Just keep building from the beginning Vikings, dont lose any of them or you will regret it at the end. When the protoss deply their squadrons of death be prepared and send your vikings to intercept them before they reach your allies position. The reason behind this is because they dont attack you. Finally, keep pumping marines from a rax with a reactor, and again, dont lose too many of them. When the mothership is really close to your base star building tons and tons of turrets with the money left. GL

same here. I've been completing all the missions easily on hard but this one I just can't seem to grasp. It's kinda hard to keep all the infestations down, and if one gets up too long your screwed.

edit: picked protoss side.

the mission is very straightforward, get a reactor on your starport and start massing vikings, use your batch of vikings to traverse the terrain, kill the first location, repair and wait it out.

Recipe for taking out the infected villages before the thing hatches: Skirt around the edges to pick of the mutas and broodlords with minimal loss and land. kill the big morphing thing and mass up mmm with hellion support to push onto the zerg top expansion for a fast expo.

Do repair the vikings and invest in armory for +1 +2 shipweapons.

oh and theres around 400 gas hidden down in the left corner.

I chose to cleanse rather than protect and won pretty easily using tanks, M&M and vikings. However, I only protected 2 settlements because my army was pretty slow. I think straight M&M out of 4 or 5 rax plus vikings would've been better. A single bunker with marines and an scv to repair at each choke will easily protect your base from the units that trickle in. I think the vikings are necessary just to deal with the broodlords.

EDIT: Picked the cleansing side.

Main point: Build vikings, mass marine/medics. When an infestation goes down, send in the vikings to kill off the mutas, try pulling them one by one. Then take down the broodlords. Then, finally, you can send in your ground force. Additionally, you can pull the mutas into your marine force so that your vikings don't take too much damage.

The main problem is that as soon as you clear out one infestation, there's a good chance a second one's starting up somewhere else. If you don't clear out the infestation, you've got to deal with a steady stream of enemies, and killing all those buildings will take a while.

I think the order is deterministic, i.e. the first site infested is always the one to the south of you. If you 'know' ahead of time which ones will be infested, then leaving some forces in the appropriate locations should buy you enough time to macro up to a good level. That's kinda cheating though

If you can manage to build up three forces - one to clear out infestations, one to kill off bases, and one smaller one to defend against base attacks - you'll be fine.

Note that the southern base has banelings.

Ok, I did this actually REALLY easy on hard, while also picking up the acheivements to protect 3 and 5 settlements. I massed Diamond backs and vikings in my base while making two nuke silos + A few Ghost/Spectres. As soon as a settlement would be infected, I would nuke it before it went up and only once got a ghost to close to the infestation that I got spotted by an overseer.

TL:DR Mass in your base and nuke the new infestations.

I'll tell you how I beat it on brutal.

The main problem with this mission is that if you play too passively you'll get overwhelmed. You need to start attacking the infested camps literally immediately. Take your first couple vikings and clear out the first camp, they should be able to do it by themselves. Start with the brood lords obviously.

I forgot exactly what order the infestations happen in, but I ended up going north and expanding at the top location. The most important thing about this mission is that you have to hit new infestations the moment they pop up.

Zerg units that attack your base either come from the north zerg base or the south zerg base. You'll need to expand to one of these locations, which means it's a good idea to push in that direction with your main army and bunker/siege up the other side of your base.

What I did was mass vikings (obviously), and then transition into upgraded bio with siege support. Mercs help. I got siege breakers and one or two siege tanks to bolster them.

After the first infested base is down, the second one that gets infested is to the south. Head there immediately with your vikings (should have like 5-7). Kite back the mutalisks one at a time and try to pick off brood lords while massing up marines/medics/marauders/firebats. Be wary, there's 1-3 hydralisks. After the brood lords are down, a-move your army into the infested base. I put a bunker and two tanks at the north entrance while doing this to defend attacks from the north base.

At this point, I went to the newest infestation, which was to the north I believe. I bunkered up the south entrance, salvaged the north bunker, and pushed to the north. On the way to the 3rd infestation I killed the zerg base on the north side of the map and expanded there. Making it a planetary fortress should be enough defense, if you don't have it perdition turrets work fine.

As I was taking out the 3rd base, the 4th infestation site started to spawn, so I went up there and took it out before anything was up. That site got infested again later, but I was able to clean it up with a handful of units and actually save that base

After the 3rd/4th infestation bases were down, I had like 100-125 supply and was able to basically just a-move into all the other bases and win. I continued clockwise around the map. Occasionally your main will get attacked, make sure you have a couple units there. At worst you can just fly your vikings back to save it. The most important part is taking out the brood lords with your vikings first.

After I got about 12 vikings I stopped producing them, opting instead for all bio since they were 2/2 (max upgrades for that mission I believe).

Hope this helps.

