Naw, lulz cant be killed. Infact we should all name ourselves THE EXACT same as everyone else. Namely: Esports and everyone should be with us on it. BECAUSE ITS BETA and since there are no chat channels your "spechul sc2 originality name" name wont matter anyhow.. ;D

These people are naming themselves "ESPORTS" to protest against:
- Lack of Chat Channels ... and we just announced that Chat Channels are going to be in the game a few months after release.
- No Cross-region play ... and we just announced that cross-region play is definitely in our plans.
- No Unique ID ... And we just announced that every combination of nickname + 3 digit code will be unique and you will be able to add friends by using this combination.
- You need to give out your email address ... Which is not the case anymore, as adding Nickname.007 will be enough.
I can understand the reasons behind such initiative, but I don't think that they chose the best method to explain their concerns, they will just end up sharing the same nickname with a different 3 digit code. I don't see how this will contribute to voice their concerns, let alone solve them.
We listen to the community, we don't listen to... flocks of nicknames. We need useful feedback, opinions, suggestions, concerns, questions and so on, ending up with hundreds of people sharing part of their identifier (aka only the nickname part) is not going to help at all. You all are more than welcome to post in these forums and share your concerns, I believe that we just addressed the main concerns that were brought up on these boards and we would like your feedback based on what we disclosed today.
This is the only way we're going to make Battle.net 2.0 better. The post is much appreciated. Can you provide an additional piece of info on the 3-digit identifiers: is the identifier number selected by the player, or automatically assigned? i.e. I'm the first to create the name CheezDip so I am CheezDip.001? The number will be automatically generated. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to see this code everywhere, but only on certain screens. (i.e. it won't get in the way and it won't ruin the "look" of your nickname, don't worry! ) http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25399622869&sid=3000&pageNo=3#43 Fun fact: This initiative was started BEFORE they announced all of these. Honestly, Zhydaris makes himself look stupid here. I am pretty sure that 500-1000 people named ESPORTS are recognized more than 500 random posts on the bnet forums asking for this and that. nono Zhydaris is responding to someone warning Zhydaris that in Beta Phase 2 there will be swarms of ESPORTS names in protest of bnet issues, he's not talking about what people did before

Hmm ok guess I missed part of the context

There will probably be letters.

As other people have mentioned, the ESPORTS initiative started before they proposed all of these changes. Zhydaris = EPIC Fail, and I hope other Blizzard staff aren't so blind.
|
The idea of everyone naming themselves the same thing just seems juvenile to me. It doesn't matter when the "initiative" started. Zhydaris is right when he says Blizzard listens to real feedback, not trivial name games. We all want Starcraft 2 to be awesome (even Blizzard!), so why hinder your own experience and that of others by naming yourself the same thing as someone else?
|
probably, right. like 20 years ago, "no one would need more than two digits to represent the year"
it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it gave an error trying to make more than 1000 of the same name. even in spite of the advance warning.

Blizzard hasn't changed anything. They've been given tons of feedback on many issues including identifiers and now they want to do something as silly as this. They simply aren't extracting/processing the good feedback from the bad. Then again there's a ton of trash out there. That's why Blizzard needs to hire good researchers so they can filter the seasoned responses from the bad. That way they wouldn't run into so many problems.
I think it would be outrageous to have 999 players pick the same nick. It goes to show you that we're playing a game of broken telephone with them. Either way, it's more of a running joke than anything else so take it with a grain of salt.

so many people complain the ladder system nulifies any self being in a world of many. at least our own name would be cool if we didnt have to share it with 20 other people. so even tho we'd be in a sea of never ending ladder advancements we would still have some feeling we worth something >>
The name i want is too long. been using it since the start of all my aliases. lets qq we have to have short names?

So they realised we REALLY want chatchannels? And they are going to implement almost all the addressed features? Wow, if this is true this sure makes this thread redundant.

Oh my god.
This thread is so pathetic.
Don't you guys have anything else to do besides making useless plan to show your "rage" against something that will be fixed withing the next months ?
So sad that Blizzard has to deal with crybabies "fans" like you guys.

afaik when we made this the last post i read by blizz was "we have no plans on making cross region play at this time" i have NO idea when they announced all this, if they had, this wouldve never happened.
Anyone got a link to this announcement and when it actually happened?
And we had constructive posts and all that, it was only VERY recently that we made all these nicks as they even took away the identifiers.
And clearly they do listen to floods of nicknames because that post he wrote was the most explaining post ive seen by blizzard in a while

I am SO in! I hope we can get enough people to do this!! Tell your friends!!

I wish Frank Pearce apologised for his bullshit interview. Great way to stir up thousands of Blizzard's fans, what an awesome troll he was.
I'm just glad Blizzard's actually listening to the Australian community in that we don't want to be region locked with SEA. Also, I think I remember reading a blue post about region locking being removed 'a few months' after release.

Just out of curiosity, how does whispering work with the lack of unique names? I played the beta but never had to message anyone while I was ingame and they weren't.
So for example:
/w Chill Hey what's up?
How would that work if there are 50 different Chills? Would I need to use something like:
/w Chill.946 Hi
|
I don't even mind doing this just for fun in phase 2, as opposed to in protest. It was hilarious to see people go "OMG YOU AGAIN!?!?!" on my first game of the night or to randomly play another ESPORTS and just laugh.
That being said, I would like it if Blizzard postponed release until these (basic) features were implemented to prove they are the same Blizzard.

Oh yuck I liked the name + identifier more. Unless I get something awesome like Stormsinjuly.420

There are various ways to do that, and the more creative ones have a better chance of being listened to. This wasn't necessarily the most creative way to complain, but certainly better than 500 random just-another-guy-complaining-about-something posts in the battle.net forums. I am pretty sure that quite a few Blizzard employees have actually heard about and remember this ESPORTS thing. I doubt that anyone remembers X's post about Y on the bnet forums.

You have to add someone to your friends list first. Then you double click them from your friends list to open a private chat window and enter your message there.
Yeah, it's awkward. I don't want to have to friend my enemies just to talk back to them.
