Went to place 2v2 random today, and lost a game because my minimap went completely black at the beginning of the game. I couldn't see any units, terrain, minerals, colors or anything--just a black square. (got cannon pushed in a corner too.. couldn't scout it because I couldn't see)
Anyway, what causes this? I've checked out a few posts on blizz forums and it seems this is a known problem associated occasionally with replays from older patches, but apparently it's now happening on occasion in games.
If you know what causes this, or have experienced it, please share what you think might be the problem.
I didn't alt tab, and as far as I know I didn't hit anything out of the ordinary, and the minimap was completely disabled independent of anything i clicked on the map or any option I could find. Only a relog fixed the problem it seemed. It hasn't come back, but I don't want to keep losing random games from some phantom error like this.

edit: I just played a 2v2 with my friend and my keyboard was completely non-functioning for the entire game. I couldn't use any hotkeys or type... after the game the chat worked fine, and I could alt tab and talk on AIM..... wtf? Has this happened to anyone?
I didn't play a UMS game in that instance of SC2 and I also didn't access the replay control...

It always happens to me when I load a replay (REAL pain in the ass to digest information), but I haven't had it happen in an actual game...yet.

Reinstalling the game seems to fix the problem.
Don't know what can cause it, I do suspect custom maps, though.
It might be possible that some files get corrupted by those custom games.

I have played several custom games lately, and they always crash at the end of the game, and the exit button doesn't work ( have to load it up from the menu)
I wonder if this has something to do with it.

happened to me once in a game, always have this problem with replays.

From my observation it is triggered by opening replays section on Bnet2.0. From that moment every game played or watched will have blank minimap. Restarting SC2 solves the problem.
I have tried moving all the replays away from the replay folder. When the folder was clear the minimap problem did not occur. However after opening the replay section which contained only one replay the problem occured again. Therefore the problem isn't caused by some old or custom map replay, but by any replay in the folder.

hm I have a friend who gets it randomly but I haven't had it once yet luckily and hope it stays that way.
I would say make sure your graphics cards drivers are updated otherwise i got no suggestions.

this happened to me once in a play obs game, we restarted and it was gone.
Now it happens 100% of the time when I watch replays T_T (or at least 100% of the time to certain reps). And the reps are of current patch, they are actually from this time when I first got the bug in a real game.

Hmm, I did click the replay panel before loading the game where it went black. This seems like a likely culprit. I'll stay away from game replays for hte time being while I am gaming.

I get the black minimap on all my replays post patch 13. Watching the replays via SC2Allin1 seems to fix the minimap issue, so i'm just going to watch all my replays through that program until they fix the problem.

I have yet to play or DL any custom map and I have this issue (the problem with replays, in game havent had the problem tho).

Happened to me a few matches, luckily it was 3v3 so my friends had to do all attacking. But then a few games later the problem dissapeared without me changing anything. So maybe its better just to hope it gets better if you dont want to reinstall it all.

I noticed when I load a replay by just dragging the file on the SC2 icon, the minimap isn't black anymore. Don't know about in-game though, quite scary.

Same for me. I think it's because we are not online. And it might be something with the server itself.

You don't need to use a loader - just right click on your replay and choose Open With..., and then choose your SC2.exe.
If you set them to always open using that .exe then you can just double click on the replays after that 
It's true tho, I've had this black minimap error in all replays and a couple of games since the last patch. Staying away from the replays screen in BNet seems to do the trick (haven't had it occur since).

i'll try your trick. I hope Blizzard has been notified of that.
