Before you post, read the title of this thread slowly and out loud. |
@Xeris I've seen too many failboats in my time to not point something like that out. Glad you've done your homework though, makes me smile just a little (and then go back to being a pessimist).
Also:
Why exactly 5 x 10? I see that it fits the five man per team rule (which I totally understand the reasoning for) and that it goes wel with 15 qualifiers from the league and one from an open tournament, but other than that I feel like splitting the players up in five different groups will confuse more people than not.

"The Open Tournament: The Open Tournament is our way to give everyone a chance at getting into the league. The winner of the Open Tournament is getting a seat directly at the LAN finals. The top 4 in the Open Tournament will be given seats in the next season of the NASL. Complete information about the Open Tournament will be released at a later date. "
I know it's a bit different, but vs the cost of running a feeder league it seems like a good trade-off.

How can we deem it a success if it hasn't started yet? :p

If Korean players agreed to come over to NA to negate Lag issues, would that circumvent the 5 korean rule?
I'd heard that LAG that comes from a Korean player playing from Korea on an NA server was cited as the reason for this rule in the first place

Required team to apply, and no more then 5 people from a team. Splitting the teams up only helps those players on that team, and possibly hurts everyone else. While limiting them to 5 per team you sort of help that, but imo removing both outright would lead to a much more fair tourney overall. It is a solo tourney anyway. Other then that, I can't wait to see this big bad event in action!! A tourney I don't have to be awake for at 5 a.m. SOLD! The 5 players per team rule is absolutely necessary because of the way the NASL has decided to structure the group stage to prevent coordinated losing, or at least allegations of such behavior. I don't know the specifics of how the group stage will be run (are they available? I'd be interested to read them), but consider the following: 5 groups of 10 players each, the top 3 advance. For the purposes of this discussion, let's say that TeamLiquid has 6 players competing, and that Jinro and HuK are in the same group. The end of the group stage is approaching and Jinro is rolfstomping everyone, winning nearly every game he plays and has already guaranteed that he will win the group. HuK meanwhile, is sitting in 4th place, on the edge of qualifying for the finals. Jinro and HuK play 5 games towards the end of group play, and HuK wins all 5 very easily, despite struggling against Jinro earlier in the group stage. Here's the kicker: it wouldn't matter if Jinro lost intentionally or not (and there would be huge pressure for him to throw the games, both as a favor to his teammate and to appease his team and sponsors). There would be absolute OUTRAGE from the community, ESPECIALLY the player/team who lost his/their spot in the finals. If this kind of thing happened two or three times, it could ruin the league and drive sponsors away for good. Dealing with a few annoyed fans and teams is worth it to prevent this potential catastrophe. Despite what the NASL has said about "increasing diversity," I think that preventing this conflict of interest is the primary motivation for the 5 per team limit.
I've spoken against the 5 per team limit twice in this thread but this is a good reason for!

Will the process of purchasing premium tickets, watching VODs, watching the free stream...etc be handled soley through the NASL.tv site? Much like GOMTV's?

Question: I've looked at the nasl.tv website and this entire thread but haven't found any information on maps. Is that something that's still in consideration or do you know which maps are going to be used? If so, can you reveal that information? If not, can you generally talk about your map selection process?

Note: the quality of GSL's high quality paid stream is 650 kb/sec .
Our free stream is going to be at 800 kb/sec, our paid stream will be 3 megabit / sec. We're offering much better stream quality than any other tournament can give you!
I have to reply to this saying thank you! Always good to see the free stream not being complete crap like alot of tourney's do. Thanks for telling us its going to be excites me to know I don't have to worry about stream quality you guys rock ^_^.

Maybe at some point we can do this! But it's not on the immediate agenda.

Is there a prize for winning the open tournament? I mean if someone went through a 1000 people tournament just to be knocked out when he first qualified in his next match without winning anything would be kind of depressing.
