i will make an analogy that may help every1 understand better
lets say theres a real life party. for those nerds that r like wuh?? a party is where people assemble to drink and talk with each other. ok so ur going to a party, and they have all this beer there, and they r drinkin the beer that they have there.
but suddenly oh no, there r only a few beers left. so the party hosts r like, who thinks they should have the last few beers? any1 can have them, just tell us why u think u deserve the last beers. so first, the ppl who helped set up the party and have been there for hours say maybe pauly or ronnie should have the beers.
but then some new guy mike walks in that minute and is like yo party, i should get the beer because i really like beer. all the peeps at the party get angry bc they dont think mike deserves it, and they also r kind of insulted that mike would even ask, even tho they said any1 could ask 4 beer.
so now its obvious why ronnie and pauly would think mike is an asshole. try to imagine urself as ronnie or pauly. imagine the "party" is an internet forum called teamliquid and the "beers" is beta keys. imagine mike is a new poster. do u see now? "oh shit baller that makes so much sense" u say? ur welcome.

It's stupid to let everyone get to nominate themselves in the first place, it's even stupider to say no one gets the beer if no one retracts their nomination. While Ronnie and Pauly helped with the organization of the party, it doesn't mean Mike isn't deserving from his own perspective. He may have had a full weekend of acting like Mother Theresa, feeding the homeless and buying a donkey the whole village can fuck. So in his own right, he thinks he deserves a break and is deserving of a beer. It doesn't mean he deserves this beer per say, but that he deserves a beer. A nomination isn't forcing anyone to give Mike a beer and it doesn't make him an asshole for wanting one.

this is true...the argument that everyone on this list should opt-out and leave the keys to those that were not self-nominated does not work, since a certain number of keys are allocated to list of individuals that had nominated themselves.
that being said, I don't feel as if this method of self-elimination is the most effective. I would have rather had the admins or vets decide who to grant the keys to in this list based on the rationale, impression, etc. given.
and thanks LordWeird, I'm striving to get better at the game, and intend to make plenty of contributions to the community now that I'm an actual member.

no one knows who the hell mike is Not everyone who nominated themselves is new, and the least the people in the party could do with these new people is listen to what they have to say, especially if the party is open to everyone.

mike could be mother theresa. or he could be a douche that steals ur girlfriend when u go to the bathroom at a club. my point is ronnie and pauly have no idea about this outsider mike guy. and when u join a community ur first posts r the 1st impression u leave for every1 else. u have 1 shot to make a 1st impression on ronnie and pauly. 1 shot. especially on ronnie. and new users like mike r using their 1st few posts to spam for a beer that they kno they probably won't get.
thats why its understandable the older posters r mad, they r ronnie and pauly in the analogy. new posters who act like mike shouldn't complain about the situation they create for themselves.

By placing the decision on us, I feel as though our justifications are meaningless at this point. It almost seemed pointless to rationalize yourself, because now you're just seen as a member on a list of names. To many, there is no distinction between myself and anyone else there. Obviously the other self-nominators likely won't be looking at our posts to find out how they compare. The game has changed completely.

If you're assuming that many starcraft players are not knowledgeable concerning "parties," how does using a party as an analogy help "every1 understand better?"

remove me thnx. for the rest of you, pretty much all of the ppl that invaded with new accounts or relatively new accounts pretty much destroyed the entire meaning behind the original post.

I realize how the analogy works, I'm suggesting that "for those nerds that r like wuh?? a party is where people assemble to drink and talk with each other." was completely unnecessary.