Once you get 3 or 4 Siege Tanks + a bunker up at each choke to your base, it is really easy to defend. I massed Marine/Medic/Viking and just went destroyed. It isn't a good way to get achievements because of the passive style though.

I built nothin but vikings on brutal and won. Take you first vikings and kil the infested area, keep building vikings. Take your vikings and kill the top base, while still building vikings. Build more vikings. Kill everything, build more vikings, victory!

Beat this on brutal first try by massing M&M with upgrades, didn't build any other units. Build up a force then move south when you know you have enough to wipe out first infestation before it spawns, after that hold off for a min or so and then wipe out the south base. By this time you should have enough to hit the upper infestations when the start to go live with a new force. By the end I was at like 200/200 just pure marine + medic.

What's stopping them from going to get them first? The missions to get them aren't that hard--especially the last one, since it's a base-less mission and what units you've unlocked is irrelevant.

You have the option to do missions in a different order. If it gets you unstuck, why not do it?

I believe you can actually stop the infestations from happening or at least that was the case for me. The zerg needs a drone? to create the virophage and they seem to be transported through the overlord/overseer. Also there may be some sort of order that they come in. I just made viking/hellion and put it in each place until i made a large enough army then a move win

This mission is really easy with vikings. Just mass them out of a starport with a reactor. Kill the flying units and then land to kill the ground units. There really is nothing more to it then that. I was able to protect all of the settlements. In my opinion this is one of the easier levels.
edit: repair after every battle.

Get ghosts, upgrade them, start the mission, snipe overseers, NUKE.
When you notice that you are starting to run out of minerals, mass marines and a couple of medics, then kill the northernmost expansion. then, mass marines and ghosts, NUKE. Kill the southernmost expansion last, because ghosts are pretty useless there, as they seem to mass overseers.
The attack forces don't have detection with them which makes this extremely easy.
Note that this takes alot of time to do, it took me more than an hour, but it's pretty sailface(I actually wrote that by mistake xD)*.

if you want to beat this mission, it's pretty simple. You can take as long as you want and just keep stopping their infestations. If you're going for the achievement I'd recommend mass viking. With 2-3 seige tanks and 2 bunkers defending your base.

2 Starport + reactors made it easy for me to mass up viking, then I just handled everything with the large mass

I did this mission by making nothing but Reapers and using 8 or so vikings to snipe mutas. Everything the zerg has on this mission dies to mass reaper. It's really quite glorious.

The thing is, people aren't doing this mission. They chose the other mission. Then they go to mission archives and do this mission so that they can finish all 29 missions and get the achievement. When you redo things in the mission archive, you don't get to use all the units you've unlocked, only a handful. So you can't just say, go get this.

I chose to protect.

Need a lot of Vikings to do this one. The protoss won't really attack you directly until you engage their ships. They use a lot of carriers as raiding units, and Vikings are the best units to shoot them down.

Haven's Fall isn't the one with the Protoss... That's Safe Haven.

For Haven's Fall, I massed Vikings off of 1 reactor'ed starport. Use them to clean out the infestation immediately to the right and any new infestation attempts. Clean out the mutas first, then the brood lords, then you can land and take them out with very minimal losses. Of course, repair between each fight. I think I wound up with about 30 by the end of the mission, which is way more than you'll ever need.

Marine/Medic totally dominates everything else in the level. I think the 3 "real" zerg bases have a bunch of spore crawlers and no brood lords, so the vikings weren't the best choice. I just walked in with 20 or so marines with stim and 4 medics and it cleaned everything out easily.

So far, this has been pretty much the easiest mission for me... MUCH easier than Safe Haven to get the Hard achievement on it. The only semi-annoying part is when the first colony in the bottom left gets taken and you don't have much of an army yet, sometimes the virulator can finish before you can take it down... Of course, they always go in the same order so you can actually go and start taking it out before the game even warns you that the zerg are attempting to overtake that camp.

so i'm not sure how the tech works since i came back to this one after finishing the campaign, but if you have banshees, they are beautiful here. about 6-8 banshees and a bunch of vikings, and the most dangerous units (broodlords) can't even hit you. two tanks and two bunkers at my base was enough to fend off the infested folk.
My hatred for [banelings] is way greater than my compassion

I got it yesterday... One time, I saved camps like 8 times, but they keep trying to reinfest the same camps and it also told me 4. I had lost one camp to infestation. When I did it without losing a single camp (ie: there were 5 colonist camps left on the map), I got the achievement.

I think it's just that the wording for the achievement is a bit ambiguous.

