This is a snap everyone. What TrevorJK wrote earlier, however let me add some more details.
Simply build +1 extra baracks at the start and reactor add-on both of them while building SCVs continuously and mules. Pump marines and max 4 medics. Build a fusion core and build 1x hercules. Once you've pumped marines and 4x medics to the full capacity of the hercules (this should happen about 10 seconds before the fire reaches your base), lift off all capable base buildings.
Board all medics and marines in hercules. Move to the bottom right of the map by creating waypoints that have a line at the very very bottom of your screen, no changing course. You will take minimal ground fire but should be fine. Now move just above the Photon Cannon platform with a grey statue micro-ing to avoid fire. Just load save if you take too much damage. Here there is a space where you will not be shot, about 5 meters above the grey statue platform. Wait until the fire is nearly at your ship and flying buildings on the far-right of the map. Sounds extreme, but its a snap. Just requires one thing: Patience.
Just before the fire reaches the artifact structure, drop all your infantry at the base of it and double-stim while killing the two cannons and 1 archon you will encounter. Next, immediately focus the artifact tower whilst pulse stimming. Don't worry your four medivacs you were told to fit onboard the ship will heal you up.
This mission was hard, but I beat it only using Wraiths and Banshees. I built an armory in the middle of the map and upgraded ship weapons to 3. I was able to clear out the level the regular way without flying around everything with this strategy. All you have to do is snipe the photon cannons and nothing can see you. Just keep flying back to your base when its under attack, you'll roll the army no matter what.
It took a long time, but I finished it with mass banshee. Just build as many as you can before being overrun, lift you barracks into the bottom right corner (carefully), and wait until the supernova has destroyed most of the main protoss base. It takes some timing, but kill off the temple with all your cloaked banshees before the fire wave reaches it, but has destroyed most of the protoss units.
I might be missing something here... But Tanks are good?
Like no joke, just imagine you're playing a ladder game, 1/1/1 on your opponent, and win.
You could do it with pure Banshees, but if you're not comfortable with doing that (meaning you can't pull it off), add Tanks and Infantry to the mix, and just bust your way in.
You guys do know how to blitz this mission right? (didn't read the whole thread)
I think I made 4 banshees 1 dropship and got enough money for some repair, an engineering bay and a few turrets.
Then you fly your buildings banshees and drop ship across the map (through the protoss main) letting your factory and barracks tank damage for your CC/drop ship (which is carrying your scvs). It will probably take a few tries to find the right path through the base. (I think there is a video on youtube that can help with this).
The cc needs to survive (so you have a building) then behind the protoss main you build an engineering bay and turret push towards the artifact from the back up on the ridge behind it. (to rid observers and pheonix). Then you just kill the artifact with your banshees.
Buildings can also be floated on the far right of the map so you don't necessarily have to have your CC survive just the drop-ship.
I had the Wraith as an option, so I just massed banshees, until I had killed the first suggested base. Then started producing Wraith for anti air and in order kill the Warp Prism at the 2nd base quickly. After that it's all about dodging storms. I had 4 Science Vessels for heals tho too.
... Now I feel mad at myself for ever trying to get it legitimately. Then again, in my hard playthrough I bought tech reactors instead of drop pods. Well, good thing I happened to be at 23 toss research when I read this.
I did it using mercs, marines/medics/medivacs/marauders and a few siege tanks, along with a couple of banshees. Wasn't too difficult, you just have to have decent micro. Try dodging the storms and spreading out your units a bit. Make sure you get the mineral/gas caches spread around the map. You also get a bunch of caches after killing a nexus.
Tanks, vikings, and let's go with banshees. If you're having trouble with base migration and basic resource multitasking, delay the mission until you can get auto-enhanced refineries (especially with Advanced Construction SCVs- just drop both refineries at the start of any mission really and team-build them in 20 seconds and you never have to worry about SCVs again aside from queuing up to the 24th SCV) or even just depot drops. You can wait until you've done enough missions to unlock 3/3 basic upgrades- those will help a lot, especially if your tanks have their credit upgrades as well.
The banshees are introduced in this level as a way of scouting an opponent with cloak and destroying small outposts. They're a good unit to attack colossi and immortals with if they storm your front. Focus on obtaining about 14 tanks at the start of the game. Use mercs if needed to boost your army to obtain the early relic. Your macro should be focusing on base defense and banshee squads, and your micro should be focused on taking the banshees and sniping everything that's not nailed to a photon cannon (and then sniping the photon cannon.) You want enough banshees that encountering 2-3 units that shoot up at a time isn't a problem- don't try to raid their base with 4 banshees like you do at the start. And don't be afraid to bring them back for a repair job every now and then! Especially if you have the dual-fusion SCVs, flying some banshees in for a 10 second repair is a much better deal than losing them and having to re-make them.
It's worth rebuilding reactors and tech labs every time you move. The first move is a bit janky since you might end up in that corridor at first while trying to clear the first real protoss main base, but once you've built up that critical mass of siege tanks holding the protoss off should be no problem.
You have bunkers unlocked, right? Well it doesn't even matter which upgrade you got (Shrike or Reinforcement)- make a few! Turns out when you have 14+ tanks raining death on you, stopping to take a swing at a bunker usually ends in disaster- immortal or not. You can salvage them when you move, and they can house Warpigs and Hammer Sec. Mercs (and be supported by dual-fusion welder SCVs.) Terrans are all about working together.
If you're still having trouble, than spam saves. Save after every attack the Protoss make, save after every successful raid, save after every successful move, save after everything of note. If you die to an attack just as you raid, you can re-load with "warning" of the attack and arrange for defenses accordingly.
Or you could get drop-pods and nuke them. But you skip out on the Protoss research that way (or do you? I bet you could drop-pod your way onto the research artifacts as well...)
By the time i do that mission, i have the automatic refineries, so i build those on all the gases so I have the extra gas. Then heaps of thors w/ banshees and marines. if the thor dies it's 200 gas to fix it up and i usually have alot of spare gas doing the mission like this lol
