So, Metalopolis is a pretty good map. Almost everyone can agree with that. But deep within Metalopolis likes a dark secret so sinister that very few people know about its existence. The map is... haunted.
So most of us have probably seen something like this before. The graphics glitch in a way and the textures are all funky. But what you didn't see...
Is the FACE right below the base. It kind of looks like the Adjutant (female looking robot) from the campaign, but still. It's a face! I couldn't even play right during the game because I was still in shock.
Here is another picture of it from the 6 o'clock position. The weird thing is that the face only appeared at my base and the 6 o'clock one. The other bases did not have it. Another weird thing is that after the game, I went to watch the replay and the glitch wasn't there anymore. I even created a game on the same map and no glitch. For me at least, these texture glitches last until I restart SC2.

I think the correct term is "dress rehearsal" games

It's the adjutant! She's watching over you, don't worry
I saw somebody else post something like this during the beta, looks like some weird texture mix up. Probably some small memory leak or something not getting initialized correctly. Blizz may fix it eventually, but what's the rush? It's not like it happens often, take it as sign of good luck :D

I lolled.
I've seen some pretty weird graphics, but this is just goddamn creepy...
EDIT: oh, and wow. I was completely lost for a good 10 minutes, as my brightness of my monitor is really low, so I couldn't see it. But as i turned it up, I was introduced to this terrible scary face

if its really her than that explains my close positions on Meta in seemingly every game vs T. I think she is maphacking and telling the CC where to land
Ive had this bug in numerous different games. Textures are replaced by other textures, I think it happens when textures fails to load, so the game tries to fix it as best as it can instead of crashing.
yeah, this one's pretty creepy since it's so vague. there's a funnier version of this on blistering sands i think, where the player had all the tychus findley textures (including the face) plastered on the grounds of his base.

that'd be pretty cool holiday-theming ladder maps every year =] cmonnn blizzard

I love this idea. Marines, Queens, and Zealots get Santa hats on Christmas, Pilgrim hats on Thanksgiving, it could snow on the Winter Solstice, and rain money on Valentine's Day.
once my whole screen became the adjutant face, and some other messed up textures, my game froze and i had to reboot. i wish i took a picture with my camera.
Maybe it's an easter egg? Though considering that you need to have a faulty graphics card that would seem unlikely. It's pretty weird to see face textures caused by bugs, on maps that is.
tbh i doubt this bug has anything to do with overheating, Blizz probably just said that because they don't know what causes the bug, which is why it hasn't been fixed yet.

OMG that is some crazy shit right there... I play all my games without music except Meta just cos I need the music to make me feel less uneasy on that map!
seeing this makes me think that mabye blizzard actually cant do jack about close positions on metalopolis. There is no fighting the ghost so they just gave up trying to code it into the map. Damn you ghosts!
Something like this has happened to me once on metal, but instead of it looking like yours there where streaks of like black oil everywhere and i asked the opponent if it was weird for them too and they said no.
I haven't had any faces, usually mine just cover the map in some dark texture which makes it hard to differentiate from the fog of war then I have to alt tab to fix it.

He's watching you....
I think this whole face thing happened with alot of the maps in the beta not just 2v2 maps.. I think geysers would also show as pink in 2v2 maps which was awkward.
Seems like its portraying the skin map used to animate the 3d portraits when units are selected. The first metal one is adjutant the blistering one is for the scv and the other metal one is a medic/medivac
yeah i used to get the texture bug all the time, mostly on blistering sands, which would make it look like a earthquake/volcano hybrid released lava all over the map. was pretty badass
Happened a lot of times to me. I think it's more of an easter egg(s) rather than a glitch. I mean look at that perfect texture, it can't possibly be random. Stuff like vespene geysers and zerg structures being built have glitched textures sometimes. Those "easter eggs" are rather fun. I like them and don't think it's scary even if sometimes I get a face. It does bother me when the game start and I don't have much to do, but as the game keeps going, I have other things to focus on.
I had a grassy green texture on Blistering Sands once. I was really confused for about 60 seconds before I realized it was a texture glitch. I thought I was on a new map lol.
