Have a lot of trouble with the Supernova level on Brutal. The one where the fire moves across the map slowly and you get very few mineral resources, u have to keep moving your base. there are tons of protoss bases and so many units.
How do you beat this level on brutal. uve been trying banshees and marines and medics, hasnt been working. too many protoss units. any suggestions?
I struggled a bit with this mission too, finding that straight up busting down the Protoss is futile. What I eventually did was slowly amass an army of infantry and banshees while mining out the bottom side of the map. Then I crammed my army into the bottom corner and waited for the fire to kill the majority of the protoss defenders before moving in through the southern entrance to take out the artifact.
The fire actually halts just in front of the objective for around 10-20 seconds before proceeding forward, allowing ample time for a group of units to sneak along the side of the protoss base and snipe the building.
mass banshee then add vikings later on before the last base, when dealing with the templars just fly straight past them so the storm wont hit very much and after they are out of mana clean them up go repair and repeat, dont think they build any more templars then the ones they start with.
I went with medic, marauder, banshee, viking, and one raven. I used marauders to tank damange while cloaked banshees DPSed. I kept around 5 vikings for all the anti air. Near the end I got a raven for PDD which allow the 5 vikings to clean up all the scouts in their base. However, I didn't have time to get 2 of the relics that weren't on the way
1) Mass MMMM 2) Load everything into hercules/medivac 3) Lift buildings and hide towards bottom right (kind of by the relic) 4) Wait til the last base is almost completely destroyed by fire then clean up & kill the the final artifact
lol i get to the second expansion you have to take because of the fire and just turtle and make some banshees with tech reactors and mass 20 then move on the outside of the map and just take out the artifact then it goes to cut scene without all the fighting
lol ,just mass banshees, and fly everything to the right side of the screen, where the 4th relic is. then let the fire burn, until it starts hitting the temple, and u just fly in alllll of ur banshees and do as much dmg as u can. even if all them die. ull win because the temple starts burning earlier than ur own buildings, and its a close starport vs tower. I had a test. if just fly starport to the right side, the temple will have 30 hp when ur starport dies (temple burns first)
All I did on this mission was get more and more banshees. Like every mission on brutal, pull back wounded units, repair them up, and go again. Get some tanks if you're having trouble and snipe away turrets. Eventually you'll have so many banshees the only threat is air, which can't see you. Get some vikings towards the end and you're done.
- 10-ish banshees - A Hercules with filled with MMM - 4-5 Vikings
Also, if you get Ravens, Point Defense Drone is incredibly useful. Basically yeah, move to expansion near the bottom right ASAP; the cannons in between go down easily to banshees & a PDD over a Hercules dropping.
Mass forces and attack whenever you're out of money or the fire is perilously close to the Temple. There's a carrier that requires the Vikings; otherwise it's pretty straightforward. The MMM does a good job of distracting archons/stalkers/etc. from focusing on your Banshees, which are the real DPS-dealers on the temple.
As an aside, the vikings help with recovering artifacts. To collect them, send out a raiding party of banshees + 1 viking, snipe out the cannons/defenders with Banshees, have the viking transform, pick up the artifact, move on. Cake!
What i did was mass banshees and use my 2 merc viking squads for AA, i added on a second starport aswell at the beginning first to make 2 medivacs to transport SCVs and later spamming banshees
just keep microing so you don't lose many banshees, watch out for storms
to bust the last toss base i made a mer compound and just got one of each merc and charged in with my remaining army
i had to save/load when i did a good base transfer
I just massed banshee's and cut through in between the 2'clock and 3'clock killed those cannons and moved into the empty space. Then went for the kill on the artifact. (I had like 20/25banshees) Be careful of storms and archons.
Tanks make the mission easy, which is pretty much the theme of the campaign. Get some banshees to help with the immortals/colossi and dump all your minerals on marines, then just roll across the map with siege mode.
In Utter Darkness was a cakewalk compared to this mission. I just can't seem to find a way to make it so that all of my units don't die, and i don't run out of money.
