lets say theres a real life party. for those nerds that r like wuh?? a party is where people assemble to drink and talk with each other. ok so ur going to a party, and they have all this beer there, and they r drinkin the beer that they have there.
but suddenly oh no, there r only a few beers left. so the party hosts r like, who thinks they should have the last few beers? any1 can have them, just tell us why u think u deserve the last beers. so first, the ppl who helped set up the party and have been there for hours say maybe pauly or ronnie should have the beers.
but then some new guy mike walks in that minute and is like yo party, i should get the beer because i really like beer. all the peeps at the party get angry bc they dont think mike deserves it, and they also r kind of insulted that mike would even ask, even tho they said any1 could ask 4 beer.
so now its obvious why ronnie and pauly would think mike is an asshole. try to imagine urself as ronnie or pauly. imagine the "party" is an internet forum called teamliquid and the "beers" is beta keys. imagine mike is a new poster. do u see now? "oh shit baller that makes so much sense" u say? ur welcome. if you're assuming that many starcraft players are not knowledgeable concerning "parties," how does using a party as an analogy help "every1 understand better?" the "party" is the internet forum and "ronnie and pauly" are old teamliquid users and "mike" is a new teamliquid user and the "beer" at the party is teamliquid's beta keys I realize how the analogy works, I'm suggesting that "for those nerds that r like wuh?? a party is where people assemble to drink and talk with each other." was completely unnecessary. ok ill make another analogy if u dont think the party one is appropriate for a gaming forum lets say u used to be a bartender. but now u work as a salesman for ur boss, who provides u with a job and a place to live, right next to where u work. but on the 1st day of work, u start demanding things like a day off. how is ur boss going to react? hes going to think ur undeserving. it doesnt matter that u did great things at ur old job. when u come to somewhere new u need to respect the people who have been there longer. in this analogy (hopefully its clearer) the "job" is the internet forums team liquid, the "boss" is the older users / moderators, "u" is the new posters, and the "day off" is a beta key. hopefully this one is easier to understand than the party one. I'm disgusted at the sense of empowerment you give yourself through this comment. sigh ok im sorry my analogies r bad, its getting harder to think of them ok so lets say ur at a club. for those nerds that r like wuh?? a club is where ppl go to dance with other ppl their age and probably hook up (kiss and stuff). lets say at this club theres drinking, and ur friend walks in and gets drunk. but ur hooking up with this really fly girl and ur drunk friend is demanding that u take her back to her room. it really sucks to stop hooking up with ur girl and u think ur friend who just walked in would not get drunk right away and would understand that ur busy but she just doesnt and keeps demanding stuff. in this analogy ur friend is the new poster and the club is the internet forum teamliquid. the fly girl is the beta key. or maybe the beer is the beta key. or maybe the club is the older users. im not really sure because im running out of analogy ideas. this one isnt as good but i dont know how else to explain it. I think we pretty much already understand the situation. I think they just like humoring you. as far as i know, every1 in this thread understands the situation. if u say u dont understand the situation im gonna make u understand the situation...

wow, this is hilarious none of you will get any though, how many keys are there? don't think enough people will opt out

Hahaha, this thread is epic win. People flaming each other, people licking each others asses while saying that other shall drop out, while still being in it for "a chance for more deserving members of the community to get the keys". Posters who beg to be a part of this, analogies about mike and beer. All for a game that isnt gonna have any winners.
Why cant we just assemble these people, give them one gun each. Say that the last one standing is getting 10 beta keys and 10 000 $. Let pokerstars.net sponsor it or something.

I think there's only 10 keys. So i'm assuming Hot_Bid gets 10 new accounts.

It would be rather humerus if TL turns on the dime and says that everyone who opted out gets a key for being nice.

forgot to add in my post that yes im still nominating myself. I really could use a key Ive followed SC2 since it was announced and have played BW hardcore to train for it.

I know what to do! I order everyone else on the list in green to change your minds and opt-out NOW or none of us will get keys and we shall all die to the great fury that is GREED. Please just let it be me. This way you don't suffer! I'm really doing you a favor you know!

It's fun having to re-explain things over and over, eh?
In a way, I'm starting to hope this does fail, because the manner in which the process is currently being held is causing way too many problems and miscommunication. I think the majority would agree that this isn't the most effective way to handle the situation. At least some people are having fun though haha.

I don't think everyone but 10 must opt out, There could be 50 left and then a drawing between the 50.

Oh shit baller, that makes so much sense... ( to quote you ) Lol good analogy.
I think everyone is analyzing what TL is offering a little too much.
Iv had this TL account since '03 but I'm not the bigges forum poster...obviously. Speaking for myself, which I think goes for a lot of other people in the SC community that are on TL.net 24/7, reading liquipedia, following calendar events, strats... Just getting their fixes from the local SC drugdealer, TL, who we love so dearly.I'm on the site all day!
I myself am writing this from work, from my iPhone... Just because someone doesn't have 10k posts or is well known doesn't mean they are not members of the community. How mean to say so
which brings me to my next point... I should really get back out into the plant where I inspect the quality and safety of vegetables you and Your families are consuming... All the more reason to give me a key. I can see it now:
"Food inspector let's e-coli hit the shelves, reason: he didn't get a Starcraft 2 beta key from TeamLiquid.net" ... No i'd never do that

Yeah I really wouldn't have a problem with generous people getting the keys. But how do we then differentiate those who are actually generous from those just trying to look good for the community?

6. If there are too many people still on the list after 48 hours, nobody gets any.

If there are 20 keys and 21 people are left on the list, we give 0 keys away. If there are 20 keys and 20 people are left on the list, we give 20 keys away.

It's like you're trying to get the last spot on your local recreational American Football team the Liquid Logicians. For those nerds who are like: "What?", American Football is an R-Sport. R meaning "real". Ok so you have the coach saying "Okay we only have a few spots left, tell us why you deserve them and it's yours. Anybody can speak up". You have Leroy Jackson and Chuck Thikstake who have been to every practice and have stayed afterward to help others with working out/going over plays who think they deserve it because they are very loyal and dedicated. Then you have Maxwell Bigshot who just moved to your city and used to be the best player for his team, the Gosu Gamedogs. He thinks he deserves it for whatever reason. He is no more extraordinary than Leroy or Chuck in terms of physical prowess or athletic ability but everybody still thinks that Maxwell is a dickhead because he hasn't done shit as far as their concerned.
In this analogy the spot on the team is perhaps the beta key. Leroy and Chuck are the regular and loyal forum contributes and Maxwell is the average 25 casual user.
