You have to fucking give them your real name that is displayed all the time on streams and stuff and every random person you want to play custom games with needs your email adress. On top of that bnet connects to facebook all by itself if you use the same email adress, so everyone knows that you have 5 wins with zerg. What? You want to add someone by his nickname? Are you crazy? There are boundaries, man. Except if you play with him on the ladder ot happen to be thrown in the same division, than of course you can add him. It seems like Blizzard's goal is to get people to spam games vs. random people and fap to the achievements.
I really hope iCCup can get it to work with sc2.

Sucks that there wont be any chat channels, and that interview confirmed it. He did however mention that there will be clan support and GROUP support. Group support meaning we can make groups for tournaments etc? Hopefully... that wont make it too bad...

Bnet 2.0 is supposed to be Steam. Steam does not have chat rooms, it has personal pages, groups and friends lists. Hence, neither does Bnet 2.0. I think it's as simple as that.
Unfortunately, Bnet 2.0 is not a handy application that runs in the background and serves many purposes like Steam, it's a clunkier part of the SC2 main interface with a small website. Theoretically, a groups functionality that allows you to be a member of multiple groups (like Steam) would allow for the same kind of functionality... So, that's what I'm waiting for.
Whoever said that chat channels is the RTS equivalent of a dedicated server in an FPS is right, and I never thought of it that way. Good point.

Steam has group chat rooms. I doubt the outcry would be remotely as big if Bnet 0.2 had those. And multiple groups alone wouldn't solve anything as long as the party/group size is restricted to 5.

I also used to have a channel on SC1 where i used to meet all my irl frineds and friends from clan... Now with Battlenet 2.0 i feel so isolated. The interface seems to be designed for a single player game... The main screen of Battle.net 2.0 seems so empty, you can just look at a picture of some guy smoking a cigare... Even it's still beta, i'm already bored of that screen

Rofl @ the poll. Blizzard monopoly sure know what they are doing.

I think you're not understanding that the absence of channel is a decision by blizzard. On every topic since the "inteview of the shame" I read things like "omg blizzard !!What have you done? We want channel of course that's one of the main feature of bnet 1.0" etc etc.
Don't you think Blizzard knows that? This is clearly a stategic decision by Blizzard.
The channels won't change the number of copies they will sell:
-"Starcraft fans" and "hardcore gamers" will buy the game no matter what.. (50% of players are lying on one of the recents polls).
-Casual players and WoW players just won't be aware of the absence of channels.
So, if their decision won't make more money directly with Starcraft2 copies, I guess the money comes from somewhere else.
Maybe they want to keep WoW players in their community of players on WoW. They plan making some games on WoW channels, they play, then they come back on WoW. They don't make friends on sc2, they don't even think about leaving WoW for sc2.
So i guess we won't have channels not matter how we whine. Don't trust Blizzard employes making fools on itw "channels ? do you really want these?".

I for one is sure not buying such a game without basic functionalities. I was planning on buying a new computer to play sc2 smoothly, but now I guess I can throw all those plans out the window until they fucking change their policy of pretending to listen to the community or until a private server like iccup is created.
'Do you really want chat rooms?'
"NO OF COURSE NOT, WE ONLY ASK ABOUT THEM IN EVERY SINGLE INTERVIEW BECAUSE WE CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT CHAT ROOMS"
arrgh
/end rant
Edit: I think I might download a hacked version though just to play the campaign and shove it up blizzard's ass.

Bnet 2.0 may be supposed to be Steam. The problem is, bnet 2.0 also only shows map lists, while steam shows servers with players and whatnot and as TF2 you arent forced on a matchmaking system. Also, the steam community has tons of channels/groups that you can join. Ow and also, not everything goes through steam, as you can still play at some occassions when steam goes down (as you only get kicked if your account cant be verified, if I recall correctly) and you connect directly to a (dedicated) server, instead of connecting to a steam server to play a game. Ow and also, you arent limited to the maps that blizzard "allows" on their map list and you can join any server you like anywhere in the world. So of course nobody cries that TF2 or other Steam apps doesnt have a chat room when you load it up, because all the other stuff that accounts for good community is there.

I started to have delusions that this was yet another Blizzard joke and when we install the retail all will be as it once have been. Then forums slap me awake.

Seriously, who the hell voted yes?
speak up and get flamed to hell right NOW

They say that they make that division ladder to make someone not feel anonymous. But how can he interact with others when theres little occasion to speak to anyone?

Jesus 2000 say no and only 200 say yes who are the people blizzard thinks they are pleasing? As a loyal Blizzard fan and Blizzard apologist, I would say BNet 2.0 is shaping up to be a giant sack of dung- the only addition I like is the Blizzard-game-wide instant messenger client you can use to talk to your friends.
I'm still really excited about SC2, though.

servers have communities, nuff said

Completely agree.
It's the community that keeps the game alive. Blizzard is trying to burn down the community that kept Starcraft alive for all these years.
