The assumption that they're reaching an audience with this is suspect. The amount of viewers was what, less than 2000, half of whom stopped watching the second Day9 went off air?
I can't imagine anyone finding this show entertaining. It honestly feels like it's not directed at a specific audience but rather at some nebulous idea of what a tv show looks like.
MLG rules, i have kept up to date since they started doing halo 2. and now they are putting SC2 on and its got day[9]. WIN. the MLG weekends get reserved for me now because there is so much to watch. some of their stuff is a bit "forced" and "trying to be ESPN" but it just makes it better. my hat of to you MLG.

then again, why would MLG do something like that? they are not complete idiots, they must've done some basic research about what their customers are interested in?
but maybe I am overerestimating MLG and underestimating the maturity of console-gamers...but hell: we here want in-debth analyzis and therefore get day 9; why would the console-gaming community NOT request somebody with the insight like day 9 for THEIR stuff if they loved such analyzis too?
mlg is a cool company, and were smart enough to get day9 on their show. (which was basically a free boost in viewers)
This is where it gets confusing, considering how good the production values are. are these "hosts" some kind of family of a big shareholder or something? they were terrible. theres a reason the show has only 800 viewers. its ran badly and has joker hosts. i am not entirely rts either, i just bought sc2 3 or 4 weeks ago and i have never played rts before. i have an xbox 360, i have cod and friends who are in this crowd and i know they would dislike this joker show as much as i did. i was planning to watch the whole thing but i couldnt wait to turn it off after day9 was done.
the show isnt entirely without promise tho. the guy who ranted about medal of honor and the military was interesting and worth watching, altho it was a little too obvious that it was scripted, and it had some decent content. the ping pong part was kinda cool i guess etc

Everything has a price. It's a free broadcast for non-HD viewers.
Plus, there's no problem with giving credit to sponsors, football teams have ads all over their jerseys and many other examples... hell, even Team `Liquid is called TLAF-`Liquid which TLAF represents their sponsor.

Because they're people.
Because even giant media conglomerates spend millions of dollars on ill-conceived shows/movies that don't turn out to be good.
The content of the show is fine. The production is professional. The execution and conception is sorely lacking.
Think of any show on E!
Do people watch it for the hammy hosts and stupid puns they recite? No, they watch it because they're interested in the content that's being delivered, i.e. celebrity gossip. The delivery method is trumped by what is delivered.
Same with ESPN sports shows. People don't care about the "bro" humor and hammy trappings, they care about the sport results.

These guys knew nothing about SC2 and were absolutely aimed at a different demo-graph entirely. Like so much so that we can't help but notice how completely inappropriate they are for the typical RTS fan.
I understand things are more complicated than merely pandering to the RTS community entirely.. but if you want to include SC2 in a show like this you MUST have better informed and more appropriate hosts. With JP/Day9 so clearly involved with you guys I find little to no excuse. If this isn't worth the cost than scrap it... I'd rather MLG does nothing along these lines than limp in with a terrible show.
Did you even watch the show? They said "here's Day[9] for a preview of the SC2 tournament" and it was entirely Day[9] in a prerecorded clip. They didn't try to analyze the tournament or talk about SC2 themselves. Very similar to ESPN when a player gets into legal trouble (a situation that the hosts might not know a whole lot about), they send it over to their legal analyst and let him do his thing. I'm not sure what else you'd want them to do other than bringing Day[9] himself on to talk. While it might have been complete BS at the end when they said they were excited to see Idra and WhiteRa, they were only summarizing what Day[9] said and didn't stray away from that into unknown territory.
