IdrA answers questions from the Reddit.com/r/Starcraft community about high-fives, NASL, game design, and more in an exclusive interview for Cyber-Sports.Net.
*I always yell at TorcH over correct pronunciation of his name (ID-drah) so I don't know how I done goofed it in the intro. :/ Nerves got the best of me...sorry.
Great interview! Idra is always so well thought out and straight forward in his interviews. Lovin it! Glad to have you back in NA, keep the great content coming!

To create warheads to destroy the Terran scum of course
Good to hear IdrA is so excited about this deal, glad he can spend some more time with friends/clanmates/practice partners. He is SO good, and still has so much more potential.
More player content is always interesting. Thanks Seltzer for putting this out there
The question overlay was a really nice touch, though on the longer questions it was a little bit strained. Maybe for longer questions, a summarised version would be more fitting. Small niggle though and hardly a detraction.
As for content, a lot of the same answers from Idra, but like he mentioned, alot of the same questions as usual. His comments on fundamental game design was very interesting though, and it could generate some very interesting discussion if thrown around between some pro gamers.
Also didn't know Inka was living in the same house as him and Machine. That will definitly create that team-house feeling that Idra has been missing!
I wonder if this means idra will start playing in online tournaments as well that are decent prize pool. Thanks for the interview wish there was a question on when he would stream again
I hope all the people that think he just rages all the time and has no emotion watches this. He really seems happy and i'm glad for him. He's an awesome dude
Greg Fields does seem to look like the type of person who would study physics or engineering. Heck, I see a ton of people in my physics lab that really remind me of Idra for some reason.
Also, it's funny to see JoshSuth now obligated to buy Idra a steak dinner. His trolling continues lol.
Anyways, very nice interview. It's cool to Idra's insights into his decision to return, the gaming house, and overall game design.

what?
For the past few months IdrA only had the korean ladder to practice on. Occasionally he practices with Ret but ret has his own decdicated practice schedule with team liquid and oGs.

Idra haven't got where he is at just by laddering don't know how did you came to this conclusion its not like he has been around only for the past few months

Its honestly a little in between, he had some practice partners but its no where near the amount he will have in America.

Did you even read what he said?
I did, he says that Idra got is where he is at skill-wise only by laddering although Idra been playing sc2 since the beta -ignoring his past sc:bw experience experience accumulates over time that is my point -his overall play wasn't shaped just by a couple of months
IdrA's interviews are always the best, hands down. He says what he thinks straight up, haters be damned.
His comments about how every mechanic seems to be based around getting stuff out faster is so true. I wonder how much of a solution taking them all out would be. Would definitely lead to a radically different style of play for zerg, if nothing else, what with needing a lot more hatches.
On March 01 2011 13:25 RickyKo wrote: idras comment on game design was very interesting
Woah I just listened to that part.
Considering Blizzard takes that route to balance by improving early game scouting, it would not only resolve somewhat of the issue of one base plays by making them less effective if you are good enough to scout properly, but it would leave them still viable if the other player doesnt play properly(i.e. scout it).

Alright, let me clarify, I meant to say that unlike essentially every other player in the GSL, IdrA managed to maintain a very high skill level with essentially only playing the Korean ladder for the DURATION of his GSL TIME (with occasional Ret practice and probably Artosis as cited in his interviews).

Great interview ! I really agree with what idra said about scouting. I would love to see overlord speed dropped to hatch tech , what a great change that would be.

So? Every other pro and a good percentage of the TL population has been playing since beta. Why is IdrA so good if he's doing the same thing that a lot of people are doing?
IdrA's kept up with the code S players by just laddering. Keep in mind that his opponents have a equally skilled practice partners as well as a steady practice schedule.

Idra hasn't had any teammates to practice with in sc2. He has basically only practiced by laddering. I don't see what's hard to understand.
Once again IdrA's interview cuts to the heart of SC2. The comment about aggressiveness being amped up, but scouting remaining the same is something so obvious (but I didn't think of it in those terms).

