Is anyone else getting a ~0.5 second delay on all unit commands? I really would have hoped this wasn't necessary, but that's how it feels for me at the moment. Also I cannot find any options for reducing latency.
Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, but considering what LAN latency meant for SC:BW I felt like this deserves it's own thread >.< Hopefully it's just something wrong on my end, or at least they'll probably improve on it in time for retail.
Once again, no reason to freak out about it yet. I just want to make sure I'm not the only one feeling this :S
I get a 0.5sec to 1 sec delay on every command I do. But a few of the people I play with claim to have no delay. It could just be the servers not being tested and such.

It felt like there was a pretty serious delay on my machine, but I bumped the resolution down to 16 bit colors, and it felt more responsive overall. Maybe give that a shot?
Ugh, this is terrible news for me. You'd really think they'd find a way to have it lower than what the community managed to tweak a 10 year old game to do, you know?
i'd suggest turning down your graphics settings. i was playing at 1680x1050 Ultra everything and it felt like high latency. i turned a couple settings down and it became much mroe responsive.
Unfortunately I still have the same response delay after nuking all of my settings from ultra to low
I played a cpu game once and the delay was TERRIBLE.. if the game was anything like that, i'd give up on it instantly but I lowered down the display quality, it was day and night. Try that.
Yeah my first game lagged a lot at start, with 32 bit colour, and everything at ultra, I turned it down to 16 bit and everything on medium and it got a lot better. Initially the game even told me "you're slowing the game down, please lower your graphics settings" or something like that ~~
oh, another thing I turned on was that option that makes the mouse for responsive but might slow down framerate.. u guys might try that, the mouse feels really smooth now.
Changing video settings didn't affect the delay at all for me in games vs. AI. I meant to check again in a real game but kind of got distracted I *THINK* It was still there.

If you guys get 0.5-1 i'm prolly gonna be getting 2+ zzzz

They were getting FPS lag which can lead to what seems like Command lag because of CPU draw and reaction time as the client can't keep up with the server. There is as of right now 0 lag on Bnet.
Very low delay out of the games i've played so far you sure you're just not expecting the units to be more reactive over all play a few games against a computer to be sure.

please only vote if you know for sure, this is a serious poll to me.
Poll: Do you notice all your actions respond after a noticeable delay? (Vote): Yes, but in Custom Games only (Vote): Yes in both Custom and Ladder games (Vote): Yes, but Ladder only (doubtful) (Vote): No, I've tried both and my actions feel like Lan Latency is enabled
I get a pretty big delay in both custom and ladder. :X
A .5 sec delay on unit orders is pretty noticeable in all game modes, even with low settings. I hope this is reduced in the future since it will hamper the perfection of new micro.
I'm not sure if it's actually delay but it feels like the unit waits for the click animation to finish before it does the command.
I get a massive delay (like 0.5-1) in both. Both on default and lowest settings.
Are you sure you people have "no delay."
You guys may not be noticing the difference because the default is so much better than SC:BW.
I don't know if this is related to the latency, but if you go to options<gameplay< "reduce mouse lag" Says "will make the mouse more responsive, but may drastically reduce frame rate."
Check it and see if it improves anything I guess. Maybe this is nothing, but just putting it out there.
I assume that this reduce mouse lag option makes the game update and draw the mouse position more frequently than the rest of the game (so for example: game runs at 30 frames, mouse at 60 frames). That shouldn't have a big positive impact on the overall latency, but should make the controls feel a lot better. I don't have SC2 Beta though, so I can only guess. But I have heard that SC1 uses the same concept.
I believe novice games are played on a lower game speed setting, which could be an issue.
The mouse latency option does not fix the delay for me. Or do anything noticable, really.
I feel delay too, if anyone finds a fix... please update. Ill try some stuff too.
For the people who say they have delay: what sort of framerates are you getting? is it completely smooth 60+ at all times? The only reason I could see the settings making a difference is because the framerate is much higher.
im having high delay as well and its really impacting my performance especially when alot of micro is needed.
I hope they fix this b4 release! :<
other than that, PWNAGE game!
edit: Frames not an issue, tried setting everything on low + 16 bit made no difference to the delay.
Maybe it's some kind of auto-lan latency feature? LAN latency on ICCUP delays the response by some time so that even if someone lags behind by 0.5s his actions respond just as fast as everyone else right? (don't actually know what LAN latency does but I get a 1s delay on high lat settings). Maybe you're playing opponents with bad ping and b.net decides to engage LAN latency?
if this is true it's sad to see that ppl will try to get a new server to get rid of this delay
anyone have anymore news regarding delay?

I haven't felt a delay except for in a few games... But I haven't played on ICCUP for a few months which might be why I don't notice it.
I feel like my reapers instantly turn around when I tell them to tho.
I read somewhere that some Nvidia cards force pre-rendering by default in SC2, which causes a noticeable delay, and that disabling this pre-rending feature helps a ton. Maybe see if that's your case?

I think the latency on Europe is just fine.
the delay in iccup is about 0.1 sec the delay in sc2 seems to be around 0.6 sec
i still find it pretty playable tho, nothing that has annoyed me so far
