I really hope that the folks at MLG can put up with the troll and those that are feeding him to get the actual feedback they came here asking for.

Don't be so hypocritical man, your last post all about how MLG is doing great work for SC and how they are good company for discussing with their clients so much, and how they listen to their audience, etc.
Than here you you go ahead and just take a huge shit on them, everything starts small, MLG has succeeded where a lot of other gaming companies have failed in America. They've gotten past the initial stages and they are starting to truly expand.
I don't want to start a console war, but you can't just say console gaming isn't serious. That is such an elitist attitude, which I see a lot of in this thread. I play a lot of PC games and I also play my xbox a lot as well. They both have merits, someone saying that a PC game is better just because it's on the PC is just being an elitist prick. There are plenty of competitive games on console, a large majority of people on MLG will agree with you that halo 3 doesn't have a very high skill gap, which is true, but it's still a very competitive game because it's all about teamwork and working together and how well you can do that. The previous halo games were more individually competitive and required a lot more skill to play a top level but they are all competitive games in a sense. CS, and Quake are both super competitive titles but saying that halo is a joke to them is once again an elitist attitude because they are different style of games that share the FPS genre.

I just really wish that MLG would put on a well produced e-sports show closer to Live on Three than what this thing was. The more I think about "What if the Lo3 crew had the resources of MLG and that kind of production value..." the more I wish it were true. I have no problem with StarCraft only being a short bit on there, but what I definitely don't want to hear is "Oh my god bro! I can't wait for Gears of War 3, yeah!" Even if you want to talk Halo, talk about the teams. Talk about who is expected to do well there, or recent upsets. You can talk about non-SC games and get a lot of TL's attention, even console games, it's much more a matter of how.
No one here wants to listen to someone like Royr talk about any thing, even StarCraft.
Edit: Also, if Royr has actually graduated... any thing, his English teachers should be fired.
|
My stance on the show:
Good production values. Really good production values and editing, actually. Very nicely done. Commentators are excellent at going back and forth between scripted dialog like the into to Day[9]'s segment and banter.
That said, their banter was pretty annoying and not particularly entertaining and the show just didn't interest me very much. A more in-depth show with a focus on analysis would probably be much more entertaining to watch. News is cool, but it's pretty easy to get news by skimming forums or blogs. I tune in to TV shows for personalities. Day[9] is actually a great example - his segment was a brief overview of the players at MLG with a little bit of an analysis of why they're good, well-scripted and showing some (mostly) relevant footage.
Wouldn't watch the show normally, would consider watching other shows with similar production value and a different focus.
Seriously THIS IS A CASUAL GAMING SHOW! GET THAT IN YOUR HEADS! I know a lot of casual gamers, and few of them act anything like the commentators.
No one is obligated to like the show because it has a different audience. No one is obligated to praise the show because they made a tiny outreach. If they keep putting on Starcraft content like this, the Starcraft content is going to bomb. Don't you think that's useful feedback for them?
|
The guys at MLG are probably mature professionals who aren't going to be offended by things said on an internet forum, no need for the tension in this thread. I think people can learn a lot from Day9 in terms of making an entertaining show, because as someone who's been playing SC2 for only six weeks, I'm completely hooked on Day9's enthusiasm for his game, and it is him alone really that made me want to play better, he is pure gold in terms of accessing the Starcraft 2 community and gamers in general, and I hope that doesn't sound too cynical.
I'd watch segments of a show like this if it was along the lines of seeing a professional gamer do what he does best. People like seeing people excel at something, no matter what that is - I'd watch someone knit if they were the best knitter in the world.

My point is that don't say halo is gigantic because they have MLG behind them, and then take a shit on SC2's backing when all the largest gaming leagues and orgs in the world have starcraft, not halo. Check WCG, IEM (nationals and globals), and the tons of other leagues going around everywhere.
Check Live On Three, halo news is not news.
Counterstrike 1.6 news is news, as is Quake, as is Starcraft BW as well as SC2.

Im not saying anything about one game being more social than the other mate, you are. I just dont understand/support your hostile attitude. That is all.
edit: To OP: sorry for the derail. I found the show pretty enjoyable and the professional production seemed really solid. Biased as we (sc2 fanboys) are, dont take the critique too harsh

hehehe. RoyR, when your beloved halo competitions get worldwide viewership like Starcraft and Starcraft 2 does (and maybe after a few more years of maturity), come back here and make better points so people can take you seriously.

Probably over 10,000 spectators for all 3 days... You get more than 10k viewers a NIGHT watching GSL and it's on at 2-5am in the US. I know you want to argue using big numbers but you literally cannot win this. Yep, btw thats 10k viewers a night per restream, not including the other tens of thousands watching it directly through gom and thats also not including the fact that its just during a RO64 matchup, and THATS not including the fact that its 2-5 AM on the west coast....5-8 on the east On October 08 2010 08:53 Bowdy wrote:On October 08 2010 08:52 ZlaSHeR wrote:On October 08 2010 08:51 Bowdy wrote: slasher I've always loved you but that royr guy deserves any hate he gets. I don't see a problem with the community clinging to the one that delivers the most, and right now MLG is not ahead of the competition as far as SC2 is concerned. That's just my opinion, I didn't watch the OSR show, I just read royrs posts and died a little inside. Reread my edit in and my two posts since then ^_^ LOL I did that as soon as I got done posting, then I saw this post. I take it all back! I still <3 you long live QL! No arguments, no facts, no legitimate claims made, just LOL YOU SOUND LIKE SOMETHINGS OUT UR BUTT WOCKAWOCKAWOCKA SOOOO FUNNY LOL I'M BETTER THAN YOU AT EVERY GAME AND HALO IS THE BEST EVEN THO NOBODY OUTSIDE OF THE USA TAKES IT SRSLY LOLOL PS: RoyR did you know that MLG got 15k viewers to watch Halo 3 during MLG Raleigh? LOL. Considering MLG has gotten 1 million views FROM HALO livestream views from one event i think you need to get your facts straight buddy. Also how about instead of dodging all my arguments and making up facts how bout you actually discuss? Obviously my grammar and sentence structure isn't perfect, but i obviously didn't understand that i have to type perfect sentences on a video game forum.... Also where did i say ANYTHING ABOUT HALO? I talked about there intended audiences and that is it? I haven't said jack shit about anything regarding EITHER GAME. So again instead of making up facts and stereotyping how about you actually not dodge my arguement?
they've never gotten 1 million views.
You didn't make any arguments, you've been rambling. You're doing it again.
