ok to answer some of the questions in this thread~
How do I change servers/play on multiple servers?

Is a friend key sent to a US/EU/Asian account already bound to any server?
No, a beta key can be used to make any kind of account, depending on the battle.net account it is applied to.
How do I make sure my account is tied to a specific server, if I am not geographically located there?
If you want It tied to the US, go to us.battle.net, create an account and list your country as united states. type in a random address and find a state and zip number from google or whatever
If you want It tied to Europe, go to eu.battle.net, create an account and list your country as any european country (personally, I prefer United Kingdom). type in a random address and find a city and zip number from google or whatever
If you want It tied to Asia, go to tw.battle.net, create an account and list your country as Taiwan. (do not try making a chinese or korean account, unnecessarily complicated) while you're making an asian account with your country as taiwan, this page could come in handy
http://www.stars21.com/translator/taiwanese_to_english.html
type in a random address and find a city and zip number from google or whatever
The best indicator of whether or not you managed to trick battle.net is to log into your account and check the top right
For US accounts it will say English (US) by default
for Europe it will be English (EU)
and for Asia it will be in Korean or Taiwanese
(is that the same as chinese? I never found out, but I think its like traditional chinese)
After you use these signs to assure yourself that you did in fact trick bnet, input the code into that account and enjoy
Im having issues with crashing and such after installing the other Base.SC2data files!
Are you sure you did as was described in the first part of this post? If not try it that way. I know some people with windows 7 installed have issues trying to do this server switch, so im not sure how to help there >_<
|
actually something i was wondering..if the beta is open in korea couldnt you download the korean client and play against only koreans?
|
no, you'd need an asian account to access that beta, wouldnt you?

You could just have 2 installs~~ Just make sure when it asks if you should overwrite directory X you choose no and back that directory up (ie rename it to XYZ [EU] or XYZ [US]).

Switching the "Base.SC2Data" file in "Starcraft II Beta\Mods\Core.SC2Mod" folder of your SC2 installation with the same file from another SC2 client will allow you to play on multiple servers without multiple installations.
I got a friend to send me his US "Base.SC2DATA" file and I replaced the file on my EU SC2 install and managed to login with a US account and play on US B.Net. I have two Base.SC2DATA files (one for EU and the other for US) and I just switch the file names around depending on which server I want to connect to.
[edit for clarification: YOU NEED ACCOUNTS ON THE RESPECTIVE SERVERS TO CONNECT TO THEM (You can NOT connect to the EU server with a US account and vice-versa.) This is only useful to people who have access to multiple accounts on different servers or people who have downloaded the wrong client and do not want to redownload the client again.]
Not too sure if this breaks anything or not but it works completely fine for me; I even managed to get patch 7 when connecting to the US server with a EU SC2 install without any issues. Hope this helped.

Cool stuff, I'd rather have this then download a new client, since currently im back home in bangladesh so my internet is terrible... could anybody using EU client please upload their Base.SC2DATA file?

There used to be a tip floating around, where you had to use an mpq editor to change something in the SC2Data file to be able to connect to another server. I can't find it again though.

As stated a million times already, you need an EU account to play on EU server.

Those Base.SC2Data files just change the server you're trying to log into right? I'm not interested in playing on Asia, but I'd like to play the Korean version ! Is it localized with sounds etc?

Does anyone else get the error "There was a problem downloading this context - try again later"? I swapped my EU data for US data file and it always gets stuck DLing content when I try to join a game on US.

one question though can you give an invite-a-friend beta key to anyone regardless of region?

yes, you can

So if I download the US client but replace the US Base.SC2Data with the Asia Base.SC2Data I'll be able to play on Asia but with an English client?
|
I tried this and I get a wrong login password error (even though I had my first account on EU). Anyone else facing this?
I replaced the Base.SC2Data file with the eubase file and renamed the eubase file as Base.Sc2data. Why does this not work then?