So far, mass banshees with 4-5 vikings with MMM didn't work and hiding on the side didn't work. I mine out the first three bases but by the fourth I just run out of steam and cannot take it with such a weak army.
My main problem is that I have to use my banshees for everything. They HAVE to clear out the next base full of colossi and immortals because my ground forces get raped. While they're out, I get attacked and have to run them all the way back to deal with it, then run them all the way back to the offensive, and I just run out of time.
Haven't used mercs yet though, I think that's where I'll go next.
OMG, I just got shafted again. Mercs worked great, but right as I killed the temple I got "The artifact has been destroyed by the fire."
Merc Vikings make this mission a hell of a ton easier. I make an extra Rax then mass Marine+Medic+Gol+Banshees. You should be able to call in two groups of merc marines and vikings before the fire kills the merc compound. I slowly pushed along the bottom of the map, lifting and moving expansions as each got mineral-mined out. I didn't have auto-refineries but if you make a refinery at each base and get the vespene pick ups you should be well on gas.
A couple of hax strategies have been listed here. I was struggling with it and rather than brute forcing it, I ended up flying over the last base with a viking/banshee airforce and cleaning out the ledges. You can land siege tanks there and 2 of them can burn through the objective pretty quickly. I took a screen shot, but it wouldn't paste. Some people might consider it cheating. I don't though... I think letting the fire destroy it goes over my lame scale though...
Using fire to wipe out most of the base works as well.
I did it with pure air units. When you first clear out the initial landing site, wait for the zealot rush. You should have a bunker up by then anyway. Constantly pump out banshees for now. After you fend off the zealot rush, take your 4-5 banshees and go kill the top left protoss base before the fire consumes you both. send an scv or a marine and steal the resources left after you kill the nexus + pylons.
Clear out the base in between your inital base + the one suggested by the AI. Get 1 medivac and summon war pigs. Always, always when you transfer to a new base, first thing you do should be putting up a bunk and getting war pigs into it.
When you clear out the 2nd base, transfer everything where the AI suggested. Add a 2nd starport. Pump viking/banshee. After defending each enemy wave go a little south-east of your base and clear out the protoss there for a 4th landing site. send your unused rax and factory there. plant 1 of them down there and send the other a little east to a secret loaction under the protoss base.
When the fire finally reaches your main base in the middle of the map, it's time to roll out for the artifact. Hotkey all your banshees/vessels or raven to 1 hotkey and all your viking to another. You should have around 11-ish of both vikings and banshees if oyu macroed right. Now go north east of your base with them. You'll find 3 stalker + 2 canns there. Suicide your war pigs + medivac on that and kill them with banshees. After you clear that, there is a protoss base north of it. Snipe both warp prisms powering the canns and all the phoenixes and scouts that will come. With the banshees kill the few stalkers and archons that will get in your way.
After that just bypass the whole base. In between the 2 protoss bases you'll find a small air area for you to regroup in. Kill the scouts and prisms powering the cannons once your ready. Now you're behind the temple itself. Beware, there will be phoenixes coming at you still. Around 3-4-5. Kill them with the vikings and then the pylon powering the last 2 cannons. Now just focus fire on the temple with your banshees from behind so the archons won't be able to hit you. You're done.
i dunno i just pushed with marine-medic-marauder-medivac and 6 tanks through the top. I tried pushing through the middle the game before but it's harder cause u have reinforcements from the bottom flanking you to worry about. Was real easy tbh.><v Felt exactly like your standard multiplayer tvp push.
I hid in the corner with a hercules drop ship with 10 marines 5 marauders and 3 SCVs in it + 5 banshees and 2 vikings. Just as the fire was about to pause i stormed in, dropped behind the artifact, took out the 2 cannons there and let the fire do ~80% of the damage for me while i "hit last" so the kill counted for me (instead of the fire which triggers a loss) good times^^
Through the entire campaign i put 1/2 bunkers at each entrance to my bases with a siege tank to defend against raids + a turret for each bunker if they had air, it works great.
