Hey all,
Ive noticed a lot lately in first person VODs that high level players don't seem to shift-click their SVCs back to minerals after ordering the construction of a building, yet the SCVs go back to mining automatically anyway when they are done.
So I'm wondering... is there some kind of button for "return to mining" or something that you can shift-click at the end of the work queue so you dont have to go back where the minerals are and shift-click on them directly?
There is seemingly some kind of trick or technique at work here that I am not aware of, and it seems to be quite useful and time saving - so please enlighten me

You don't have to shift-click, you can actually just right click when they are building and it acts like a shift-click.

or they might be doing it so fast that you don't notice it!

hmm that interresting to know, but thats not what im observing though. I have seen many cases where a building is put down and the screen never goes back to have the minerals in view, yet the SCV goes back when its done anyway. Thats why I suspected that there is some kind of hotkey that relieves you from having to switch your view back to your base as otherwise it shouldnt be possible to do if you have to click on the minerals.

If they're carrying minerals you can press shift-c to queue return cargo. Could it be that?

No there is no magic button. You gotta click the mineral.

well clicks I could easily miss from a fast player, but as I said I think i have seen several instances where the screen was kept far away from the minerals all the time from before the building started until it was done. Of course I could just be missing something but I wanted to ask in case I was missing out on something so useful.
If noone on team liquid knows about something like this then I will have to conclude that I have just been missing things

If the SCV or Probe has a mineral on them when they go build, you can simply press C to return all minerals, then they will go back to mining. (think you can do that with protoss aswell, not a protoss player.)

It could be that you have a 4:3 or 16:10 monitor, and the replay was played on 16:10 or 16: 9.

If the SCV is holding minerals or gas, you can hit "C" for "return cargo", which will send them back to mining their respective resource.
Not sure if that's what it was, but it's really the only other thing I can think of.

Ah - possibly. Does that command just leave them hanging by the CC after they have returned though, or do they automine afterwards? if they do, then I guess all you have to do is pick up SVCs that have minerals in hand in order to save time. I never thought about that at all so I havent tried to notice that.
I will have to test that.

If it has minerals on it, you can just press 'c' and it will return to the nexus/cc/hatch with its payload. This also works great for sending the 3 workers onto gas, you just select 3 random workers, right lcick on gas, press c, and they all return. Works real well if you select the 3 closest to the geyser and make new mining pairs. The player could be using the "screen save" feature, control f8 f9 f10 etc, then just pressing f8 and then clicking on the minerals. Or using the mouse3 scroll feature.

In the case you've given a mineral-laden SCV a shift+c command, it will continue to mine after having returned it's minerals, and after completing its current command.

Very cool to know. I will try to notice if this is a technique these strong players spesificlaly use to save micro time next time I observe this