Because you NEED a EU/US account if you're gonna play on EU/US. This is not a thread saying "Hey, I found a way to beat server segregation!". He's just asking what files he needs to replace in order to play on different servers with his DIFFERENT accounts.
On topic, I have both US and EU clients and I just rename the folder in my documents when switching. (though I don't think this really matters, I just do it because I'd like the replays separate)
|
this thread was EXACTLY what i was looking for, thanks for all your help guys
|
i made a ASIAN (korean) account and loaded the game no problem with the basedata but when i looked for player for my placement matches the game would not progress past "player found"... this sucks
|
man im on west cost and im getting major delay on Asia, i shouldn't be though
|
Do I just need an acc, or do I need to have another key on that acc as well?
|
hello i installed the asia sc2 version and replaced the Base.SC2Data file in that folder:StarCraft II kor\Mods\Core.SC2Mod but it still wont work
i can start the clint but it crashes right after the start.
any idea ?

can you give me the US client on French plz? :p

An helpful tip is that you can change your patch realm! if you go to your Starcraft2 folder and Support you can open realmlist with any text program and change the eu to us or visa versa or whatever realm you play on ;p
|
the usbase file link is not working anymore.
|
Can someone throw up the asia one again plz?
|
The US-base would also be much appriciated :D (I´m guessing the old one does not work because a new patch is out?).
Many thanks in advance to the person who uploads it!
|
Is it possible to establish a "Euro" account just by changing your home location/contact info?
Or does the key have to be specifically sent to someone in Europe? I sorta don't get how this one is working.

Better just to reinstall the game after renaming the files for each version, you can even keep the same my documents folders they will all save recs into the same place nicely.

StarCraft II Region Switcher
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?y0ndtgtngtn
This is a batch file (.bat) that I wrote for easier switching between regions when using one copy of the game, in order to save the space of having multiple copies of the game. To use it:
1) Download the base files you want and name them EUBase.SC2Data, USBase.SC2Data and/or AsiaBase.SC2Data, then put them in the same folder as your default base (Mods\Core.SC2Mod\). Do not rename your default base file (Base.SC2Data), just leave it there.
2) Place the batch file in the same folder as the StarCraft II executable, usually C:\Program Files\StarCraft II Beta\.
3) For convenience, right-click on the batch file -> Send to -> Desktop. This way you'll have a shortcut on your desktop for easier access. You can even change it to the StarCraft II icon in properties if you want to.
What does it do?
This script will rename the base files for you, run the game, and once you press any key in the batch window, rename the files back again to default (couldn't get it to do this automatically after SC2 is closed ). This means that you must not close the window manually, but follow the instructions. If you do close before they're renamed back again, you will be noticed by the script next time you run it so you can rename them back manually, so no big deal.
If the batch file has been used correctly (as in not closing the window manually), you should be able to run SC2 the normal way in order to use your default base. You can however simply use the batch file at all times, as just pressing enter instead of choosing a region will run SC2 with your default base.
If you are having any issues, tell me, and I'll try to fix and reupload. It's working perfectly for me at the moment, at least.

when i double click the bat file it opens in txt editor...
|
On May 14 2010 18:54 omninmo wrote: when i double click the bat file it opens in txt editor...
Hmm, the batch file doesn't have any line that should launch a text editor. However, batch files have the "Edit" option when right-clicked. My guess is that it runs "Edit" by default on double-click. Try right-clicking and choosing "Open". If that is the case, I found someone with the similar issue after a quick google: here.
|
Something (Vista/Firefox) renamed my .bat file to .bat.txt. If it's opening in a text editor, then you need to change it from .bat.txt to .bat. If it already ends in .bat, then you probably have file extensions set to hidden.
1) Go to your StarCraft 2 folder where your batch file is located. 2) Vista/(Win7?): Make sure your folder window is in focus (click on it) and hit alt 3) Go to Tools -> Folder Options 4) Go to View 5) Uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types" 6) Hit ok
You should now see .bat.txt at the end of your batch file. Erase the .txt part (when asked to confirm, hit yes). Now it should work. You can also reverse the steps above to hide file extensions again if you prefer.

