Confirmed to work with Patch 1.5 (31 July 2012)
Cheers.
Below are replays of me beating 1v2 Insane AI.I and 1v4 Very Hard A.I in Patch 1.5. Most other threads/youtube vids date back to 2010-2011, and try to exploit weaknesses in the A.I that Blizzard now has fixed (e.g the Spine Crawler rush or the Rising Tide trick). These two strategies still rely on A.I faults, but are more solid for future patches. Worth noting is that beating 1v4 Very Hard A.I will not lend you the 1v3 or 1v2 achivement (although it does give the 1v4 Hard and Medium ones). Quickest way to get Outmatched Crusher is to play 1v2 Insane, 1v3 Very Hard and finally 1v4 Very Hard.
Without further adieu, here are the replays; enjoy.
1v2 Insane A.I (replay) Map: (4) High Orbit Setup: PvPP Strategy: Cannon Rush (lol) Notes: * One of the A.I:s will try to construct an Immortal. You are doomed if it succeeds. Find and destroy the robo a.s.a.p * If done right, you can pull a million workers from the mineral line. It's not required, but very funny to watch.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/hCvuG.jpg) Zealots valiantly try to push back the cannons, but, alas, their might is unprecedented.
1v4 Very Hard A.I (replay #1) (replay #2) Map: (8) Lava Flow Setup: PvZZZZ Strategy: Rush 2 Warp Prisms -> Expand on island -> Void Rays Notes: * Important: Due to the random nature of Blizzard's A.I, this method only succeeds 1 out of 3 times. The other times, Zerg overwhelm your base with Mutalisk balls or Overlord drops. Just curse that you wasted 30min of your life, and then try again. * Zerglings will target your Nexus first and foremost, but if they get close to your workers they'll switch targets. Make sure you wall off any 'accidential path' for them around your Nexus, preferably creating a choke point to minimize damage. * Once your robo starts to create Warp Prisms, the Zerglings and Roaches will dart between it and your Nexus (indecisive as they are). Use this advantage to stack up on a few extra minerals before your base is annihilated. * If you spawn right next to an island, it's possible to rescue more than 16 workers to your new base. * Get upgrades. Zerg will not get upgrades for some reason, or at least very few, so 3/3/3 will make your Void Rays pretty much invurnerable.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/YWSNY.jpg) The mighty Zerg fall victims to the Void Rays in an attempt drop roaches in the mineral line.

Excellent replay of 1v4. Havent watched the other yet.

All can be completed on that one lava map ...Rising Tide(?). Cheers! :D

Tried your method twice, I simply get overrun as soon as I try to take mainland again Even if your voids can beat their army you can't kill the roaches fast enough, they take out the nexus so quick. Not sure how you managed to get a nexus and cannons on the mainland for so long without them massing at you. Guess I'll keep trying and hope it's luck.

Been at it all morning with three games, two lost and one won (winning replay).
There is a random element of chance when dealing with A.I (perhaps it's even worth mentioning in the first post). For one, if they don't scout out your first base, the first Zergling/Roach push is heavily delayed (giving you extra time to mine minerals). This, among other behaviours, can explain why they're sometimes willing to rush down your base and other times are more passive.
Anyways, I have two suggestions that might help you win, derived from that replay: 1: Make sure your Void Rays meet the Overlords out on the field before they have time to drop their roaches. Having both Nexi survive is not garantueed, but you will survive the push. 2: As soon as you have more minerals than you can manage, spam cannons. SPAM SPAM SPAM. The Mutalisks target cannons over Void Rays for some reason.
Winning will take time (both replays are well over an hour long). The general idea here is to have enough Void Rays so you can keep killing their endless waves of Roaches, Zerglings, Brood Lords, Ultralisks and other non-anti-air units until they've mined out all minerals on the map (you'll need to expand to the main land at least once though). It is only when they can't feed their armies that you can go in for the killing blow.
I hope this post made things more clear; good luck and have fun!

Great methods, just took both achievments. To me, it was crucial to get the close spawn to the island, and my maindland expo was the gold. I did, however, get a mothership somewhat earlish. By targeting their detection I was able to defend easily, move out a lil bit earlier, and I even split my army. 20 voids + ship on clean up mission, about 10 defending the gold (no cannons).

I tried the Lava Flow with Protoss strat, but in my case the AI sent all Overlords at the same time to my base and I couldn't stop it. It didn't happen in Mossmyr's replay. It was like over 12 Overlords dropping at my base and GG.

I've covered what you're experiencing in the original post now, read it. For further info, read my reply to jdseemoreglass.

Did they remove Megaton or whatever base where 4 shared base map? I remember I did it PvTTTT just cannon rushed all 4 in one go.

As far as I know, this strategy is the only valid one. I have yet to try the Reaper Rush, though I doubt it'll work.

Nice going to try and get these achievements tonight!
|
What about the 4v4 Insanes? I find those difficult.
|
4v4 insanes are actually really easy. You just need to cripple one of the enemy AI.
Do PvT first. Cannon rush, starting from the low ground. Try and get some cannons behind a mineral line. Once you prevent one of the enemies from mining you can slowly build up yourself and you should be able to overrun them pretty easy.
Then do TvP and go for one base three rax reapers. Once you have 3 to 5 start going after workers. Pull back and build up reapers, but when the enemy tries to move out go attack. Once you have one enemy crippled the rest will die easilly
Last do a ZvZ and do a spine crawler cheese. You are aiming to get at least two spines behind a mineral line. You have to plant the spines in a spot where only one enemy drone can attack it at once. This one took me a lot of trial and error and probably luck.
Google 4v4 Insane and I'm sure you can track down video examples of most of these tactics.