This is an amazingly easy mission if you have science vessals (do all the protoss missions asap for the research) I just massed vikings with a few tanks and 6marines+2 medics in base for defence. Had 20+ vikings backed by 6 vessals. When a new town is being infested, there will be nothing on the ground that can shoot up until infestation is complete. Just be on top of getting there, clearing out all the air, and then land nearby to walk in (landing in the middle loses you a viking or 2 to ling surround) I then just cleared out a base between each infestation, simple and easy...

To get the achievement, you need to prevent the Zerg from completing any more hatcheries at new settlements. You don't need to wait for them to attack 5 times.

If you have banshees this mission is a lot easier because viking+ a few banshees is both highly mobile and hard for the zerg to stop. Don't forget that your mercenary camp can drop anywhere on the map by setting rally point, so if you find yourself in a bind you can summon mass mercs to kill off the hatchery before it comes up.

I went mostly vikings, they take out the first base easy, the second base you need mnm support and just landed vikings. After that mnm+vikings ftw. Always immediately defend any settlement with like 5 vikings at least, easy way to get achievement.

I played this mission on brutal, and it really felt like playing on casual... Seriously, I lost like 5 units. Saved every single village.

I had Banshees, which were rather important. If you have those:
Make a few more Vikings while clearing the first village. Start making a few Banshees. Generally you don't ever need much more than 10 Vikings and 5 Banshees, but you should get more and more of them anyways.
After clearing the first village, fly to the bottom left and grab the bonus gas there. Repair if necessary. The next village should be to the bottom right of your base. You should have at least 1 Banshee by the time it's under attack. There are only Lings and Roaches on the ground so you will be able to clear them easily.
Make 2-4 Bunkers and 1-2 Tanks in your base for defense. I only was attacked very lightly though.
Later on you can just cloak and snipe those infestation things because usually there is no Overseer around. Keep that in mind if you are far from the base when it's under attack.
Once you have enough Banshees to safely kill single spore crawlers (5 should do already, but 10 is better of course), you can start attacking Zerg bases. I suggest to start at the bottom, then the right and save the top base for the end (seems to be the one with the srongest defenses).
If you have a good reason to disagree with the above, please tell me. Thank you.

I built about 10-15 Vikings and about three Ghosts, actually the evil ghost ones. That was my intercepting army. Everytime a new village was infested I took my Vikings and killed the overseer, so my Ghost could nuke the village ("Thanks Raynor, for saving us by nuking our village" >).
Then I built a lot of Marauders, Tanks and stuff to wipe out the Zerg bases with support of the Vikings. I recommend to wipe out the Northern base first so you can crab the minerals.

I beat this mission on Hard first try with only vikings and a small defense force. Got all the achievements as well... just prioritize saving the first base, then save ever base after that. Every time you save a base, fly back to repair.

I had tanks, marauders, medics, and vikings for this mission, and that's all I made.

just finished on brutal with house call achievement, 5 or more rax pumping pure marine medic with upgrades, had maybe 5-6 vikings the whole game. just a-move your marine medic ball around facerolling everything with stim, simples.

Ok, I did this actually REALLY easy on hard, while also picking up the acheivements to protect 3 and 5 settlements. TL:DR Mass in your base and nuke the new infestations.

It took me a while to figure out how to do it on Hard, but basically you have to keep pushing and keep killing stuff, don't slow down. Basically what I did was I would set my MM army outside a infesting place, run in Vikings, shoot a couple times, then run out. The mutas would follow the Vikings outside where the marines could kill them, then send in the Vikings to kill Broods.

The actual bases are pretty easy to kill with just MM, even on Hard, and they don't have any air units as I remember so you can drop down your vikings to provide support. Tanks are too slow for this mission if you don't have the really big transport (and even then you don't really need them for anything).

Having one of the big transports from zerg research really helps you respond to infestations quickly.

Vikings actually outrange the mothership, so just wait till its over a patch of forest (so it doesn't warp in units) and go nuts on it after you clear all the bases

Pretty sure the fall is the zerg mission. In this case simple two bunkers and four tanks to defend your base. Put a reactor and pump out vikings nonstop. Everytime a new village is getting infected take all your vikings and attack. Clear out the infestation and then go back to get repaired and attack the zerg bases. Extremely easy.

I didn't even need to use Vikings at all during Haven's Fall. Spectres + Nukes for preventing infestations and M&M for base wrecking made the mission a cakewalk.

Massing Vikings, with a bit of static defence is an easy way to win this. Get 20+ Vikings and nothing can stop you. Just make sure you take care of new colonys being infested first, and then the zerg bases going in the order North, East, South.
Survival is winning, everything else is bullshit.

This mission and the counterpart are easily completed with a small Bio ball and straight Viking reactor pump with maybe the odd Science Vessal, even on Brutal. For some reason they made it so straightforward to just mass the new unit.

This was exactly my strat, was one of the easier Brutal missions for sure.

I didn't complete it on my first try because I was trying to be cutty, losing Vikings early, making other units, blah blah blah...

