Drop Halo for Quake and Guitar Hero for Beatmania and you have yourself a show.

Oh he got banned already, nevermind making a decent reply to him then.

Just don't call out people for having different opinions than yours and then not back it up with any real argument, they made a fucking post on here asking for our opinions, ofcourse we're gonna say what we think.

No need to pull out personal insults because you disagree.

It's the best way to make console players angry, just substitute anything they play with a similar game but a keyboard. I guess he's gone though, so oh well.

Not to take a side in this, but the discussion about how many views a game or event brings in is making me giggle. I brought in more than 3 million views solo, and my first time streaming broke 2,000 viewers, with an average view time of 30 minutes per person.

Shit, SC2 and Halo got nothing on me.

Shiiiiiiit.

console gaming isn't even serious, you guys have MLG thats it, we have ESL, OGN, MBC, etc. FPS in general, that's cute since halo is a joke of an FPS in the eyes of real FPS gamers that play CS and Quake.

Don't be so hypocritical man, your last post all about how MLG is doing great work for SC and how they are good company for discussing with their clients so much, and how they listen to their audience, etc.

Than here you you go ahead and just take a huge shit on them, everything starts small, MLG has succeeded where a lot of other gaming companies have failed in America. They've gotten past the initial stages and they are starting to truly expand.

I don't want to start a console war, but you can't just say console gaming isn't serious. That is such an elitist attitude, which I see a lot of in this thread. I play a lot of PC games and I also play my xbox a lot as well. They both have merits, someone saying that a PC game is better just because it's on the PC is just being an elitist prick. There are plenty of competitive games on console, a large majority of people on MLG will agree with you that halo 3 doesn't have a very high skill gap, which is true, but it's still a very competitive game because it's all about teamwork and working together and how well you can do that. The previous halo games were more individually competitive and required a lot more skill to play a top level but they are all competitive games in a sense. CS, and Quake are both super competitive titles but saying that halo is a joke to them is once again an elitist attitude because they are different style of games that share the FPS genre.

Don't know if you read what I was saying. I am saying we shouldn't shred them aimlessly for their commentators that are doing HALO, when its not MLG's fault, it is the halo communities fault.

My point is that don't say halo is gigantic because they have MLG behind them, and then take a shit on SC2's backing when all the largest gaming leagues and orgs in the world have starcraft, not halo. Check WCG, IEM (nationals and globals), and the tons of other leagues going around everywhere.

Check Live On Three, halo news is not news.

Counterstrike 1.6 news is news, as is Quake, as is Starcraft BW as well as SC2.

I'm not saying that halo is huge, because I know it isn't, it's a very niche game, but MLG has done a great job expanding and growing around pretty much only halo and now they are trying to expand to other things which will be difficult because Halo is a very different game from any of the really big competitive games.

I just get so tilted when I see so many elitist comments dumping all over console gaming because it's not nearly as developed as PC gaming, which it shouldn't be because it's far behind PC gaming, but it has it's own merits.

Also I find it funny, how people are completely disregarding the quality of hosts because they are being goofy, when one of the biggest SC2 representatives in the states is a guy who does a daily show where he acts completely goofy. It's the worst sort of a double standard.

I will echo some earlier sentiments. Show seemed a bit unfocused with a lot of fluff. Even the SC2 section felt short on substance. I really wouldn't watch this kind of content with games I don't particularly follow unless it's formatted like sports center, more focused on news and results.

I mean the segment on Halo players is fine, I don't really mind it, but it really feels like it should be structured differently.

Their goofy is not Day9's goofy. I'm sure their sense of humor is appealing to some people, but to me and quite a few others in this thread, they were the opposite of entertaining.

Day9's comedy is mixed in with his incredibly high level analysis and overall probably the most objective viewpoint of anyone streaming that I've ever seen. He has the years of experience to back up whatever he says, that's why people watch him.. If he ONLY joked, he wouldn't be so popular IMO.

The hosts on the show didn't seem to back up anything they were saying (by the way, what were they saying anyway, besides calling IdrA korean and talking about peppers and wearing costumes?)

The problem with what your doing is judging from one 30 minute show, if you watch the halo commentary and list to christ puckett he does the same thing. I will agree that the show is very unfocused and they just don't have the chance to do the same as day where he has a whole hour that's completely focused on one thing.

