There will be a free, low quality stream. Keep in mind that our low quality stream will be better quality than GSL's high quality stream (check the OP for info).

How does the tournament go about letting a top player like myself in the tournament that is not on a team, or are players currently not on teams excluded simply because they do not have a team yet can compete/beat the best?
Just wondering, because I know there are a ton of other players in my position with no team right now that consistently are beating players that are on these teams, and they, like myself, might be excluded simply because of not being on a team? Or is it still possible to be able to enter into this league?
How do you answer criticism that only allowing top players currently on teams sort of is a "keep the rich richer" 'exclusive' type of thing? I'll respond to this in depth. This league's success is highly dependent on us being able to adhere to a broadcast schedule. We need to have stuff playing every night. What happens when we let a random guy who's not in a team into the league: what if he does poorly and drops out? What if he's late every week and delays our broadcast? This ruins the league. Having players on teams adds accountability and responsibility. If a team contracts a player to uphold some degree of professionalism, there is a much higher chance that they'll do their job. We can't just "trust" that a player not on a team will do all these things. A team can fund the player's trip to the LAN final, and pay the entry fee. You have to realize, avilo, that this is much more than about simply playing the game well. There are many other factors to consider; we are looking at all of them, and you're only looking at the game. Requiring teams is a way to make sure that we will be able to run smoothly and professionally for the duration of the event. If you're good enough to beat the players in this league, you should get picked up by a team, or qualify through the open ! Isn't that why you have a $250 bond? Correct. We want multiple levels of accountability and professionalism, and this is a way to do it. Being on a team, paying a $250 security deposit. Just out of curiosity would you guys consider letting a teamless player pay a much larger deposit (for example $2500) and view that as sufficient?
I think a bigger deposit would be a great thing ..
Also I don't see why they are worried about a team if you make top 16.
If you make top 16 you DESERVE to be there, Some players may not be able to negotiate with some of these teams, not every great player has a great personality. A lot of teams are looking for character over ability if your not going to be winning every match. So therefore a team might recruit a 5th best player with an amazing personality, instead of the third best player with a dull personality. The reason for this is simply if your not winning every match your in, you need some kind of marketability, I hope NASL takes this into account. Also, do you guys care if a team is randomly formed just for NASL purpose. Teamless guys just group together and work together, what about people in the 6th - 10th slots on teams "leaving teams"(either actually leaving teams, or "leaving" officially, but still being a part of the team... just for this? I am worried about all of these things.
Incontrol also mentions a travel stipend for making top 16, so therefore, do you actually need a team to pay for you to get there? Also, if the prize payout of 100,000 divided amongst 16 players doesn't pay for itself for when you get there, and the 500 dollars doesn't cover most of it then you obviously need to re-learn how to book a trip
If someone wants to play for this, then I don't see why a team is a necessity.

Obviously if people want to make a team just for this, more power to them

Honestly though this might not be related to nasl directly or might've been alrdy asked, but I want to hear the thought of the man who was in charge that made an impact in western esports. In my opinion, the major diff or weakness I should say... is that the teams lack the practicing pro gaming house like they have in Korea. But with enough prize pool like this, do you think there is a possibility of a team house and stuff happening? I believe the west cld only benefit from this.. I'm nt sure if this made any sense. Sorry I'm not good at English.

Ok but what constitutes a team, do you have to have an organization behind you , with sponsors? Or can you just have players throw together their own team, and fund themselves for the 250$.
Sorry if Im pressing this, but if this is possible, then why have a rule about teams at all?

While its really impressive that you aim for such high quality stream and i hope that you can deliver it without constant buffering and lags, did you consider providing lower quality stream (and vods) for people with awful internet connection or 3G (data plans)?
If already answered, could someone just PM me. Digging through 10 pages would be really hard.

"Games will be casted live and then shown to you the next day after it's gone through production."
I highly dislike this. I have no motivation to pay for a pre-recording of an event that has already happened. Why can't you just delay the stream slightly?
The format, IMO, is dumb. The feel of a pre-recorded event doesn't match that of a live event where bloopers occur, humor occurs, and overall anxiety surrounding the cheering of your favorite player. Only in live events does this feeling exist. Why should I buy a stream for an event that isn't live? Name any reputable sport that has survived in the US that is not casted live. Would anyone watch the Super Bowl from a recording and still get the feeling they do as if it were live? No.

Hey Xeris,
You mention earlier that the top 4 from the open will get a spot in the league the following season. So does that mean:
1) the bottom four of the previously league lose their spots? 2) that a team can get more than 5 players in the league if they win the open, basically earning an additional spot through attrition?

I will repost my question since I really want an answer and you let it slip while you were gone

Will a database exist where I can have acess to information on the players?

In a Q and A incontrol was doing on his stream, he said that they will be uploading games the day after (still live commentated). One problem I see with this, is that people that are there live for the event will spoil the game for everyone else. Are you going to do anything to prevent this or is it just up to the moderators being fast and deleting them? thanks

Do I have to buy a webcam to apply, or can I just make a video answering questions with text and/or audio only?
|
I apologize if this has already been asked.
Q: How much is the 'premium' service? Is it a one time fee per season or a monthly cost??
-Thank You

Is there any chance, in the future seasons of the league, that you guys could hold WCG-style-qualifiers?

Is the NASL worried at all about the amount of content they're offering conflicting with the GSL? 3 hours a night 5 days a week is a LOT. Do you think people will end up having to choose which tournament to follow/pay for since 6 hours of starcraft a day(3 GSL, 3 NASL) is way too much for your average viewer?

How will the open tourny work? will the winner compete in the season or in the playoffs? also will there be a minimum req like atleast diamond, or masters league?

3mb/s..wow, i just hope justin.tv can fix their EU problems

an actual video better be required! text/audio would be so lame. :p

Why did you choose inControl to be the face of NASL? When starting any business venture, you want a sense of professionalism and quality to your main face, as they are the person you audience immediately thinks about in conjunction with your venture. InControl is known in the community as to being a rude, condescending person in his comments, and has been quoted many times on the show SOTG, trashing other peoples endeavors. Do you think his lack of professionalism will hinder your venture?

Poker does this all the time, and it's been extremely successful.

2) We're thinking the venue will have 2,000 seats, and yes we will be having booths. The price to attend is not decided. We're going to be broadcasting every single game, unlike tournaments such as MLG that only cast 20% of the games played.
Awesome, with this HEAVY prize pool, the booths are such a good thing. Every player will enjoy that!
