Skype ruined the overlay at least 5 times per episode, but this MLGed version of SotG just seems too fake. It feels as if they issued a gag order about certain topics and they want to make it into a "standard"-show. Don't know. That's not what made this show great and that strategy talk might be better off staying in in WHEAT's Inside the Game, as there are progamers of each race talking, not 3 toss and Day9 always suggesting the weird ones :-P I live in Europe and until now always watched the show live. Not sure if it is worth it anymore I kinda agree, the best thing about SotG was the fact that nobody held any punches and just said whatever they wanted and the important topics of that week/fortnight. Now it always feels like they're afraid of treading on other peoples toes. Some things don't even get mentioned on it or are quickly brushed aside. And then there's MLG that gets talked about for nearly half the show, every single week. I mean i understand that they're going to want them to talk about it but it just feels too much. I swear we go over the pools every week. -___-.
I don't think its MLG's fault that people won't just say outlandish things about other people/organizations. The scene is so much bigger than when the podcast started, almost everyone on the podcast is sponsored like crazy. iNcontrol and JP probably have more corporate names behind their back so they have to take more precautions than most people.
Its just one of the downsides of having a broader audience and more sponsorships.
Also, MLG's are actually pretty close to one another, so they'll talk about it a lot just due to the fact that you can easily have a pre-MLG show to a post-MLG show, and that is set for two weeks. Then, you could have another quick post-MLG show, and then its just one gap week before the next pre-MLG show. Just wait until 2012 when MLG wants to do events almost every week... MLG also gets sooo much feedback and ideas from this show, it's a great resource for them as well. I think after the BW discussion about why its so popular in South Korea, they at least have a few ideas for next year.
The OSL show was really nice though. I think its understandable someone like JP who hasn't been into BW to sort of sit quietly and hesitantly during BW conversation. He made a decent attempt to figure out why it was so awesome. It would be awesome if they actually had some BW coverage, because it looks like a lot of them still follow the scene! Ahh one can dream.

I LOVE this notion that elitist BW players/fans have about SC2 fans never having watched or "understood" the Brood War scene. I might not of played anywhere near the highest level, but that doesn't mean I never watched or followed any of the tournaments or players in the past years.

I think its frankly cause JP doesn't understand the complexities of the game because hes a kind of a noob at starcraft, which is kind of a travesty. If your going to spend so much time with starcraft, at least try to play it at a high level, its not that hard to get into at least diamond. Isn't he masters? last time i heard he was like gold or something :/ maybe I'm wrong, it was just a guess
He is masters and you are wrong. It would have only taken you like 10 seconds to watch his stream to know this, but clearly that was to much time for you. I get so tired of the baseless claims people on TL. There is something enraging when people call others scrubs based on no information at all.
Strategy is something that can be talked about, but it can get bogged down and he has other things to talk about.

Personally, I love the show.
I've recently started playing SC2 (about a month or so now) so I'm not really that good, nor do I understand the game fully, but I really do enjoy the show. It does at some points feel as if they're holding back on a few opinions and that they're sticking to some subjects, but that is completely understandable.
The fact that the the show is pretty much sponsored by MLG (Not directly sponsored, but I do believe that most of the editing, recording and uploading is done in the MLG studio) means that pretty much whatever they're saying can potentially affect MLG as an organisation, thus, they must maintain a certain level of professionalism.
Just my little 2 cents, I might be wrong. Anyways, love the show and can't wait for the VoD.
Cheers.

I think he was just fiddling with it whenever he wasn't talking, which makes sense given that the only other option would be him just sitting on his couch doing nothing. (Which looks even worse.)

This sums up my attitude/ predicament exactly.... many of us played SC and BW at launch but didn't have the friends/ time/ wherewithal to get involved in the scene hardcore. that doesn't make us any less of fans... more spectators rather than competitors.....

It's not just one troll though. I come across such "elitist" BW fans on Teamliquid, Reddit and youtube every single day. When there's a discussion about Brood War, several people will inevitably start bashing sc2 and especially its fans, out of the blue and completely unprovoked. I've almost completely stopped reading the BW section of TL because people have become so intolerant. Now I really don't want to start a BW vs SC2 war here too. Just wanted to say that JP really is on to something. There is a problem out there.

Even still, 1/10th (probably more like one in a hundred) have watched more than a few games, maybe even recognize a couple players and teams.
Even still, let's not generalize on both parties!

It doesn't leave a good impression when people start posting "LOL BW GOING TO DIE! FLASH TO SC2 PL0X!" or the non-trolls give smug subtle variations of that shit.
And honestly, most people don't really mention SC2. It's extremely tame compared to other sections of the forum.

(Or at the very least don't take anything you read there to heart) You've stopped reading the bw section? What? No, you don't come the bw section and talk about sc2 (if you do, yes, expect intolerance). Lucky, I pretty much never see sc2 being discussed in the bw section. We don't come to the bw section to discuss sc2 man. Yes, there are exception, but luckily TL has great moderators + report function, which can keep it clean.

i have to agree with xsebt here. im active in both forums and the bw section rarely talks about sc2...and if you do expect to get hate comments.

are you new to the internet? this sort of elitism exists through all of videogames. it's not specific to brood war or starcraft. it's just the same "old don't like the new" attitude people always have. it's not a legitimate problem for sc2 to really address because it's so insignificant and EVERYWHERE.