For this mission you just mass banshees and merc vikings, but the bunker + siege tanks work good as a little defence
Wow some of these solutions are so clever, I wish i'd thought of those.
Anyways I failed 3 or 4 times at this mission until I realized the mercs are fucking awesome. I always made sure to keep that merc building up at each base + massing Banshee + Marine/Medic out of the regular barracks. Once I was at the last possible base to mine i'd purchased all the available mercs so they were all out in the shop + mass banshee and some other stuff i could scrape together. Oh and I had like 20+ scvs in the end so I sent em in too
Required some microing, the solutions just going pure banshee and hide in the right hand corner seems like a much "easier" way to do it if you don't like the stress
Wow, I actually considered this mission pretty easy.
What I did:
Made 3x racks and leave them without add-ons at the first base. Do nothing but defend until you're mined out while building marines/medics. As soon as I got my hero marines/marauders, which should be just a minute before your base would catch on fire if it was still around, I would go clean out the 2nd location.
At the 2nd location I would get 2x tech labs and a reactor to get more marauders into my unit comp. I would mine for as long as possible obviously and leave when the fire started catching up. By this time I had enough units to easily clean out the 3d and take control of it.
At the 3d I made tech labs/reactors aswell, to replenish the number of units I lost the most. As far as I can remember it was marines dying to storm. Although at this point the mission was cake so I decided to throw in a few spectres and nuke the protoss' final stand. GG MMM(edic).
Marine/Medic/Tank/Banshee. Don't lose ANY banshees bar 1-2. You need to build them up so they can snipe anything that's a threat to MM. Use tanks to kill cannons once you take the middle base. Dodge any storms or more likely use banshees to snipe them. Once you get your tanks up and running its an easy push into the protoss bases. Kill most of the stuff under tank support and clean the rest with MM. Don't risk banshees to cannons they're for important stuff like colossus (1t run away your MM here) and storm (same deal) Like 2 rax/1port/1fact was enough to macro. You always move out after killing an attack.
I honestly found the TvP Missions really easy. Marine medic + whatever support unit is appropriate. Maybe it's because you have to be agressive, while I'm not a natural turtler so I found TvZ turtle missions harder. (Utter darkness was like me running around with a deathball so that's like PvZ normally anyway). The dig was a pain though, got too impatient I suppose and didn't use my laser enough.
In Hard mode, I think there is only one observer above the temple, so you could snipe that with a few vikings and quickly destroy any cannons (and then the temple) with banshees after running along the side of the map. Would this work in Brutal?
To avoid storms just flynear the top of the map with banshees+wraiths/vikings, go to right top corner and then down to artifact. There are two or 3 cannons and some air units. Let banshees destroy building and wraiths/vikings defend from air attacks.
base 1 i pushed with just banshees, added some vikings and put them right outside base 2 and then retreated whenever a scout attacked to the vikings, and base 3 I just ran my banshees and vikings to the top right corner, you can shoot the artifact temple and be out of range from the army at the third base from there, makes it way easier
You just need to slow-roll it and build up to about 100 ish food to break the last protoss base. Its similiar to the other missions on brutal you just need a 100+ food army to break it/win
Banshee + siege tank mercs = easy win. Throw in extra medic/marine as a mineral dump and you should be fine. I actually didn't realize I was busting the main Protoss base when I was playing the mission. The Xel'Naga vault just appeared in front of me and I was like oh.
At first I just massed ton of banshees and Science Vessels. After the second base air starts to come so start massing banshees + vikings with more vessels. Vessel is probably on of the most OP units in the sp. So mass banshee + sv + vikings got me through that mission easily. SV just repairs so damn fast.
To clarify I didn't make anything else than Banshees, SV's and Vikings and yes I play on Brutal.
Edit: The last base you just have to micro your banshees out of the storms and target the NON hallucinated units, and micro vikings that they shoot the air from the back and not getting picked off by stalkers. SV repairs very fast so storms just tickle a little.