Can I clarify? What actually defines what region your battlenet account is locked to, is what your postal address is at the moment you register your battlenet key on the battlenet account webpage. Is that accurate?
I ask because I'll be in Japan, with a US (I think) copy of SC2, intending to play in Australia (where I'll be moving to in a few months).
So do I just have to make sure I register my copy to an Australian address when I create the account online, and then make sure I have the right southeastasian or whatever they end up being base files in my client? Or will it not be that simple...?
|
any idea if this still works?
|
|
Would love to know if it works. DLing it.
|
I used this before to switch between EU and US, and just tried, since EU servers are still down. Works fine so far, just used the us base file, and could login np with my us account.
|
Yeah, I confirm it still works well
|
ok, apart from the fact that you cant actually play a single game atm on US, it seems to work - since it looks like everyone has that problem tho, I guess this method still works fine for switching servers using the same client install

No, some players can play. I can't, but TLO can, even tho he had the same problem as me for about an hour... Then it magically went away.
He uses a separate client tho. Has anyone who uses this been able to play? I doubt this is the cause but just curious.
EDIT: Not the cause, TLO tried to use my account and gets the same bug as me .
|
I'm not able to play, got both US and EU account. I use the batch file method to switch servers. I'm able to download maps though, just not start a game, either ladder nor custom game.

EDIT: 100% confirm, method still works, just played a custom game and ranking / ladder matches on US server

Shit I downloaded the stuff and just used another friend key and now it will not let me login to my regular EU account... it says that SC2 is not associated with that account! If I login on battle.net in the browser SC2 beta is 'active until beta closes'. I really want to be able to play on Europe when it gets up again but it seems somehow playing on the American server rendered my EU account useless? Any help would be GREATLY apprecaited

hey guys,
Just activated an US account (with a spare key i had), but after launching the game with the switcher (and removed my old starcraft 2 folder in my docs) i get the error: "this battle.net account does not include an associated copy of starcraft 2"
Tried to also redl the client from us.battle.net but the file is not on their server anymore :-/ Does someone know a safe place to dl the us client ? (other than bnet)
|
Thanks a lot, work perfectly for me, however, I do not have a key linked to an Asian account If anyone got one and do not use it, feel free to share ^^
I did give up for this game a long time ago, but thanks to those threads, I find out lots of tricks to be able to play in a decent way.
Keep up the good work, you have given me the view of a shiny light beyond the tunnel ...
|
I'm in Asia, and I downloaded the US client because I can't read Chinese. So when I log in to Bnet it says 0 games in your region, 0 games worldwide, 625,000 players on Bnet.
Does everyone says that? I'm just trying to figure out whether it auto chose the asian server for me (its still offline though right) automatically.
Like when I type battle.net i get the kr.battle.net. If not I better not log into with my Asian linked acct until the asian servers come back online.

Ok I just had to do it all over again and I could switch servers just fine

|
one needs an US account to play with this switch or can use EU? (how do you register an US account anyway? - do i need another beta key?)
|
Yep you need another beta key to registeer a US account ...
|

|

This is what u do. Copy a .dll file instead, rename it to .bat and then edit it with wordpad to do the stuff its supposed to and then just start it as usual
|
done

just wanted to say that this
doesnt mean much. i created a US account yesterday(lucky me) and in the account thingy it showed that. but evrything worked fine. more important is the "us.battle.net" in the adress bar i think

Those megaupload links do not work.

Hey, could someone please upload a working USBase file? The one offered in the OP apparently isn't working for me anymore.
Thanks
|
im planning on playing on both us and eu servers when game releases, anyone have any idea if this method will still work?
|
can anyone check if this work in the real release? (assuming you DO have an account for that server)
|
This does NOT work for retail. I'm currently working on a solution, but it'll likely be another day before I have anything finalized and repeatable. You can follow this thread for my progress: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=137640
I'll of course post a fresh thread with instructions once I have a final solution.
|
i used this and i get pink screen now and mod error when i try load a game plz help!!
|
Because this is thread is a year old.
|
Thanks meep! your awesome bro!
|
i can log in but i get a pink screen in background and it changed my mods i guess
|
I'm sorry, this thread is outdated. If you wanna relocalize your client go to this thread SC2 Client Relocalization
I cant seem to edit the original post so I cant put up a warning
|
does it mean my SC2 is ruined n need a complete reinstall? Or is there a way to get rid of the pink background.
Or how to fix this error?
|
repaired SC2 under sc2 folder option! Worked! Thanks me!
|
it says i need a language pack to play on EU, any ideas?
|
2 Questions:
1) I live in China and I can't access megaupload because it is blocked. Can you upload the asia base file to adfly? (I purchased a US version while living in US, now since I moved to China, it's very hard to play with the latency on the NA server)
2) Where is the mods folder where you put the base file?
