When the show is live, the links are disabled. Sorry for that. VOD links should be active again soon.

I suggested this in the chat and it isn't WoC related but do you think you could edit just the part about CPL so people can link that on ESPORTS websites? It was a really good rant and I agree so wholeheartedly.
It's not just the players that didn't get the cash they won (as bad as that is) but CPL has this ridiculous long streak of screwing people and I don't want people to forget that.
Does anyone remember when there was a big poll about adding a new tournament to the CPL with a really good prize purse and Starcraft just barely lost to Team Fortress (I think) but Angel announced that they would be having a SC event as well because of how much support it received. Then neither tournament was added and they said something to the effect of "nobody plays old games"

PvT in this week's challenge is pretty frustrating. Lost every match of it so far to proxy reaper rush, we trade bases but he just floats away and then my zealots & probes never touch his reapers. Eventually my proxy gateways get cleaned up and its gg.
Not really learning anything from it, any advice?
I'm doing 9pylon 10gate 10gate -> scout with building probe (at which point i see fast gas is already up and running) and the proceed to chrono boost zealots, attack his main, and lose handily.

Great show, very interesting to listen in the bus as my mind never stop thinking about sc2

Just wanted to post and say I really enjoy the show. Also this weeks Rush Challenge is very fun.
I am in fact new to SC2 and RTS. Rather than do a 3 rax all-in type build I have been doing the marine\bunker rush from Yokoblue's thread. The player that used it on him is a really good (see: amazing micro) terran named aRete.
My version of the build\rush goes:
- 9 proxy Rax (close to opponent as possible)
- 10 Depot
- Build SCVs while you wait on Rax to finish, save enough for bunker
- Move 2 more SCVs down to proxy
- When first marine finishes take marine and 3 SCVs into enemy base
- Use marine to distract\kill workers
- Build bunker near mineral line
- Rally Rax to bunker, spam marines
I won my first 3 attempts. I went from Rank 70 Copper to 19. And even won one of the games in 2:50. It was a TvT on Lost Temple and the guy floated to the lower island at the start. I scouted two spots and inferred he was at the fourth un-scouted location. I built my proxy rax and then had a WTF? moment when he wasn't there when I moved up the ramp to build the bunker. I took a guess and floated my rax south to the island. When it landed he quit.
It was stopped by a zerg, I was dumb enough to let the OL see my scv.
Thank you for that moment Chill. Looking forward to next week's show both of you!

djwheat, didn't you even cast the epic clan 9 versus death row in quakeworld/netquake? How can you play fps on a console (Halo Reach) after that?
I was redirected to call & brawl when trying to listen to weapon of choice ep2, nice show though

Shouldn't this be on now?
|
It's not on today due to Mother's Day.
|
I don't think I can make it through the 2nd cast lol. These callers are ridiculous.
-Colossus are OP (Terran) -Drops do too little damage (Protoss) -Cliff drops do too much damage (Zerg) -Marauders/marines are OP (Zerg)
It would be less painful to just read the bnet forums. =\

The callers are definitely pretty low level players. I still enjoy the show though
I don't really think the things you listed are terrible call in topics though. All those things would definitely be hard for most low level platinum players on down. I have problems dealing with all that shit and am currently at 1800 platinum.
I would imagine the cliff abuse, reapers, and mass mmm would be infuriating at lower levels.

So has ep 3 aired? It says May 14, but I don't remember seeing it and I don't see it "on demand". If not it should be in 7 hours, right?
|
i hate it when the callers call in and they dont prepare.
|
DjWheat, can you put the show times on your video page also in KST? That way it's easier to see the timing when looking at the korean time top right of the site.
|
Updated the main page with Episode 3 VOD. Podcast/MP3 will come soon (usually 24 hours).
To the poster who commented on the callers, there's not doubt the quality of the callers began a bit low... but it appears that as people get more comfortable, it's getting better.
One of the things we're trying to get people in the habit of doing is, "Hi I'm <name>, I play <race>, and I wanted to discuss <blah>" It's actually really basic radio play and I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about, but even getting that much information helps the flow of the call. Like most shows, it takes awhile before a flow is found. I think we'll always have the "QQ" callers who complain about this or that, but Chill and I are doing our best to turn that into meaningful context rather than frivolous complaint. Our goal is to keep that at a minimum!

Starting positions Thesis: "Bottom seems more popular" Guessing: My theory is best explained by an example from "Red Alert", where one side had "lightning towers". Since the game was actually 2D the attack started at the top of the icon, but the hit box was at the base of the tower. So it resulted in lightning towers at the bottom being able to hit ones above them and the top ones incapable of hitting back.
For Starcraft 2 there is no real "imbalance" like the one I pointed out above, BUT it is actually a thing of perception. Siege tanks, Colossi, Thors, flying units all have the "aggression point" where the shots originate are higher on the screen and thus seem closer if you attack from the bottom to the top. Also Starcraft 2 has a different point of perspective compared to Brood War: - Overlord in BW: "3 fingers high on the screen" - Overlord in SC2: "3.5 fingers high on the screen" So the models seem a bit higher as well and this adds to the change in the perception.

The roach nerf caller in this latest episode had me laughing so hard my housemates thought I was crazy.

haha, djwheat!? I remember playing you in the beta and kinda talking about tl. didnt know you did all this stuff
|
djwheat i just want to say that i think your show is amazing, maybe i will call one day and come with a good question . Anyway sc2 needs more podcasts because they are so entertaining and especially a good way to sleep.
