I am a Master's Zerg player, and playing ZvZ on ladder is making me go absolutely crazy! I can't seem to win a game vs. other Zerg players, and whenever I do it feels very messy and somewhat lucky. For example, I have won numerous games by fast expanding, transitioning into LOSING my expansion, and then finishing him off with a well orchestrated roach/baneling/zergling all in lol. That is seriously the way I have gotten most of my ZvZ wins in the last few days.
So for this reason, I would like to request a daily on in-depth analysis of ZvZ! With people going mutas, zergling baneling, roach hydra, roach infestor, etc, the match up just seems extremely unpredictable and strange. I personally have no idea what I am doing anymore, and seeing the weird things my opponents do makes me feel like most of them don't either haha.
So yeah, I think a ZvZ daily would be a great christmas gift to noob zergs all around the world =). Last but not least, thank you Day[9] for helping noobs like me play SC2! We appreciate it lol This x 10

Does the sc2 community have a player of the year/most improved nomination award? If not I think there should be. Maybe Day[9] could start it up.
|
What if, with the new flood of support for the mapmaking community, Day9 did a daily where he views, analyzes, and shows reps of a new map of his picking? As new maps become a regular thing, helping the community to know how to size up a map, to know what to look for, and show the smart things the pros are doing on the new ones would be awesome.

An in depth ZvZ would be amazing day 9 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I have to agree on the ZvZ. I'm a masters level zerg and I used to claim ZvZ as my best matchup (Before all the muta stuff started to happen), but now it just seems like nothing but a muta race.
It seems that whenever I go mutas and my opponent doesn't, I win. If my opponent goes mutas and I don't, I lose. If we both go mutas, it is usually determined by either who gets them first, or if we get them at the same time then whoever gets their 3rd up first wins.
I've tried just doing roach/lings allin when I can clearly see they're going mutas, but it seems like just throwing up 5 spines and making 1 wave of lines is enough to hold any allin.

Agree with ZvZ, i can destroy any master level T or P i meet, but when it comes to zvz... i might aswell be playing with my eyes closed.

Same. I basically cheese every zvz because at least I *KNOW* what the branches are that the game can take.

Could you cover all the mirror match ups day?
I have immense trouble in TvT (high Diamond) as it's just so... coin flippy...

Hmm. TvT is my best match-up. I don't consider it coin flippy at all.

Day9 has not discussed HoTS yet right? Can't wait for his new episodes

I don't understand whats so coin flipy about tvt... You can just as easily fe and defend as you can do an all in. The only problem with tvt is that when you get a position its usually unbreakable so it makes for 40 min game standard but even then a lot of the new stuff has been mass marine vs mass marine

Dear, Day9 i am seeing a stream of people complaining that they dont understand the mirror matchups within this thread, perhaps you could do a daily on the concept of stealing your opponents build and testing their build against your own and others so that you may better understand its strengths and weaknesses in the hopes of abusing those weaknesses
example PvP i once had a ton of trouble against the Oz 11 gate 3gate push with my phoenix build, i was holding off 4gates barely but the 3gate was just hitting at a near perfect timing against my build, so i just started using it until i realized that i could beat it through going gate gate star gate instead of gate star gate gate (original i know but the point stands that the easiest way to figure this out for me was to watch how others beat it and figure out what i was doing differently)
-this concept is amazing if you can play all 3 races and leads to way greater understanding of the game imo (lucky randomers...the ones that play legit and dont allin every game xD)

There is nothing wrong with doing this, it is definitely helpful, but a match up isn't so easily broken down into simple build orders, and many people HAVE suitable build orders but do not always know how to react to the specific situations that arise only in specific games. For example, on most maps I can hatch first and live without taking too much damage most of the time, and the other maps I usually go for a speedling expand and can do the same. However, depending on how the early game goes and depending on the route your opponent chooses to take, the way you should play after the early game changes quite drastically.
There is also a ton of scouting and reading your opponent that is very important in ZvZ, which isn't so easy as spotting a specific building or unit or something like that. Your opponent can choose to make 8 drones or 8 roaches when his larva injects pop, and your reaction needs to be very different in each case. The problem is identifying things like this without being able to scout inside of your opponents base and actually SEE what he has.
So yeah, I understand your point and I think it may be more applicable to lower levels of skill, but the higher up you get the more interpretation and reading needs to be done and that type of strategy is independent of just build orders.

Hey guys, I've got problem. I study in china, and there is no way to watch Day [9], as blip.tv, youtobe, justintv etc... are blocked here :D Is there any way to watch it on asian websires, or meybe to download it?

I can post my requests in this thread, sure
ZvT (mech) (you did a nice job explaining Goody mech, but what if you play as Z? During the episode you said all the good things about mech, but how can you beat this?)
ZvP (all I found was old ZvP dailies, but because of metagame changes and balance patches these no longer apply)