That was all a mistake.

Seriously....
1) 2x reactor Starports
2) Mass as many vikings as physically possible
3) Roflstomp everything

I think at one point I had 60 vikings? Might have been 55 or 65, don't remember.

Just clear out the air, then hit assault mode and watch shit get mowed down. Doesn't even matter if it takes them forever to find spots to drop, you just eventually cover half of an entire zerg base (when killing hatcheries). Colony infestations are a joke, you won't lose a single unit.

I think one or two of the hatcheries I did lose significant vikings, but it didn't matter because that completes the mission, and I had 60+ anyway. The initial landing is when you'll lose forves, don't worry. Once they start clearing landing zones it's all downhill.

I want to say I just did this mission and was incredibly passive.

I teched siege tanks, and built bunkers with warpigs constantly moving them further and further north until I took out the primary exp (This took a really long time as I was nearly mined out) I was max upgrades and had a lot of tanks. Expand and build more tanks and bunkers at the double choke. I didn't defend any colonies but I jsut wanted a victory on Brutal. just constantly building, salvaging, and moving tanks worked well.

I had a force of about 20 vikings and 5 spectres. The vikings were used to snipe overseers and the spectres were there to mop up/nuke.
Where ever you go, there you are.

you dont really need anything else other than vikings for either side of this mission.

cleansing mission, mass vikings. destroy purifier, mass vikings.

although with purifier on brutal, the purifier will warp in 4 carriers and a iirc 6 stalkers when you attack it, so be wary of that force.

same here. I've been completing all the missions easily on hard but this one I just can't seem to grasp. It's kinda hard to keep all the infestations down, and if one gets up too long your screwed.

edit: picked protoss side.

Oh man that side is a joke. Just mass vikings. 6 will get you through early, 15 will prevent any attempt to infest.

For the zerg bases just make a funball of whatever units are available, then throw your vikings into the mix after the initial push.

Zeasy.

What really helps with this mission on brutal initially is sending your Vikings to the southwest immediately and picking up the gas canisters, then sending them far east near the middle colony for additional two gas canisters. This will enable you to build a (tech)reactor on all three of your starting buildings, pump out a couple tanks and marines for D and a bunch of vikings for O, while your SCVs can focus on minerals.

You can clear the first infestation with your three vikings immediately after picking up the gas, and hopefully have a couple extra out in time to snipe the overlords en-route to the southwestern colony. Also SVs&+100 energy research make the whole map really trivial.

Brutal wasn't any harder than Hard regarding this mission.

All you need to defend your base is 1 bunker, 1 siege tank, 2 turrets.
Mass vikings with reactor and take out fresh infestations by cleaning up the air and then landing outside the walls and a-move towards the center.

After you have a giant ball of vikings, all you need to tackle the high-ground zerg bases is 2 siege tanks with your vikings to slow-push in and land your vikings after a landing zone is cleared.

If you have Banshees from the Supernova mission, this is a cakewalk on Brutal. Especially with Tech Reactor for double Banshees. Just keep pumping them in even amounts and A-click on every base and you'll roll over the map.

Mass vikings and mnm, Use the vikings to clear the air (and land to kill the corruptions if there's nothing else), and mnm to mop up anything else. Just chase the infestations around and hit Z bases in between.

You don't really need anything besides marines, medics, and vikings. And you can probably skimp on the ground forces as well just to make more vikings.

u need nothing but vikings in this mission. its like tutorial for vikings.
just make und upgrade ur vikings. if u have regeneration its fine. if not, send ur vikings behind other vikings if they r attacked and send them to base to repair if they r red.
if u mass vikings u will have no trouble to prevent any infestacion. therefore u will need almoust no defence at ur base(s). a bunker on both entrances and 2 missiletower at the south entrance will be enough.
build fortres if u expand.
kill upper zerg base fast u need no more than 15 vikings for that. just land all vikings and go in.
let some vikings in the air at bottom zerg base. about 5 in air rest on land.

if u fight against protos its almost the same. there u will have to snipe airunits colosses and to attack from highground if u can. most important is not to lose vikings! and protect settlers from carierattacks because u will get lot of resources for that. its good to kill protosbase at the bottom as soon as u can. because there r the most attacks on ur base from.

and dont waste ur time and resources for other units. they r just not fast enough for this mission! its all about mobility and air supperiority! and they will suck against broodlords and carier anyway.

I just massed marine/medic, made a few tanks and got a shitload of vikings. Whenever a place was going to be infested I just sent a bunch of vikings there and killed off muta/broodlord and then just landed to kill the infestation.

Then I sent my Medic/marine/tank around to mop up the zerg bases with my vikings. It was pretty easy overall IMO. Tanks weren't even required and on my second playthrough, I thought Hellions were the better choice.
