Easiest way to get this is to never leave your base - requires Orbital Command, so try to have that first.
Start with defenses and economy - 2 tanks and a bunker by each ramp. Then turrets - add about four to six in front of your base. Be sure to have front-line SCVs to repair damage at all times. Add a bunker to each ramp. Three SCVs per side for repairs. Build armory and research ground weapons throughout the mission... then armor (but not necessary).
Blast the giant walkers any time you see them.
Now: Build a second command center somewhere in base. Then a third. And a fourth. Multi-select these and bind them to one key (1 in my case) and bind the laser to another key (2).
1 C(scan) click, 2 A(attack) click. Gone. Take out the entire base toward the right (east) of the map, and then take out both Nexus in the other very-large base. They will rebuild, but they are a little expensive.
Remember to go back to defending your base with laser often. Once right base is gone, you'll eventually stop getting attacks from it - and if you choose you can build 3-4 more command centers there as well. Now you get 8 scans and 8 destroyed buildings per 50 energy made by each command center.
In fact, if you're careful, you can take out 100% of all protoss. The trick is to not let the door get down to its last 2500 or so, because then protoss will warp-in for free and start the rush-to-the-end portion of the script.
Once both Nexus have been blown up a few times, they seem to stop rebuilding them. Kill probes. You can get 2 probes per scan. Once there (and they may try to rebuild a nexus at this point, but they're so easily killed this way) you can destroy all probes. No probes, and no nexus = no rebuilding. Take out all factories, then take out all threat-units up top (for me the walkers, void rays and immortals were highest, plus a templar or two) and now you're just mopping them up.
If you can get to 8 command centers, even maybe 10, you can have the laser OFF the door full time.
Mop them up... go get the tech from the level too. Finish door. Win.

It's not easier than never leaving your base
For what it's worth - once you pick off the last protoss structure, the game auto-wins regardless of the door's status.

Build 3 barracks, float em along the very left side of the top left base. once you float it behind where the nexus is, go wild with the drill. Theres a cliff there so you dont need to worrt about raxxes dying.

well i did this the old fashioned way, went in with bio ball and just wiped out toss. Problem is that i killed every single building and still didnt get the achievement. Is it bugged or smthn ? Do you need to kill 50 buildings with the laser? It doesnt say, i killed some with units some with laser. No more protoss, and i didnt get it, gg. Ok so i started over, sniped all the taldarim with barracks floating, till i won the mission, still didnt get the achievement. This is annoying.
|
I did this by taking the expo on the right side of the main base and made like 5 CCs Floated them around and sniped cannons and pylons all day
|
Easiest achievement ever. You just expand, go 2fac + 2rax (1 reactor 1 techlab), cover the left side with tanks + bunkers + scvs + turrets, macro + upgrade, lazer any unit that might make a dent in your numbers. Don't even need to micro, a 2base economy is more than enough to just walk your army freely and destroy everything if you just don't forget to siege every now and then.

Chain scan the protoss base and use the laser to kill off buildings. Worked great.
|
well, i did it now on brutal without killing any structures, and when i completed it, i had the achievement. I guess bnet was somehow bugged and didnt update it correctly for me, so gg for 3 hours wasted and killing the map 3 times. 3rd time i even counted 100+ smthn buildings destroyed, was great fun.

Well i made a 200/200 marine medic army .. then after they all melted i realized i needed a new plan. I didn't have any air units or scans so i simply floated my factory and cc's around and just used the laser drill to kill buildings + any units attacking the buildings.
It is time consuming but very easy compared to what some others have suggested. Also you really don't need any tech whatsoever.

Yeah pretty sure scan/drill is the easiest way to get the achievement.

The mass marine + medic strategy works just fine if you back them up with a few tanks and use the laser to help. The floating buildings takes WAY WAY longer in my experience.

Agreed, I just finished this and it does suck because I have no tech, and you have to constantly shift the laser to the immortals, I got pretty impatient and attacked with a LOT of tanks at one point, but even then the protoss will blow you away pretty quickly. Just be patient with building flyovers (if you lack tech) and be on the ball with your laser targeting and you'll be fine.

I went with marines medics tanks vikings, 2 barracks 1 factory 1 starport, used laser drill to help take out colossi occasionally
|
I made 5 command centers, then scanned, and killed pylons and cannons only. (with the shift+attack command and the drill)
|
My solution was kind of boring. I tanked/turreted up, then got a few vikings to sneak up to above the north base. I used the laser to kill 3 tech structures, which the Protoss promptly threw back up. I just kept killing those 3 structures and got the achievement.

I used wraiths to spot for the laser, I'd done the mission that gives wraiths previously but not the viking one. As noted earlier, wraith vision is about the same as cannon range so it's tricky at best to do this since the bases are ringed with cannons. Sometimes you can find a sweet spot where you can just see a cannon but it doesn't shoot, but this requires restoring a lot of save games to get just right. If you fly the wraiths up the path of the laser beam to the top of the map, then fan out to the east and west from the top of the map, it seems a little safer for the wraiths to spot from the top, especially to the west there are some pylons and non-cannon buildings that can be spotted and lased, and the West base keeps remaking the buildings allowing you to kill them over and over again which is the easiest way to get the achievement.
It's important to start this achievement at a relatively early point before the door gets too low on hitpoints or you run out of time to complete the achievement. I started when it had about half of its hitpoints left and this gave me enough time even using my slow tedious method.
Of course it's important to continue lazing Colossi and Immortals whenever you see them, and, as noted earlier, you can use the laser to laze stalkers and zealots too just to buy time to keep from completing the mission too early before you get the achievement.
Also, tanks and a buttload of turrets seem an adequate defense. I'm talking like around 5 or more tanks on each side and 5-6 turrets on each side. The turrets at the edge help take down Colossi too, and annihilate the warp prisms as they come through so you take essentially no damage from air units. Laze pesky voidrays when you see them to keep them taking down your turrets. With this kind of defense I never had to expand at all.

With vikings this is the easiest achievement ever.
Just fly 4-5 vikigns up the far left side of the map and then along the top edge. At the top, there are a bunch of cliffs your vikings can fly over and give you sight. The toss keep rebuilding them too.
You need atleast 4 vikings. There are some stalkers there and they will kill your vikings. With 4, 1 or 2 of them will survive the trip upwards (you just need 1, because once on the cliff your vikings are safe).
Anyways, once its there, just start sniping buildings. Easiest thing in the world.
Without vikings, I think you just need to bust in with siege tanks/MMM. Do it ASAP before the big units start to come out (colossi).

Mass marine + medic + marauder, build a second Engi bay and get the extra attack and armour upgrades (mass marine + medic + upgrades pretty much kill anything in any single player mission)
Move out into the Protoss base, keep an eye on the mini map and use the drill hotkey to take out the dangerous units (the ones that get a blip in the mini map) and just have 4 or so siege tanks and a small marine ball to defend at each entrance.
Your upgraded marine + medic + marauder ball will smash everything if you have enough. Even colossus if you target fire. Very cost efficient.
|
Two ways to achieve this:
Manly way: If you are good enough, you can simply time your forces to rape a sizable base with Marines + Marauders + Medivacs with VIKINGS. Vikings are CRUCIAL to rape collosi- your only true threat. The rest of Protoss forces are eaten up by stim. Once your base is fortified enough to be on autopilot (10-12+ tanks with walls & repairing SCVS and anti air), it's easy to move out.
Wussy way: Don't beat the map until you get Comsat. Scan + destroy buildings with your beam. Boring.