Banshees are good for about half of the map. Towards the second half, though, the protoss starts getting a ton of units that counter banshees (Hts that spam storm before you can snipe them, obs everywhere it seems, scouts and i think carriers too). For me, right before I reached this section I switched to mass thors and busted through with those. Also, try to expand to all the low resource places and mine them out before the fire comes.
I had so much trouble with this I ended up doing all the other missions first, so that I actually had tech reactors HAHA. Double production MMM hulk smash.
I massed banshee/viking and had no trouble until the very end. Even then I just got a bunch of vikings to snipe the 2 obs they had, and moved the banshees around above the artifact temple so ground units couldn't attack them.
I beat this mission on Brutal after having some trouble and reading the cheesy strats here. What I did was:
Pumped a few SCVs for gas economy Pumped banshees and 2 vikings from the single starport As the fire wave got close, lifted off all buildings and sent them towards the bottom of the map, then towards the bottom right corner.
On the way to the bottom right corner there's a group of units guarding a tech thinger and an expo location. I cleared it with cloaked banshees, and had to micro a bit to kill a scout with the two vikings. My CC went weird and got damaged, then I landed it and tried to build an SCV to repair it but maphacks got it killed. Then at the bottom right corner there's a few cannons powered by warp prisms (and maybe stalkers too but I forget) which I had to clear with banshees, microing so none died. After you get all your buildings and units into the bottom right corner, cheating brutal computer sends warp prisms and lands immortals, senties, and zealots under your buildings. Focus the senties (obviously) then pick off the rest. You can cloak to avoid damage but I preferred to soak it with the units as I had Regenerative Biosteel and would just regen, in order to keep my buildings at full HP. Eventually the drops stopped happening ( I don't know why, perhaps I killed all the void prisms?) and I could wait until the fire wave came.
First try, I waited for the firewave to take everything out, ran in with banshees, did some damage, the banshees then burned to death, and the firewave destroyed the temple before my Starport. "The Artifact has been burned by the fire!" And I lost.
Reload, this time not waiting too long. I waited until the cannon closest to the bottom right corner was destroyed (or unpowered I forget) and then proceeded. I had to destroy one cannon in order to shoot safely. I'm pretty sure the temple was being burned, but perhaps the artifact was in the East part of the temple. (Maybe you need the last hit? Who knows..) At any rate, I was able to do this with only 6 banshees. I believe all it takes is good timing. Good luck.
When I did this mission on hard (no viking yet) I had a really hard time doing the last push into their base, they always overwhelmed me even when I had mined out almost everything before and spent all. Then I found out attacking just a little bit at a time would send only a few units after me which were quickly killed. When doing it slow it was really easy to do something I had failed horribly at 5 times before.
Don't know if they're smarter on brutal and aggro more but I'll try the same.
remember you don't actually have to kill any toss. with good enough micro you can just snipe the building by sneaking around to it with enough banshees. defend long enough to get the critical mass, then head on out. I don't believe the toss has observers, if they do, mix a few wraiths in, scan and snipe
A lot of these missions are doable by just not fighting and sniping the objectives.
did it with pure vikings and got the save 2 outpost achievement on brutal, get 2 armories, start weapon upg asap then get some scvs and build a bunker for first attack, then get more vikings, go kill the carriers just before they hit the camp, then you come back just in time to kill the colossi, when u pick up ressource, start lvl 2 weapon and level 1 plating, take your vikings to top right base and hit the prisms/ phoenixes, land on high ground, kill nexus. Mass vikings now with all your cash and go around 2nd protoss base (snipe the warp prisms) +1 colossi, land on high ground and kill nexus. Then, kill 2nd protoss attack and go back to your base to defend those 2 carriers and colossi, go str8 to third protoss base start off by killing warp prisms, carrier, colossi and void ray with your super range, then go from behind, land and target nexus, fly back, send all your scvs to 3rd refugee camp repairing your vikings and massing turrets with the cash you got left, the mothership should arrive just in time and you just attack it you have so many vikings it goes down pretty fast

Wrong mission. And you can't land. Archons wreck Vikings at the third base.
