I have it on. It looks like its giving me 50 minerals a second or two faster as the first worker finishes. It also helps with various lag problems in the beginning.

I leave it on. It doesn't cause me a hiccup when playing WoL, and makes things less hectic when typing in 'gl hf'. (Yes, I'm one of those insufferable bastards that exalts sportsmanship.)

It seems faster (or at least even) than manually splitting and then there's no chance to screw up your split and click behind minerals or whatever. I don't really care for the idea of it, but it's simply better so I just use it since I play pretty competitively. Ideally I'd like to see it taken out all together though, but it's not a big deal.
If you watch Godzilla backwards it's about a benevolent lizard who helps rebuild a city and then moonwalks into the ocean.

I just leave it on, the scvs seem to move faster than if you do it by hand. At first I hated it, but I got use to it.

I notice a LARGE increase in early game economy, I would say maybe 5-15 minerals before first pylon, could be that iw as always slow but my timings have gotten a lot crisper in the first minute. The gateway on 12 is a few seconds faster and my 14 forge has turned to 13 with 2 chronos, use it, USE IT

Although the automatic split isn't optimal, I think it's better than most of the/any players are able to do.
The reason is simple: Before the automatic split, you had two (or three things, as zerg) to do:
1. build first worker
2. send workers to minerals
(3. send overlord)

Even though my split was very good - I used the F1 (select idle workers) split to manually send them to the closer minerals, I was able to do all three steps between 6 and 7 ingame seconds - I experience huge income advantages with the new split.

Building the first worker, + the fact that it takes you a second to react when the loading screen is done (Again, thanks a lot for having the countdown before the loading screen, blizzard) makes it so its much more profitable.

Theres still room for additional worker micro still tho. Like keeping that one worker from going to the backside of the mineral patch, and if you're quick I guess you could still split a couple before they reach it.

As zerg you should send the drones first, then morph the first larva to a new drone.
You don't choose to play zerg. The zerg choose you.

Tried turning it off the first time I played, after that I tried a few games with it on. Big difference in the early game for me to have it turned on. I get too much delay from Australia at the start of the match to leave it turned off. If you have zero latency a manual split would be better since the auto mine just sends them all to one patch.

For a long time I split really fast by using the idle worker button (which i ofc have set a custom hotkey for) in WoL, but with the latest patch (and in HotS as it turns out) it seems there is something messing up this routine now, so i had no choice but to start using the autoplit function. The autosplit is worse than my previously used idle worker key manual split, but its better than my idle worker key manual split since the latest patch, due to the reason i just stated above.

i keep it on, why turn it off. better this way if you lag, also i'm defnitely not at a skill level where this sort of thing would matter.

I was noticing issues with being able to micro my workers (i.e. pair them up on closer patches) where my probes would deviate from targeted mineral patch much faster than before. So, I turned off the auto-split, and that seemed to stop the worker AI from screwing with my pairing micro. Beyond putting workers on closer patches (less distance to minerals=faster income), pairing up workers is important because it organizes them so that they aren't roaming around, looking for an open patch (instead of actually working).

Now, I'm not sure whether or not the auto-split actually affects other aspects of worker AI, since the new UI has driven me away from playing this game lately, but after about a dozen or so games with the auto-split and then a dozen or so games without it, it definitely seems like the auto-split does something to the brain of my probes. They seem to look around for other patches more often than before. But maybe that was just lag before changing a lot of game settings, since lag can obviously affect worker pairing micro on a major level.

I don't play much right now, since I have a ton of work IRL and I also abhor playing with the new idle worker button. But for those who do, maybe they can look more into what might be a downside to the auto-split function. I'm not sure if it's real or if it's just other factors (maybe I'm crazy or flat-out wrong), but I am curious about it.
