So I just performed a very simple experiment with my friend in SC2: We both chose terran and basically placed our ghost academies right next to each other. We got nukes and killed off all our other buildings. Then we proceeded to nuke ourselves right in the middle of the two ghost academies. The result:

Interesting... they have a "Tied" feature in SC2, something I don't recall them having in SC:BW. Now of course this case would be a VERY rare occurrence, but it's good to know there's such an option. Of course, this wouldn't happen in a tournament since referees would probably be the deciding factor. However, I think it would be wise for Blizzard to widen the range of this "tied" game; maybe have a button where if both players agree, the result would be a tie. As a result, we may just see more tie games out of the unusually common number of elimination battles in SC2.
If I recall correctly, in SC:BW, when this experiment was done, both players lost.
Maybe they should make this an achievement
edit: nevermind, they had a tie feature in SC:BW as well:

AFAIK they didn't make this option purely for rare occurrences like that. It's mostly for custom maps, I think.

Nothing better to do in beta? I kid, nice find, I wonder if there's more that triggers a tie
|
Yeah..i think there should be a way where you can Vote for a Tie... seeing that it does happen somketimes where a: - terran flkoats away his buildings and u only have ground units and neither has a hatch/cc - all you have left is cannons as protoss and killed the other guy's units + nexus
etc etc
|
lol, thats sweet. definitely not useful, but should really be implemented for floating rax vs lings
|
Hahaha sweet find man. As for the vote tie system, I believe it's not really worth to implement it because such a situation is so rare.
|
vote for a tie?
how does that work on the ladder?
are both players then required to play again?
or will friends simply not have to play one another simply because they dont want to?
|
Nice find! I expected this though. I would've been surprised if this wasn't a feature.

or will friends simply not have to play one another simply because they dont want to? Players don't lose or get any points and match ends. If friends don't wanna play each other, they can vote for a tie as well, nothing wrong with it. The only problem would be if a terran floats his buildings and causes a tie, then keeps refusing the tie request.

that's cool. Apparently this has actually happened too, there was a post a while back about someone who tied his opponent in a ladder game that became a base race. Guess he was telling the truth!
|
Yeah, believe it or not this has happened in a ladder match. Sure it's rare, but cool that they implemented this feature.

this is bad for the game imo.
this is pretty much the same as in high level chess tournaments where grandmasters take "Grandmaster draws." They are called this because the players play 10-20 moves then agree to a draw. They are usually taken either because a draw will get them both a prize, or so that neither has to take a 0 for a round. It's disappointing as a fan and if we are to see this in SC2 tournaments it would be at a large detriment to its potential in esports.

There needs to be some kind of penalty or attachment to a "draw" option. Otherwise this could lead to abuse of the tie option for dodgers.
I think a minor point increase/decrease to follow a draw would work. Or perhaps the best way would be to force a rematch if the two players decide to draw. If one of the players can't/don't want to rematch then sucks to be them. They get the loss. The rematch option is best I feel because as it is now, it's pretty much a contest to see who can stay the longest anyways.

this would be my proposed solution. an auto rematch, though not sure how it would really be implemented. would the players have to play the same races again? same map? ect.

Shouldnt be any vote, the game should realize that neither player can kill eachother, should be doable to code?
|
I think they should have a "OMG the terran has floated his buildings and i havent got any anti air" button which patches a live feed of dustin browder into a window at the bottom of a screen which he then yells terrible terrible damage! As everyone blows up resulting in a draw.