I just went mass banshee with some vikings. I pushed in to the back of the base behind the vault and killed it from the back. Pretty easy mission on brutal.
I went only banshees until landing in the third base, then got banshees, vikings, and some science vessels (if you have automated refineries going at your bases as you abandon them, you end up with a lot of gas).
14 banshees, 6 vikings and 3 vessels was enough to easily overtake the last base on brutal. I also have the regenerative mech zerg research, which helped a bit in healing up. Keeping the vikings alive is extremely important as you'll face several scouts and phoenixes at the end. Also there is an observer sitting right on top of the objective but if you have a vessel or raven you can detect and kill it.
Why even go MnMnM is beyond me. You can totaly cheat this mission like every other. Get armory asap and head towards +3 air attack. have 2 starports with tech reactors (or with3-4 techs) and just pump banshees. As the fire moves use pure banshee to kill the first base and keep mining. Eventually youll have 40 banshees and you can just right click the target and dont worry about any enemies. When the toss storms just move out of the way and keep shotting at the target.

Because not everyone plays the entire game, then plays this mission? Stop coming up with ridiculous solutions that involve getting the maximum upgrade technology. If people had that, they wouldn't have trouble in the first place.
Is the cheese strategy to hide a bunch of banshees and buildings in a corner until the map burns out and then snipe the temple? Sounds doable.
I just made a bunch of banshees and then a few vikings for the scouts and carrier. I had a couple siege tanks and marines to defend against raids, using the banshees and vikings for the colossus and immortals.
I saved every time I transferred bases because I'd lose concentration and fly my banshees right into a storm every now and then. After hitting up each base attacked the protoss camp with banshees, flying around the edges picking off what I could before moving in for the kill. It's annoying having to rebuild your tech lab each time you move. I think I had science vessels as well by the time I played this mission; unfortunately they just die if you cloak your banshees, so I didn't use cloak at all. Just don't lose any banshees and you're gold.
I believe banshee/viking is the easiest way to do it. My first time beating it I did banshee/viking/tank with a couple of marauders and medics. Breaking into the first base is the hardest part of the level for me.
i did what has helped me through countless of campaign missions on brutal: mass medic marine. for this mission, i also pumped out a couple of banshees with excess resources (only 3 barracks without addons producing). had no trouble with any part. high templars are a bitch, but there are a thousand ways to deal with them. moving out of the way, for instance. if you know where he is, send one guy in first to lure the storm, then send the rest. or, of course, straight up mass producing a new army.
thought this mission would be hard but it turned out really easy.
M&M all the way, didn't bother to get banshees or maradeurs or anything else, just upgrades stimpacks and medic upgrades are super strong for their cost ye HT raped half of my army in the end but i stimed again and focus fired temple pretty fast
There is nothing in this map that will stop any half-dedicated m&m or tank force.
A few tips: - Bring detection for illusions :p - Kill the base north of you before it gets killed by the fire, get ressources on the ground and from the dead nexus. - Land your buildings as far right as you can whenever you stop. - Tanks > cannons and small armies with illusions. No need for merc tanks, any will do. - If you just keep whatever kind of army alive you will have a small passageway to the objective with perhaps 1 cannon 1 archon or similiar surviving to engage you (with the fire to your left smoldering the last base).
One thing that significantly helped when doing this mission was using buildings to make a choke point for whichever way you might get attacked from and then enticing enemies to come attack through it to weaken their defenses before your assault. I just used triple barracks MMM with a few tanks, set up a concave outside my artificial choke, and then pulled with either siegemode, a lone unit, or my banshees.
