Roaches are just 75/25 for 2 food worth of unit, compared to 125/50 for a 2 food stalker at the other extreme. This is why a Zerg maxing on roaches will always have way more food than a Protoss maxing on stalkers, but they will not actually be ahead in the game. | ||

But since they're that cheap it's obvious that they should be weaker than stalkers which cost 125/50 but they are still the same supply. So if you mass up roaches and mass up stalkers, you can still just get as many roaches as stalkers but the stalkers will own the roaches. | ||

This means that you get less army value in a 200/200 roach army than in a 200/200 stalker army. | ||

A Roach is 75/25 and costs 2 supply. Compared to Protoss units, where this saying "Roaches are expensive on food" is used the most: Stalkers are 2 supply, but cost 125/50. And the Protoss power-units are similar... Colossus is 6 food for 300/200 (compare: 6 food of Roaches costs 225/75) and Immortals are 250/100 for 4 food (compare to 150/50 for 4 food worth of Roaches). What this means is that when comparing supplies between 2 players, the Zerg going mass-Roach will typically have a higher supply, even though he may not have a stronger army. Consequently, maxing out with Roaches is cheaper than with most other units, but it will generally give you a weaker maxed army. | ||
