One of my favourite maps from SC1 needed to be remade for SC2 so I put several hours into this today making it beautiful. Lemme know what you all think! Here's a million screenshots:

Just a quick question - do you think I should put building blockers in the middle of the map and where all the unbuildable terrain was in the original? I only just literally thought about this now but it might matter to the purists.

Wow, that looks great! Really professional map making (albeit copying) already is seriously good to see. BW maps didn't evolve to the current quality of today for 6-7 years at least.

Should get blizzard to put this in instead of desert oasis

The borders look okay to me. The blue line is the limit for unit/building movement, the yellow one is the camera limit.

Yeah those screenshots are before I fixed a few things but they were only functional, not cosmetic so I didn't wanna retake them :p

Thanks for all the positive feedback! I want to do Destination but I don't quite like the non-belshir tilesets because I loove trees and foliage I'll see which other maps I feel inspired to do; I nearly made this on Char with lava but I thought better to stick to the original look.

I'm not familiar with this map, but it is BEAUTIFUL. I've gotta say that the trees and foliage are REALLY what make the Jungle tileset.

One question: You say that up to the blue boundary players can mine and move, but I think it would be important to be able to build in that area as well? What do you think?

Just to clarify I've extended the borders already from those screenshots; I found that when I tested it I couldn't see most of the stuff I had put outside the map so I just extended the borders (though at the sacrifice of the exact dimensions and specifications of the original map; that's something for you guys to decide whether or not it should be that way)

As to what you can do up to the blue border- you can move, mine, place buildings, etc. Just use the placement grid to view permissions.

Feel free to open the map in the editor and pick it apart for flaws so I can make it as robust as possible.

The trees are doodads but the foliage is made with the foliage tool (and painstaking placement of little boxes :p) but unfortunately doesn't show up in low quality which sucks because I play on my laptop so I can't even see the foliage I make!

Hmm, I considered which of the expos I should make gold but wasn't sure. From what I saw of pro play of this the middle expos were the hardest to hold and should therefore be gold. In PvZ I would frequently see players take the bottom right immediately because you can block that little choke with one pylon (I made sure to keep that the same in this remake) and then storm anything that comes in the ramp, so to make that gold would make it the obvious third, whereas by making the two bottom right ones normal either are viable.

but really, good use of trees and doodads.

edit: also just a thought (and this is for other mapmakers as well): obv sc1 maps are going to play differently on sc2. but gold min patches also kinda dictate where action or expos would go. have there been any thought in putting just one or two gold patches across the various expos instead?

I tried to tuck the second geysers in whereever possible, I wanted to make the backdoor the right size and I found one of the geysers was getting in the way so I just pushed it back a little bit. It's still useable.

Best looking map I've seen yet. Amazing use of detail, definitely a prime example of how to make a map not only functional, but beautiful to look at. Good map choice too, Jaedong/Fantasy and Stork's OSL are going to instantly pop into my mind when/if I play this

Thanks for the nice comments. Is there any good website where I could submit this that it could get a decent amount of exposure? I'd love to see some games played on my map.

Other than that, I think I'll start working on another map sometime soon; I'll pick based on which maps I think are pretty and which ones I can make look good, rather than what's the most popular.

I have a feeling that this map wont be nearly as fun with high ground advantage gone.

Have you considered littering the high ground with lots of towers or something?

I personally hope that before the launch of SC2 they come up with a high ground advantage feature. I would leave the map as it is.

I loved the intense games on this map, especially with how the natural is setup.

edit: If the blue line is really the movement boundary, then I think it needs to be extended, there are sizeable pieces of land that you should be able to go to, but can't. Still awesome map though.

I'd love to see tournaments and leagues implementing maps like this. Sure, it isn't thoroughly tested yet, but this and many others sure beat the default Blizzard maps most tournaments are using.

Alright, I just can't seem to leave this map alone- I've been tweaking and fiddling some more and decided to extend the map (but not playable/camera areas) 8 squares in the west, north and east direction. The reason being that whenever you scroll to the left, top or right eges you'd see an ugly black line where the map obviously ends. Now that I've extended it though, it looks just like the map terrain continues onwards organically. Much nicer!

I'm reuploading with the new version now so everybody purge the old one from your hard drives.

It's a small cosmetic change but I think I can finally call this one complete.

Btw, valug, if you go to File->Preferences you can change the graphics options for your Galaxy Editor which has a huge impact on how maps look to you.

Thanks, I did not know that. The foliage was missing because I'm silly, but I was able to boost the editor quality up to Ultra!

I can't wait for publishing!! What do you guys think of Moonglaive? Any suggestions for if it needs gold/watch towers? Personally I think it might be better without any of that new fangled stuff

great job bro! my two cents about Chupung-Ryeong: isnt that cliff above bottom right's spawn kind of scary? can you make it a space of water like old sc1 map?

You mean the expansion in bottom right? Any sort of inconsistent cliffs, that would allow tank drops not allowed on the original are either outside of map bounds or covered in pathing blockers/trees. thought of that already

Bumping this thread if that's ok.

Now that it's phase2 of beta I was wondering if we could get this map published. I know that there are currently some issues getting custom maps published on bnet, but I was really hoping to play this map as it has been my favorite!

I don't know enough about the Map Editor to get the publishing system to work.

Many thanks to the OP for porting this map and doing a wonderful job!

Right before phase 1 ended, I saw a stream where the commentators noticed that you can mine the gold minerals (at least on the right hand side) from the cliff immediately to the left of them. Have you already taken care of that?

first. this map gives any high-range unit a big advantage
- colossi, tanks will dominate the midgame. (disadvantage zerg)


second.
- you really need a different name for this map. sounds like chung ying jung

First off, this is an SC1 remake, so changing the name is not a viable choice. Second, I disagree about the disadvantage for Zerg. A 1 base muta would rape on this map.

I'm excited that the TL community is happy to talk about this map (I did bump it from 2months..)

The map itself is excellent, and has tons of opportunities for all sorts of builds and playstyles aswell as some good harass.

What I'm most concerned about is getting this map up on the B.Net phase 2 US servers, and I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help me achieve this

I'm certain I did deal with this, and also I double checked about creep ranges meeting at the ramp (another concern voiced on the stream) and I'm uploading it to the US servers now; I'll have to see if I can borrow a friend's account to upload to EU as well. Sorry for the delay I had some real life stuff.

I saw a couple casted games with this map and all I can say is thank god some good custom ones are starting to get played, because the blizzard maps are AWFUL. None of them should really be in competition.

Does anyone have vods/casts/replays of other high level games on custom maps, especially this one?

Due to the inability to upload custom maps to Europe this can only be played on US server I'm afraid. Anyway, Chupung Ryeong, MoonGlaive and The Garden are all up, just search for them!

I also believe Chupung was played during ITL Season 10: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/ITL_X
No idea where to find the vods though, sorry.