Also, cloaked banshees can solo clear the first two bottom minable areas before attacking the first real protoss base. For the first minable area just kill everything and then use a few marine+medic to kill the remaining scout at the relic area. As for the second, snipe the pylon from the southeast. I usually clear the first area after the 2nd attack wave and the second while im mining at the first and have a decent sized mmm concave.
After you clear the second area, you can also freely attack the probe line of the first protoss base which makes some of the defending units come try to assist and also die.
Marine/Medic/Marauder, get upgrades. Throw a bit of storm dodging and HT/Colossus sniping into the mix. Didn't really seem that hard to me. Banshees imo don't work well because of storm and Phoneixes.
You're making it really hard on yourself if you're not going tanks. Pump marines, medics, a few marauders and tanks. Get the marine, marauder and tank mercs. Move to the top right base, real easy with tank mm pushes. Then get the viking mercs, you'll need them to kill the carrier.
Sorry posted wrong mission :/ but i did this one easy, when you are at the last base, i assume you shouldn't having trouble getting there, you only need 8 or so banshees, you can cut through the protoss base a little bit higher with almost no damage to your banshees, you just take out the cannons on the cliffs and then you can kill off the temple easy, you can bring a few vikings to kill the scouts/phoenixes.
Like people said, a Science Vessel or two and then mass Banshee. Spend excess minerals on Marines and some Medics. Use the ground forces to defend during Banshee pushes and to secure the Research items. Use the Banshees with Cloak to obliterate the enemy base. They do so much DPS that they demolish almost anything. In the last base, bring Wraiths (if you have them) or just a marines to clear some of the air units. Use mules to mine out bases quickly and the SCV-less gas to keep your gas up. This is if you have these options.
Phew,I was able to beat this with 1 viking and 6 banshees that I managed to sneak in to the top right corner. After I sneaked them in,I saved the game and just loaded that over and over until I got godly micro and a good strategy. In the end,I sniped the 2 warp prisms with my viking, killed the first photon cannon and THEN the pylon(which powers a second photon cannon) behind the temple with banshees, then waited for the fire to kill the observer thats there.
I tried killing the pylon first but the 2 photon cannons crushed me
requires: hercules suggested: orbital command, medic upgrades
scv/mule/reactor on rax, fusion core when starts. pump a few medics and a few marines, when fusion core finishes build a hercules, banshees are kinda useless because they'll have detection. when fire gets near, lift off buildings to bottom and start sending them > but not too far so that they get attacked by toss. load up all units including scv into your hercules, scv will be used as hit takers and repairers. take your hercules to the top and then >, you will get hit a few times but its ok sicne your hercules has lots of hp. drop right on top of the first cannon behind the artifact, and then kill that and the 2nd cannon. when it is clear, pick up and drop where the 2nd cannon was to kill the pylon from there. then, pick up/drop where that pylon (SAVE HERE) was and have your hercules spot the high ground (hold position is useful because it will try to run from air units) however, your herculues should survive because it has a ton of scv repairing it, after you take out archons/air/ whatever kill the artifact. my first time aruond a ton of collosus came because i guess i was too slow so thats when i reloaded my save. remember to have hercules spot the high ground for you
I'm trying this MMM/Banshee strategy everyone seems to rave about, but my marines get melted by colossi whenever I try to attack the first base. What am I doing wrong?

Im having the same problem. I eventually tried the strategy where you hide your buildings/units in the bottom right corner and let the fire clear out the protoss base, but either I would go too early and my banshees would die, or I would wait too long and the fire would destroy the artifact. Im thinking about just trying a mass medic/marauder drop from a Hercules.
Also, I was reading some posts where people claimed they were still able to win even with the fire attacking the temple. Do you just have to make sure you get the last hit, or is the artifact located far right enough to give a little extra time?
I didn't build any additional banshees, just went mnm tank and pushed along the top side. Just keep the mnm mostly back and let the tanks (especially the siege breakers if you can keep them alive) take care of all the of dangerous stuff.
For the relic, a cheap way to do it (like you can do with any relic) is just to save energy on your orbital command if you have it, scan and mule the exact relic spot. 100 energy and no units (the mules doesn't count!) lost to extract any relic later on in the game.
