For the vast majority of the people though the latter is obv way more interesting. But I dont get why people are arguing that much. Do you really need to hear from taylor day9 etc how awesome dreamhack was ?

I would say that your whole debate has nothing to do with Sotg and you should create your own thread.

He's actually 1 of the players surviving solely on these things that he seems to dislike. pretty funny perspective if nothing else. ![]()

It is like a plastic surgery/ gynecologist doctor is telling me not to look at porn as a sexual entertaining activity but see it as a biology study and that porn should be rated by the quality of the body of the subjects. ![]()

His statement were from a viewers perspective- what he likes to watch. But yeah, if all viewers shared his preferences, he'd be gone from the competitive scene. But it's probably possible for a farmer to not like potatoes. Also, keep in mind that (I assume) he still strives to become one of the best performers (skillwise).

I like SC2 for it's gameplay just like I like BW for it's gameplay. If players are playing worse than the games I see on forGG/Bomber/Vines stream, I don't find it any better simply because someone's winning money for those games. I followed Naniwa and Hyun this Dreamhack, and I was sorely disappointed by those games. I watch on, and Polt didn't seem too in form even as he got to the finals. In short, Dreamhack was boring. Thorzain winning Dreamhack is only a story because he's a white guy. There's nothing really interesting or amazing about his run into the tournament. He beat a bunch of players he's proven himself a lot better than in the past, had a decent series with Monster, a code B player whose sole achievement his performance in this tournament, and beat Polt who recently got kicked out of code A and reseeded in, only to get 0-2'd. Thorzain didn't really have any major upsets. He played well, and put up a performance he wouldn't be disappointed in himself in. That's no story, that's a good white guy on a good day. There was no "exotic Korean talent" brought over. In fact, the talent everyone had their eyes on got eliminated in group stages because he hadn't practiced against Zerg. Apart from Genius, the falkiest flake in the world, Naniwa was the only code S level player. A Swedish player winning in his home country was nice for the in-house viewers. It was nice because it was televised in Sweden. It must have been pleasant for Swedes and grown e-Sports there, I guess (as an American I couldn't care less whether IdrA won MLG though). However, it was so inferior to the games played at GSTL Finals/IPL4/Winter Championships that I wish I had bought the ticket for Spring Arena.

Someone who will only watch the big, spectacle of a finals with their hometown team or someone who would be thrilled to watch Barcelona and Inter play on a highschool football field with 20 spectators in the bleachers? Nony is unarguably more of an sc2 fan than those who watch tournaments just for the production value. He is a fan of sc2, you are a fan what goes on around sc2. See the difference? You don't get it, do you? There are no "bigger" fans, there are just fans with different priorities or different preferences for different aspects of the SC2. If you want to talk abou the "bigness" of a fan, it would arguably be measured by level of entusiasm, not which aspects entuses you. Assuming your preferences are the one true faith that defines a "true" fan makes you look a bit arrogant at best. Also: Prefacing your opinion with "unarguably" doesn't make it so.

Light shows, energetic hosts and big crowds are not "aspects" of sc2. "I am a fan of sc2". What in the world can we take this to mean? As far as I know sc2 is a game made by Blizzard entertainment. I'm pretty sure Starcraft isn't well dressed hosts, nor an enthusiastic crowd, nor good storylines. Funny huh? All these are things that happen around sc2, but they are not sc2. If you enjoy these things more than watching/playing sc2 itself you'd do better to call yourself a fan of the sc2 scene, or esports, or whatever you may please really. Analytically a "fan of starcraft 2" is just that - a fan of a game, not of glitz and hype.
