Hey everyone!
If any of you watch my Day[9] Daily, you've heard my INCESSANT annoyance at the fact that SC2 seems to really screw up Mic quality. I've been trying to find a super clean, easy workaround, and I've finally found one! Here's an audio guide here:
(Audio example of SC2 mic problem and how to fix it)
Here's the basic process to prevent mic audio quality from being messed up by SC2: 1) Close all programs that are actively taking audio input (recording programs, procaster, SC2, skype, ventrilo etc). When I say "actively taking audio input," I mean like if SC2 is open, if you're IN a skype call etc. If you have skype open and you're not chatting w/ anyone that's ok. However, if you are logged into a server on ventrilo, CLOSE it! 2) Open up ventrilo, log onto a server, and mute sound and the mic/binds. That way, no one on the vent server can bug you while you stream 3) Open up SC2 4) Begin streaming!
For examples of the difference in sound quality, listen to the audio link above. Hope some people find this trick useful .

Ty VM for this useful info.

Starcraft 2 always disables the +20dB Boost option for my microphone on Windows XP when I start it so I usually just go back into recording controls and toggle it back on every time I start SC2. If I don't do this my microphone quality is drastically reduced and my voice becomes very quiet over voice chat. If any of you use the +20dB Boost option and have an issue similiar to mine definitely check if that's on after starting SC2; if you don't then you probably have some other issue. I don't stream or anything but everyone always tells me my voice gets really quiet after I open SC2 over voice chat so if you're having an issue similiar to this, this might be your solution.
I just wish Blizzard would fix this already seeing as it's been on the known issues list for quite some time now.
Hope this helped someone at the very least.

im angry cus my problem isnt this one and i hoped it was lol im still screwed <3 I get, there was an error with your audio. Thats with my mic plugged in while using Procaster for SC2 only I might add. If i unplug the Mic then no more error.

Idrs nailed it, and i'm glad he did. this is what was happening to me. why would they do that?!
anyway... thanks!

Wait....
So is there a way to stream SC2 with the ingame sound AND your voice?
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how that would work. ><

Oh wow thanks maybe this will help my streaming audio o_O

Your mileage may vary, depends on your audio interface as to whether or not this happens, but glad to see there's a fix for those that have this issue.

Just a technical note on why this works: only one handle to a recording device can be opened at once. The first application to open the recording device gets to specify what number of channels, sampling rate, bit depth, etc that it wants which affects the quality. Subsequent applications that try to open it only get a handle to the already opened device and are forced to use whatever quality it was originally opened with. SC2 opens the device in a low quality mode and Ventrilo opens it in a high(er) quality.

Best approach if you take streaming with commentary seriously (not aimed at Day9, just a general point to anyone wanting to try this) is to get more than one audio interface. Get a decent mic like a Samson C0-1U USB which is in itself a seperate audio interface, pump your Starcraft 2 audio through your onboard or whatever soundcard you happen to have. Procaster will mix the 2 audio inputs easily enough. If you want to use Vent/Skype and such as well, just use whatever headset you have currently for that and keep the proper mic for audio broadcast only.
Like I said, only if you are really serious about it. A good mic isn't all that expensive, but it's still an expense.