I don't believe it's an EG house, but just a house they share.
I used to watch PsyonicReaver cast alot when he lived at the "EG house" with Machine and Inka and it was referred to as the "EG house" quite often. Maybe he just hasn't moved out yet, or EG is letting him stay? But back on topic, awesome interview. Looking forward to more. xD Btw Seltzer should apply to cast Code-A games. I think that would be amazing.
Entertaining and informative interview!!! It's great to hear IdrA let out some wise words, especially his thoughts on game design. Even more, that interviewer was gorgeous! I don't know how IdrA managed to stay so cool with her besides him. =)
On March 01 2011 13:12 Ratel wrote: So Idra is a potential physicist?? interesting..
I thought he would be a biologist since he plays zerg.
LOL
Idra was accepted to go to college and study theoretical physics but then he won a spot to go to Korea on the estro sc1 team and did that instead or atleast, that is what I remember hearing from a different interview a long time ago.
Anyway, I really liked idra's point about aggression and scouting. I thought it was quite a valid point, and good interview overall.
Always like hearing him talk about game design, he usually has some really good stuff to say about the development of the game. Sad that people immediately assume anything he says about the game is just whining, cause he usually has some pretty smart things to say about the subject.

Tbh I think they should just delay some of the new mechanics like Mules, Chronoboost, Reactors etc.
This woman, Rachel "Seltzer" is a gamer herself. She was on WCG ultimate gamer season 2. But more importantly, that was an interesting interview. I liked the choice of questions; especially the one that prompted Idra to comment on the design side of the game, as opposed to its balance.

Lol youre a sensitive one. I was only clarifying a statement made by partybiscuit. By no means are me or partybiscuit saying that hes just an average ladder player. We're actually complimenting the fact that hes so successful yet hes one of the few without any real practice partners in Korea. I'm a huge IdrA fan and would love to see him get further in the GSL, but without practice partners, hes at a heavy disadvantage. Therefore, as a fan, you have to support his decision to come back to the states simply because he'll be getting proper practice. Now imagine how great hes going to be when that happens.

Well look at that chiseled movie star jaw. What kind of girlfriend did you expect that to reel in? Great interview, cant wait to see grack tearing NASL apart
It's awesome to see IdrA loosen up a bit. He seems to be more and more comfortable in front of the camera with each passing day.
It's fun to go back to the SC2 Beta when Artosis used to interview IdrA in his apartment and how uncomfortable and brief Greg is. He's definitely not that charismatic Firebat Hero or BoxeR but he's come a long way and is always awesome to listen to. His comments on game-design and mechanics were very noteworthy.
Wouldnt be surprised if Seltzer got some key interviewing roles in NASL (if she and Torch head back there), or even for Gomtv. She's hot and isnt awkward in front of a camera, the perfect combo
hmm the game design question made me wanna hit up some friends and play some games without queens, chrono boost, warpgate, mules/supply and reactors, I wanna see the impact on the game if you pull those mechanics out.
i love idra interviews, guy knows what he's talking about and he's very professional about what he does, there's a lot of stuff to be learrned from the guy (despite his ocassionally exagerated biases and anger issues heh)

haha without queen injects, Zerg would be exactly like how they were in bw ^_^

I believe she is Torch's girlfriend, though don't take that for absolute.
suprised more people don't recognize her.. she was just on the previous season of WCG Ultimate Gamer (the show incontrol did) and she actually made it pretty far into the competition. She's a gamer herself, i think she plays 3d shooters but I could be wrong.
Great interview, Idra is really REALLY good at this stuff. Also very nice from the interviewer, it looked really professional and I loved the clarification text for each question. Superb!

IdrA talks about that directly in this interview.
He says that Inka is not in EG but his departure was amicable. He also says that they are not considering their living arrangement to be a team house, just a few players/friends living together privately in a good SC2 environment.
Both interview very very nice. Idra's a boss. Would love to see blizzard take the early game in a new direction. timing pushes are too strong and I feel it detracts from the game quite severely.

Pretty awesome interview, IdrA must be really excited to be coming back home. IdrA, Machine, and Inca in the same house practicing? EG is gonna have a killer year coming up
Idra has imba interview skills. I really liked the comments regarding scouting being higher tier, making it very hard to do proper scouting without committing to teching (ie fast robo bay or lair) and being able to counter stuff.
isn't this from like a while ago? and by a while I mean like a month? I guess maybe it never got posted on TL. I just assumed that I get all my viewing materials from TL
Thanks to Idra for all of the interviews and thank you yourself for the interview and the funny translation skit.
Edit: * Could we get a torch interview or an update on what he's up to with TSL? Last big thing I remember were rumors of him mooted to become a Code A caster. I apologize if I missed an earlier update on Torch >>
Really good interview. I liked his comments on game design, and I have to agree with him it is something Blizzard should probably reevaluate (assuming aggressive play isn't the primary intention of SC2).