Let's not start this. I like Day9's humor. I can see how people would like those two guys' humor, but I don't. Trying to argue objectively over humor is like trying to argue objectively that vanilla is better than chocolate. It's personal preference. However, it seems like most people on TL prefer Day9's humor to the hosts. That's why we're complaining, because they don't seem to mesh well with many people SC2 community.

Well that's the final advice for MLG then: don't take time from your brah's console broing commentating for SC2, just give Day9 the same amount of cash for production value, glasses fixing, tshirts and pedobear drinks. We'll all be happy and praise your name.

Here's a feedback from a casual SC2 player (high platinum, a couple games a day on average). I watched almost every game at MLG Raleigh, and bought a season ticket for GSL.

I remember watching an episode of OSR during MLG Raleigh and I got the same feeling about the hosts. They seem a little fake and awkward. I can't really hold this against them though, as the only esports host I've ever seen who always seems to act natural and comfortable while also being entertaining and charismatic is djWHEAT. I think your two guys did a fine job and were completely watchable, though I can't claim to be impressed.

The only piece of content I enjoyed other than the SC2 section with Day[9] was the bit about the Medal of Honour censorship, though I haven't played a MoH game in years and don't plan to play this next one. Whether you agreed with him or not, it was obvious that your reporter really cared about what he was saying, and I respected that he took a firm stance on a controversial issue in gaming. It was a serious and interesting segment, and I was disappointed that the hosts didn't seem to have any idea how to respond, and went immediately back to their grinning, casual, 'let's hang out and play some video games, man' attitude.

My mind wandered through all the other segments, so I don't really remember what they were about (a preview of customization for some game, some game's release was postponed, some random people playing Rock Band, and did they answer some twitter questions or am I imagining that?) but obviously none of them held my interest. I intended to watch the show all the way through in case another interesting segment came on, but ended up closing it a few minutes after Day[9]'s preview of MLG DC. I really liked the editing in that preview by the way, where clips of each player showed up as he was talking about them. Very suave.

I guess I'm hinting that I would appreciate a more serious take on gaming. It doesn't have to be Starcraft, and it doesn't have to be esports. Just people taking their games seriously. I know Rock Band 3 is coming out and I know it's going to be fun. I don't need to see some random people having fun playing it. Surely there's something more engaging to be said about it.

While I don't agree with RoyR's sentiments, I agree that almost everyone posting in this thread deserves a warning. The sheer immaturity displayed in the earlier posts is an embarrassment to the merit of this community and Teamliquid.

The show clearly wasn't marketed to the high level standard that Starcraft is set to. People need to realize that acting elitist when something isn't completely 100% devoted to starcraft is a surefire way to turn people and potential viewers away from the community and is counterproductive to the cause of esports as a whole.

Protip: Treating the people dropping thousands of dollars on you're game like shit is not a good way to show your support for their involvement in the community.

Seriously? MLG has done the SC community and TL a justice in their ability to connect with our members and allow for us to ask them open questions HERE ON TEAMLIQUID and you're going to give them this much shit about a show that they do for free as a service? Then you're going to call people who have some semblance of maturity a butthurt console scrub?

These guys are giving out 7000+ a tournament for SC2, thats the biggest prize pool outside of IEM and GSL, and now you guys are going to talk like this to them?

Heads up, give constructive feedback at the very least, I'm amazed that you guys can run around here on TL talking to these employees and executives of MLG, who are targetting THEIR audience which is the MLG community. They put Day[9] on the show to give us a share, especially since Day[9] has appeal to everyone, maybe even expanding some of their MLG community into the starcraft 2 community moreso.

But are you guys SERIOUSLY going to give them shit like this post above for a service that MLG does for everyone?

Edit: Although to be fair, that RoyR guy is even worse, when he doesn't know a thing about Starcraft and talks like that.

Yeah I agree, as much as I don't like their show and find it embarrassing (for them) that they obviously know nothing about StarCraft 2 even though it is on their show, most of the people on this thread are simply being too negative and close minded. At least give some constructive criticism and show that the StarCraft 2 community can really make a contribution to MLG's community which will only benefit esports as a whole.

Anyways I'm glad that StarCraft 2 is being recognized by other communities. Maybe we can show the console community what esports is all about... because going by their show... clearly they don't know :p
