I've done it with different tactics on multiple accounts (helping some friends) 1 - first I just chocked one entrance with buildings, tanks and turrets while pushing with marines + medics on other side... 2 - using barack (lift off to give vision) and laser it 3 - choking both entrances and building multiple CCs with scans (if you have it ofcourse) and using scans for vision... this version was easiest to do since you didn't have to worry about losing barack
notice : once you destroy production buildings there won't be any attacks coming from that side any more... so it gets easier and easier with time

I mostly burned stuff down with floating buildings + laser drill until the base was weak enough to storm it with MMM. The base to the right seems to be the weakest, and the top end of that base is especially vulnerable. You definitely should expect to lose a lot of spotters, but at least defending your base on hard is easy.

Did this on hard with just a floating barracks. Float it to the very left and there's a cliff there, the probes keep re-building the structures you destroy so you just have to target every building you see. Also you can float it to the very top after that, above the nexus there are many cannons to destroy which can't target the barracks, only void rays can so be sure to keep an eye on that.

I found it odd that people were having trouble with this one but I guess I just got lucky with my tech. I did this on brutal using specters to spot buildings. I used a Hercules transport and 1 specter and just flew it up to the bottom side of the base. Used the drill to kill any cannons that could detect the specter and then just dropped him in the back. Make sure he's set to not attack. Then just move him up and keep shift clicking stuff for the drill to kill. You should be able to take out the entire base pretty easily. Then after that it's just more of the same with the other bases.

Fly a barracks into the edges of their base, target stuff with the hotkeyed laserdrill, rinse and repeat ad infinitum (or till 50 )
Edit : I see that's allready been suggested many times, soz!

I think this was mission 8 or so for me, now I'm on mission 16 and I don't even know what a spectre is. I didn't have air to spot anything so had to use buildings.

As may have been mentioned before. A mix of tanks and infantry is good but most improtantly you need to use the beam in your attacks on both his units and structures.
|
All I did to get this on Brutal was float Barracks over their bases and use the Drill on the buildings, took a lot of Barracks. Then when the units started to group up I killed the higher priority ones and then continued on. The Base on the right side of the map is the smallest and when you destroy it units stop massing up there.
edit: Didn't have any air unlocked (Did this mission 7 or 8th into the campaign).

Finished this one easily today by having a few vikings go around the outskirts of the enemy bases to get vision of buildings and then I destroyed them with the laser drill. Usually the Protoss rebuilds the buildings lost quite fast so you can place one or two vikings at different places and just destroy the buildings as soon as they are being rebuilt again.

The achievement says "Destroy 50 Protoss structures in "The Dig" mission on Hard difficulty."
From what i understand u can kill the structures with whatever way you like.
I think i didn't get the achievement cuz they disabled them while i was playing. (I saw the message when i exited the campaign later)

Personally, I just floated a CC around to kill stuff with the drill (didn't do all the buildings for the achievement, but the same concept should work.)

Finally succeeded at this last night, also without any air units. I put 8 tanks at my north ramp and all the rest (15+) at the south ramp to help me expand, built up as much MMM as I could, supply capped, mined out both bases, and used the laser diligently to make sure I didn't lose any forces. With a proper mix of 2\2 infantry and 2\2 Siege Tanks, I was able to struggle up the ramps to get vision and then start firing the laser drill at pylons. Having Orbital Command for this mission would be absolutely godlike, I would have made 4-5 of them and earned the achievement with the Laser alone. Vikings would similarly help out. I didn't think to use a floating barracks cuz I never stopped pumping units. All told, I was able to utterly destroy the Tal'darim on this map, with about 400 HP left on the artifact shrine.
Having a small squad of reapers to snipe High Templars helped as well. One storm in your infantry ball and you might as well try again, you aren't likely to survive long enough. The Tal'darim pump units non-stop out of every building and they replace everything you destroy as soon as they are left alone, so if you make a half-assed effort you won't get them. It's only necessary to kill 50 structures on the entire map, which includes the pylons and photon cannons at the artifact shrines. But if you're a real man, you'll wipe the Tal'darim off the map.

Use the lazer drill and float buildings or vikings over to them and blast them it's how i did it on brutal. You can do the same on hard etc it's not a hard achievement to get just hotkey the lazer drill imo also aim for the pylons first to stop production. I don't think there are probes to rebuild on that level i forget.

I just standard tank-pushed one side with like 8 tanks and a MMM ball.
Worked marvelously.

It's quite easy to do on hard, either with a bio ball or sieging their base.
The easiest way to do it is actually to use the laser while attacking to kill big units AND buildings.
|
Wow fuck this mission, I finally managed to get the last achievement but in doing so I basically had to sacrifice my base.
Would have been much easier if I had Vikings...ugh.
|
I did it with pure tank + marine&medic. With only the stim upgrade because im saving up credits for the achievments xD
Wait until you get a 200 psi massive tank army, move out with some floating rax to give vision and reinforce with pure M&M ftw. Also use a lot the laser on enemy units and buildings so the mission doesn't end too quickly.

I was initially banging my head trying to get this done. I was committed to getting everything done on Brutal (even with my less than perfect skills, and wrong upgrades means the late campaign became impossible), and I just couldn't do it. There might just be too many Collosi or Immortals or a strong ground presence, but the really irking thing was that I sent my 200/200 army into the base and that choke and ramp just devoured me. Seriously.
After thinking about it, it was much easier. I then found out if you clean out every Protoss on the map Matt Horner chimes in and says "Look's like they weren't a match for our firepower, the Taldarim are in full retreat!" That was fun. he he.
Get a fast expand with your first 400 minerals and have your initial squad cover you. The extra resources really help in the mid game. I got tons of marauders and marines and medics with merc marauders and merc marines with bunkers and turrets and 8 siege tanks at each entrance. Place the Siege tanks right at the base of the ramp (just a little farther so you are not in range), and send in your bio ball. (I sent at about 180). The marauders tank a lot of hits and deal with the ground, and I have plenty of marines to kill off the void rays (the really big air threat) while they are still on the ramp. The 8 siege tanks placement was crucial because they did loads of damage while not taking anything while I continued to pump MMs up that ramp. It's more about position and if your tanks are in the battle otherwise it becomes really hard. Once the initial cannons and the initial ground force has been decimated, your bio ball can march in and do the rest.
