you think they do things for free? :D because its "fun" and its "what people want to see" ?
Well, it was just "hey, let's take one hour each week to talk sc2 and stream it". How could this have turned out in "can't do it, we aren't paid". I mean it's organized by themselves, I have no idea how money could get in the picture, it just doesn't make any sense. "They do things for free", well of course, unless they consider sotg as a job, and in this case I'm not sure I want them as guests. "Sorry Anna, we won't go for diner tonight unless you give me 100$". I mean, stog was just a relaxed show where they talked about various stuff, and the publicity the hosts got is good already. Sotg made the hosts as much as the hosts made Sotg. Since when have you to get paid to do something you enjoy outside of your job. Unless these guys jobs are now to be celebrities who get paid to go into talk shows ? How absurd is that. And I'm not a guy who wants everything to be free or supported by passion, and I'm fully supportive of these guys earning a decent life, but this show WAS made by passionate people, the fact that they now need to be paid or else no show explains a lot of things imo. How could this go from "hey guys, let's reunite once every week or two weeks and talk about sc2" to this. Now I understand why the show had difficulties.
edit : if a sponsor wants to sponsor stog, then I understand that they just share the money, it's transforming a successful show into something lucrative. But the case here is very different. Here they transform a successful show into nothing because it's not lucrative enough.
I don't even think it's a big deal, this is just...disappointing.
It is the natural way of things. My girlfriend plays in a local band and loves to create and play music. She loves to play her drums on stage in front of a crowd, hear people cheer and have people watch her band preform. But along with all of that comes a ton of work. Practice twice a week, working out to stay fit enough to play an hour set, moving her drum set, worrying about drunk idiots breaking her drum set worrying about jerks stealing their equipment. She and her band have done a ton of shows for free when they started, but they rarely do them any more, even though they love music. They play less shows because of this, but free shows are not worth their time. And they never received any negative response from the people seeing the show, but the cheers of the fans do not replace the hours and hours of work.
Although not 100% analogous, SotG had a similar problem. The host were busy and could not devote 3+ hours to a weekly show, more for JP, who would stay up late ripping the MP3 so we could all download it in the morning. They couldn't do the show if anyone was traveling, because hotel internet sucked. And people complained about everything, no matter what the host did or did not do. At one point people complained about Geoff being disrespectful to Artosis, both who have been friends since BW. And the list goes on.
The show was successful, but the hosts need to weigh it against other responsabilities, girlfriends/wives/family and friends. As someone with a full time job, I barely have time to watch SotG.
I'm actually glad Incontrol is not on the show for the moment. It's boring to ear people think this 4-5 man show is only existing because of one member. Not only Incontrol doesn't want to do the show anymore, Incontrol is the most vocal, arguably the most funny, but also one of the least informative about the game out of most of people we saw on the show. Not only Incontrol doesn't want to do the show anymore, but if it can live without him, then it's a new life for SotG.
Well that's for the first 5 shows, then Incontrol will come back.
Also making an european and an american is a great idea.

well they did it for free for a long time...
at the start it was just 4 friends talking shit that related to sc2. they did it for free, and had a lot of fun
That was before the show got huge. People were more accepting back then, less assholes wanted to talk shit about everything. Inc said in his post that doing the show takes a toll on him. It's much worse recently than it was in the past. You can't expect someone to do something for free that harms them, and puts them at constant risk of jeopardizing their other jobs. In this sense I think Inc does deserve the most, easily. He contributes most to the entertainment value of the show, he puts himself out there the most, and he risks the most by doing so. Someone in that position needs to be compensated somehow.
Let me direct you to day9 and his BW dailies/early sc2 ones. Hell, he got seriously sick a few times because of it, but did he stop because he wasn't receiving enough ad revenue/donations?
You dont start "deserving" compensation until you can say "The hell with that, I dont need that money", not out of spite but out of love for what you're doing. If you need money then its just another job for you.
I don't see the similarity. The scene was way smaller and he wasn't risking employment elsewhere to do his videos. If guys slip up these days there's going to be a internet lynch mob hell bent on seeing them fired from their team/job. Is Day9 still putting out his content for free or even close to it? This comparison is absurd in many more ways. Also, your second paragraph is inane drivel.

Both SoTG and ITG turned into mainly a recap of recent tournaments, and about "how we can grow ESPORTS."
Looking forward to thursday!
SoTG was turning a bit too much into ITG to be honest. If nothing else they might be able to pull SoTG back to what it originally was. Also love the new cast, also sad to hear Incontrol not attending as a regular anymore.

Thanks! <3
im crushed.
Oh well, inc is a super busy guy, will be watching lots of mcsl
I may sound silly, or white knighting or something.....but it seems like for the last 30 or so pages people have been posting the same things. Either are anti SOTG stuff, or pro SOTG stuff, and then crushing other peoples ideas o.O
So fucking sad that incontrol isn't going to be on, but godammnit do I understand but god damnit he's a huge reason why i got into watching it....Damnit all damnit all damnit!

I feel like it's actually been that way for approximately the last 1500 pages.

This. When day9 was doing his show he was still in college for almost the entirety of it, and after he graduated, if you remember--you know that time when you start actually needing real fucking money?--he bumped out the subscription service etc.
If you don't think Day9 masterfully crafted where he is today and it all happened out of coincidence you're horribly mistaken. Day9 put a shit ton of work into where he is now, he essentially owns his own company.
It's very, very obvious that the people who have this opinion that...once you put money into the equation you can no longer love it, have never--ever--been paid to do something they love. You don't lose passion for getting paid to do what you love, and it's not wrong to want to be paid to do it. It's as if people think it means less to them when they're getting paid to do it.
Put this in comparison with casters. Do you think Artosis and Tasteless hate their jobs? Are you fucking kidding me? Do they not care about eSports because they're getting paid to do it now--they started as dudes just commentating because they liked it, just like JP and crew started as dudes doing a show because they liked it, but when it becomes popular enough to actually support them it's somehow diminished?
