I understand that it makes it easier to decide who gets beta, but i have be up between 4 and 6 am to able to opt in? Whatever it takes to make me "worthy", i guess. You could always just opt out, since this opportunity didn't exist before this thread, you aren't really losing anything. Plus you can help the others have a better chance to get one. + Show Spoiler + On April 18 2010 04:20 3FFA wrote: edit: after no one gets a key, what happens to them? Not sure, but they won't go to the people on the list. "You aren't really losing anything?" Does that mean no one will get keys? Cause if people do have a legitimate chance, your statement of not really losing anything by opting out means, in the end, not getting a key. A chance at a key is as good as having a key if you win. It all starts with a chance, if that chance means nothing, then getting a key means nothing. Maybe it doesn't mean that much to you, but it does to a lot of people. Example: "You shouldn't go to school to get an education, cause really, you're not losing anything." You're only missing out on an opportunity to gain something. Opportunity cost is still a loss. And 'help others' by opting out? You're only hurting yourself if you do that. It's not like the keys will get destroyed if no one wins. They'll be given based in some other more sensible manner. Whether you opt out or not, the same number of people will benefit from the keys, so if you do opt out, you're supporting this group of people over everyone else who might want the beta keys.

I assure you that if I have, or if it appears I have, it was not intentional. Just know that I wasn't directing these posts specifically toward people like you just because you have a low post count. Heck, I have a low post count in my opinion. I do not wish to universally deny you or anyone the chance to get involved; in fact, that's part of the point I'm trying to make. I really see this key giveaway as an opportunity for us newer members to get involved, because we know it's so hard to without a key or a history backing us up. I apologize again if I have been unclear. I reiterate that I want newer posters who have a passion to contribute to remain on this list. I do not want those who have done so for selfish reasons to remain on this list. Best wishes to all. i don't take any offense to what you wrote, and I do agree with you. My post count is so low, so it seems like I made this acct specifically for this contest, and nothing more. But in reality, it was a spark that necessitated that I join a forum that I've been reading and acquiring knowledge from since the beta started. The system in general is cruel. We dedicated newcomers want to play and become better, but the likelihood of us obtaining a key to do so is so slim. As a result, we sit around, watch videos and battle reports of streams trying to gain more knowledge about the strats, and new techs being introduced, while others are playing and actually employing their knowledge. They become better at playing the game, while we remain stagnate until the final version of the game is released, when the competition is already so far ahead of us.

Im saying this to improve the chances of my friend Aerikr getting a key as Im confident in the fact that he is the one most worthy of it, despite how modest he's being about it. Please give the key to Aerikr since he is such a great guy and a huge starcraft fan. Are you Aerikr ?

Even though i conceded my nomination to focus on other priorities, this is exactly why i entered in the first place. The people on top of the ladder right now will get even better simply because of more playing time. Also, we think that we're learning from watching the streams and the "good" people playing, that's bullshit. We can't actually learn until we apply something to the game. I mean i can watch one-hundred replays of the 3 hatch muta into 5 hatch hydra but am i going to learn how to properly execute until i try it several times? The answer is simply: no. Personally, i think that Blizzard needs to release an open beta or the game in the next month or month and a half. The people without a key are waiting so long that eventually they're going to get tired of not playing which could detract the fan-base.

This has been a big concern for myself and others I know who want to be doing something for the scene as well. SC2 Beta is EXTREMELY successful in its current state, and although things aren't fine-tuned just yet, viable information is being distributed throughout the community based on the experiences of those who have had the opportunity to play. And all we really want is to be able to be helpful too. It's mindblowing to believe that beta will leave so many in a disadvantaged position, having not had prior experience in the game. Then again, we will be among the thousands of others who did not get beta as well. So we'll have to do with what comes to the best of our abilities.

Granted, a decent percentage of them are one/two-liners (appreciation statements and konadora statements), but a high number of them are productive, in my opinion. "Spamming some threads" could mean you Live Report for a late night pro match since there are so few of us left to do so. Many of my posts come from those threads, off OPs that I've created and that I stay up till 4, 5 in the morning sometimes to attend to. As for major contributions to the site, well we can't all be Ver. I'm only D+ on ICCup, so you wouldn't see me attending to very specific needs in the strategy forum. Making friends comes with time. I'm still not certain what constitutes making them, but you just get to know people as time goes along. I like my friends in the mafia section, and those that I LR with during the night. So, for me to be a deserving person of a key I should follow your lead? And then maybe in a year I can get one of the keys. I am really just trying to understand what makes me deserving, that was all I asked in the post that you quoted, yet you didn't answer a single thing. Am I to understand that I, as a newcomer and a SC newb (I don't even know what a 'Ver' is, do you mean Vet? Nor do I know what a Live Report is...) I am unable to be deserving of this key? This would be totally okay, I'd get it. I just want to know.

And if they call us robbers we can always pretend it is not our fault, it's the society with it's stigmas which is guilty. As much of a fan of freedom as I am there are limits to what you can do and what you can't despite if it is legal or not. Comunity desided that nominating oneself for doing nothing is wrong (when it was explicity asked to nominate if you felt you were deserving) and it's damn right

This was my original impression of the contest: to post a [self or otherwise-] nomination, stating why you should receive a key. Based on your reasons and impression you deliver to the community, you may or may not be selected to receive a key. This has turned instead into a opportunity to turn these self-nominators against each other, but the original purpose still remains. Those who truly believe that they worthy of a chance to dedicate themselves, newcomer or veteran, should not be chastised for keeping their name in this thread.

Do everyone a favor and take yourself off the list, who cares if the keys go to people who have only posted a few times, be happy for your fellow TLer regardless of if its your best friend or someone you've never heard of. Today, let teamliquid be the only thing you share with the person you help, and let it be enough. I know a lot of you believe that you a very deserving because of your specific situation, and while I agree that you may be in a deserving situation, until you cross your name off you will never be a deserving person.
