH MY GOD!" :D
Anything else... Yeah, that Darkforce vs. BRAT_OK game in the OP was extremely epic indeed. I generally love watching ZvT.
Before Jinro went to Korea I remember he played a game against Dimaga that was insane. I literally had no idea who was going to win. Also at one point Dimaga defends with an army of queens because he needs his larva to restore his drone count.
I think it was cast by HDStarcraft, but I'm not sure.
So this is a bit of a bump and the OP needs to update the thread, but the GSL FInals, Game 5 between LG-IM.MVP and StarTale.Squirtle should without a doubt be on this list.
I would add the ZvZ Empire.ViOlet v TSL.Symbol final from MLG Spring Arena 2 as to the best games I've ever seen list too.
I actually separate my best games of scII list into the ones which I found purely entertaining, to the games I appreciate for there strategy and skill. Though there's obvious overlap too since strategically good games are very entertaining too.

I bet the first time you saw someone use reavers in a drop ship with sick micro was probably the best match you ever saw because it was new. Then from that point on it was still probably pretty cool to watch but not as cool as the first time you saw it. Or the first time people saw boxers lurker dodge, or when july showed off his muta micro, or when vulture micro was discovered. same thing happened in this game of SC2, things we've never seen before were finally seen in the 2 years this game has existed. I'd say it was quite epic indeed.

Not to mention when it happened. It HAS to be one of the most epic games in GSL Finals history.
Leenock vs Clide season 2 or 3 of GSL. It was on shakuras and it was straight up nuts.
A slugfest that included EVERY tech switch from both players. It was the first time in SC2 history ghosts were used to counter broodlords and ultralisks. Probably the first time a GSL game included both tier 3 zerg and terran.

It was epic because Squirtle had absolutely no business winning that game and did, something like 3 archons, 6 high templar, and a smattering of stalkers/zealots were on that island when that attack hit, something like 32-40 supply worth of units (more than a fifth of the army) wasn't there and through sick positioning and planning squirtle straight up cakewalked that army. I mean shit, I wanted MVP to win but I still cringed every time I saw a yamato cannon blast hit a unit from like a screen away as they were fleeing, every unit counted, the whole game was absurdly tense if you actually watched what was going on and appreciate the subtle things.

He's right. It wasn't even close to a good game, let alone epic.
MVP had that game won multiple times but instead of striking the killing blow and ending the series 4-1, he decided to give the audience a show. People only think its epic because of all the pretty lights, tastosis getting hype, and the flashy ending. Nothing about that game was spectacular. No one showed excellent micro, strategy, or skill. It was just a 1A into a 1A with a vortex in the middle. I can name at least 10 games that were better that same day in MLG Arena.
Smart for him to put on a show? Definitely. GSL Finals have been less than spectacular for the most part. Does that make the game epic? Hell no.
If it hasn't been nominated already, LG-IM.MVP vs ST_Squirtle in the GSL Season 2 Grand Finals, game 5. Was probably the most epic game of SC2 I've ever seen.
I don't get how nothing happening for 30 minutes and getting ideal unit comps unmolested can even be considered to be an "epic" game, let alone "most epic"
How can you say that nothing happened in that game? standard engagements in the first minutes of the game with several drops, squirtle tooks a mothership mass recall in the mvp base, lost all his army. Game is in a death point while players are taking bases and both players were giving free supply for an incredible big engagement, ppl were really hyped, MVP get 200/200 BC. Mass recall in an island squirtle destroyed the expa but he lost the mothership and ton of units were traped in the island, squirle just had ¨lost¨ the game, BC's going on using some yamatos on archons, 100% nervous about what squirtle could do, it was almost imposible for squirtle, suddenly mothership vortex most of MVP army and squirtle killed BC's that didn't enter the vortex, All the people shouting really hard, casters shouting : OH MY GOD!!!!! then void rays came just in the right moment, vortex end mass storms and mass feedbacks just destroy all the invencible battlecruisers. Squirtle won the game, and MVP must play some game more to take GSL tittle. All this coming from a MVP 3-0 Squirtle in the GSL FINALS

(sorry for my bad english)
He probably didn't watch the entire game. The tension throughout the entire series and leading up to that vortex was incredible. By far the best game I've seen so far in SC2.

This. SO MUCH presure during that game. Also, i'm pretty sure we all thought that MVP have the game with that never seen army. And the Tastosis comentary was amazing too.
I'm not sure if it has already been nominated but I'd like to say that Leenock vs Jjakji Game 1 on Tal'Darim during the GSL finals was one of the best games in history. The army movements and strategic play by both players during that game was just incredible.

I mean shit, I wanted MVP to win but I still cringed every time I saw a yamato cannon blast hit a unit from like a screen away as they were fleeing, every unit counted, the whole game was absurdly tense if you actually watched what was going on and appreciate the subtle things.
agreed... there was quite a lot going on. it wasn't just sitting around for 30 minutes like other games (stephano vs kiwikaki... c'mon, we all know how that was going to end, it was just a slow painful death)
like kich said, there were a lot of subtle things, and it was an intense game; we didn't know when the other would attack or maybe pull something awesome off
it wasn't just a free turtle up game, one of them could have been punished (and there were some attempts to... like the mothership recalls and etc)
I don't remember exactly what league it was, I think it was first season of NASL, but anyways it was Hasuobs vs Ace in a 45-ish min long ridiculous PvP on Terminus featuring every late game protoss unit, including carriers. Does it ring a bell for anyone?
Best game that I can remember... Fairly late in the beta, it was TLO vs White-Ra on either Lost Temple or Kulas Ravine., game 2 of Day[9]s King of the Beta tournament.. It had motherships, nukes, etc... Not a pinnacle of amazing play, but it was exciting, to be certain.
I liked game 7 of the MVP-Squirtle finals better than game 5. I had no idea who was going to win the entire time. I spent most of it standing up just because it was so intense. The hold and then the overcommital against pulling the scvs again... my god what a game...

This deserves a bump. No game will ever surpass its epicness.
the most rediculous thing i've ever seen is game one of killer versus july from the clash of the houses tourney. basically killer went for sort of a wall expand and blocked his own nexus and july went all in with roaches when he saw and killer somehow held. not sure if it was technically epic but it was awesome. I'm not sure there's actually a video of it anywhere though.
