Hey everyone. This is an introduction to the new YABOT (that's Yet Another Build Order Tester) Build Order Editor. This editor makes adding new builds from http://www.sc2builds.com/ to a YABOT SC2Bank file much easier than manually editing with notepad.

Adding builds can be done in one of two ways: Copy and pasting an encoded build order into the editor, or clicking a link on the sc2builds page via magnet links, which you will now find on each build order. I have created a short tutorial for the editor for your convenience!

You can download the editor at: http://www.sc2builds.com/download/yabot-editor-1.0-setup.exe

For info on YABOT itself, you can check out this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=128752

Further support for the editor can be found in this thread: http://www.sc2builds.com/yaf/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=387

Please use this thread to give thoughts, ideas, bugs or any sort of problem. Hopefully this editor will make your lives a little bit easier to use YABOT.

:::Updates:::
13th February 2011 - Found a problem in setup registry for registering the sc2build protocol. You can find the fix in this post: http://www.sc2builds.com/yaf/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=485

Thanks for this, should make it easier and less error prone for non-programmer types.

I'd like to see full parsing and validating of the string and a preview of all the steps in the build order. Also maybe replace the Update button with Undo/Redo capability (if we make a change in a build order its going to almost always be on purpose so "Update" is usually a redundant step).

Also do you have an online repository for the source code, e.g. Google Code or github?

Also looks like sc2builds.com magnet links are up but the installer didn't set up the association so Firefox doesn't understand them.

Yeah, a lot of it has been done just to get it out the door (without creating horrendous bugs, of course). So undo/redo will be on the plate at some point. Still, there's the problem of perhaps, someone is editing the encoding directly - it can't save every time you press a key stroke, so there's an update button. If you can think of a good way for this to work, I'd appreciate it!

As for parsing... definitely, once I figure out a nice regex.

I don't know if I want to release the source code at this time. Maybe, depending on where we want to go with it I guess.

It's certainly supposed to! It adds registry keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT//sc2build

Sure did, and it works just fine with Chrome, so I'll have to see what's up with Firefox.

Edit: Had to go into about:config and create a boolean named "network.protocol-handler.expose.sc2build" and set it to false

Then it allowed me to pick the application to associate and chose YabotMagnet.exe.

Not sure why Chrome didn't have any issue with it out of the box. Maybe some Firefox addon.

Well it's not actually saving until you click the save button, just invalidating the in-memory version of the data, right? You could validate either on every keystroke or the more standard way which is to validate upon the control losing focus (or "on the way out").

Yea -- that should be fun! Expresso is pretty handy for testing out regexps.

As for the encoding format itself, you probably already have seen this but in case you have not it's posted here.

Understandable, I think open source development in the SC2 community is great though, the source for both SCBuildOrder and Evolution Chamber are on Google Code. Lots of interesting magic going on there.

Yeah, I suppose. I did it the way it is in case someone accidentally ruins their bank file by updating the wrong thing or whatever, considering there's no undo/redo button. I'll think about that though.

And believe me, I love open source, but giving it away means that any possibility of commercial viability is out the door. Whether that will happen or not is irrelevant, I'd like to keep options open. Takes a lot of work to make this stuff, and I so far get nothing for it, lol.

A bunch of PAYPAL functions can give a nice boost for a good freeware.

Certainly better than nothing ...

Is anyone having problems with the magnet links? I'd really like to get to the heart of this. Perhaps my registry is wrong? Is it working straight after the install, or are you having to edit firefox to get it to work?

YABOT is a wonderful tool. As much as I'm still terrible at starcraft, it's done a lot to help me improve. Keep it up!

Hey guys. Apparently the magnet links not working on http:/www.sc2builds.com/ is entirely my fault. I've added the fix, and a new setup file that should hopefully clear up the problem. You can find more here: http://www.sc2builds.com/yaf/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=485