Won 1v4 with your strategy, thanks!
It was my 2nd or 3rd try. What I did was: as you've said, rushed for the prism, when first one came out zergs were already attacking my nexus. Using 2 prisms I've transferred probes to the island, where established 2 nexuses, rushed to 3 starports, made ~150 void rays limit AND about 20-25 photon cannons. Mutalisks usually attack cannons which cost much less then void rays. So a little later I moved out and started killing hatcheries and buildings. Zergs has rebuilt their bases 2-3 times, I had about 20 voidrays left after all and zergs has run out of resourses. It took me about 20 more minutes to find and kill remaining buildings.

That strat made it quite easy to get. thanks Moss

Not sure, why did you choose protoss for the 1v4? Because going for terran, lift a CC and go for BC's looks more natural...
|
It's still possible do 1v4 on megaton by cannonrushing. I did it today.
The key is to first set up a good defensive position down the ramp with 2 cannons, quickly kill off 1 opponent and then work your way into the middle, in order to threathen the remaining 3 opponents, to prevent them from teching up. I can send out a replay in case anyone is interested.
It's way faster than going 1v4 on lavaflow.
|
@Ednar: I'd like to see that replay. I tried it but they tech to immortal and smash me.
|
Yes I'd like to see that replay as well... immortal zealot simply crushes me, and terran bio ball isn't much better.

As i know, a lot of people are struggling. I've tried the lava flow tactic 2 times, first game i had to take a toiletbreak, thus causing me to lose. Second game i got over-runned. Thats why i did this instead: ( A LOT FASTER)
Cannon rushing on Megaton still works great on 1vs4 very hard. Just finished it after 9 tries. The key is good cannon placing. Place pylon, forge and 2 first cannons below enemy base-tier. When the 2 cannons finishes , create an additional pylon at enemy base-tier. Then work your way towards a second and third base. As for the fourth enemy base, i had to macro up behind my cannons with colossi.
I played VS 4 Terrans , i found that to be way easier then vs 4 protoss.
Gl hf!

Until I see a replay where workers do not swarm-rape you, I will not believe you or anyone else made a cannon rush work on megaton against 4 very hard ai's post-patch. No matter where I place pylons, high or low, they come for me. I can get them in against one, but then three others swarm and own me no matter how quickly I place cannons.

Here's a replay for you. I forgot to mention that you CANNOT, in no circumstance walk your probe up the ramp NOR try to place anyting on the highground. IF you even walk your probe up the ramp the enemy AI will react and swarm you. The key is to get 2 cannons up on the lowground (make sure they finish) before you even bring your probe to the highground. During the next minute the AI's WILL swarm your cannons. However they will not be able to destroy them. When you feel it's safe, you place a cannon (while dancing your probe) on the highground and continue.
I also noticed the game actually toke 23 minutes, but i'm sure you can cut down that a lot with a more perfect placing. Hope it helps, heres the replay: (speedyshare) http://speedy.sh/gZ2aE/Cannon-rush-vs-4-VH-AI.SC2Replay

I can confirm what danceking experienced. After what felt like 67 failed attempts, I found and watched his replay and pretty much imitated his placement which gave me the achievement on the first try with this method. I actually continued the cannon rush and got the fourth AI to gg only with cannons, but had to get a few Stalkers in to clean up the 3 crippled AIs. It's kinda annoying they only gg if they run out of CC, workers AND army. A single Zealot would have been enough, but I started macroing up before I realized cannons would do fine and since I had 5 Gates then...
I think the key to victory is to begin with the upper right AI (if they're at the top, lower left one if they're at the bottom) and work through the lower ones while the cannons built in the upper right's base keep the upper left one's army at bay. In my previous attempts, I started with the two lower AIs (I actually managed to rush both of them down quite fast, but the other two just overran me by then), so basically the two upper ones merged forces. With this method, they get split up and the right ones lose before they really have anything while the left ones each have their own frontline to fight at and can't unite.
One funny thing is the last AI starts randomly sending single units into the cannons, thus accelerating its demise (aka. mining out). I think the reason is it wants to expand, but since there are cannons, it sends Marines with its SCV to draw cannon aggro, but they just die both^^
Long story short, thanks a lot to danceking and here's my replay (23:25) for Patch 1.5.2.
Oh, one last thing. Terrans are not just easier, I actually believe it's not possible any more with Protoss. The Immortals are just far too powerful against cannons, no Terran unit can match that. Tanks don't get teched up with Siege Mode fast enough and by the time the last AI gets Battle Cruisers, it doesn't matter any more.

You're very welcome scenia, I'm happy you got the achievement aswell. Also some nice points you made.

I tried the cannon rush vs terrans just like in the replay, but even before my first 2 cannons were finished the AI had marines taking them down. Will it happen all the time? Changed in the latest patch?
|
Lol. danceking, if you want to I can add the megaton cannon rush to the post. Gonna need some help with it though.

the Ais dont attack you until you go highground, so make sure you go up when your cannons are close to finish.