I don't understand why people are having a bunch of trouble on this.
Basically, you just take banshees + a few wraiths, fly around the top, kill 3 cannons near the thing you need to kill, take out the scouts with the wraiths, and then cloak and kill the thing.
I completed this mission in like 15 minutes using this strategy, its super easy and requires no thought or skill whatsoever.
Colossi never really did anything to my M&M, there needs to be at least 2 for them to outrace medic healing anyway (assuming you have the medic heal upgrade, which you should if you're going M&M). The only time I ran into two at once when I didn't have a huge ball to begin with was at the first protoss base along the bottom--but at that base you can snipe one of the colossi with banshees easily.
I just went pure M&M except for my starting banshees and didn't really have any trouble. Psi storms can potentially make for a bad day, but templar are only in the latter parts of the mission and by then your bio ball should be big enough that unless you mismicro pretty horrendously you can take the hits.
I did media blitz first, so I pretty much just went mass thor/science vessel. Used the bansheees and 300mm cannons to get rid of hardened shields and put automated gysers on every base after I cleared it. CI cleaned up the last base with six thors, two siegebreakers, 3 hel's angels, a pair of science vessels and the banshees I got given, lost only the infantry they gave me at the start and one banshee. It's pretty easy once you get the knack, you just have to watch out for the attacks which can be pretty brutal (I got hit by six immortals at once at one point >.>)

Haha! Wow, that's really clever. I wish I thought of that.
I mostly used banshees like most people and had 2 drops with siege tanks. After many tries I saw a pit to the north of the temple. I dropped my tanks there and some SCVs and built a bunch of turrets to cover the tanks. I'd run in my banshees every now and then to see if there is opposition and if there was I dragged them close the cliff edge to greet my tanks.
I had siege tank +40 damage and turret splash. For this mission.
You can MMM tanks slow push every thing to the top right. Ofc the banshee taking out unnecessary damages and incoming pushes. I dont get why people dont try playing on a hard or normal course, to get the achievements, then play Brutal with the whole map in your head.
my standard strategy: 1) get your protoss tech up to science vessels 2) make 2-4 SVs 3) non-stop banshee production, some M&M or vikings to back them up 4) dodge the storms
Ridiculous mission... I don't know about you guys, but I had trouble even getting to the second base. Which is ridiculous. I would lose my whole army, rebuild with even less time, and get stomped.
So, I decided to cheese. I built 6-7 Banshees, 1 Medivac and 3 Vikings by the time the fire came, and stockpiled at least 300/300. I sent all my units and buildings straight north, then east, so they arrived in the top right corner. You have to do it really slowly, snipe a photon and a prism, but don't get too eager, you need to keep at least 4 Banshees alive. By the time I got in the corner, I had a Command Center, and a Barracks left. There is JUST enough space to fit the Barracks, so I landed it, and massed Marines and Medics. The Marines and Medics can take out the Photon Cannons, if you drop them properly, and most importantly, act as anti-air for your Banshees, because Vikings kill too slowly. The fire came, and destroyed most of the Protoss, and I hid my Banshees at the extreme edge, so that I could pick off the base without being seen. They saw 3 of my 4 Banshees but I didn't know where his last detector was, but the last one, still cloaked, managed to pick off the temple. Ridiculous mission, but that's just me.
I just made an early ebay, mass ugpraded infantry while going 2 rax reactors pure Marines/Medic (need all armory upgrades on them). Proceeded to rape everything with them (esp when at 2-2 upgrades), piece-of-cake-style. Only difficulty was avoiding a few storms when attacking the last base.
Pure M&M pwns basically everything in most Brutal missions up to that one at least.
This mission was easy for me. I beat it on my first try... I just pushed with siege tanks and vikings. Seemed like the natural thing to do since I was "pushing" all of my buildings anyway.
On August 06 2010 14:41 Nenari wrote: Mission was tough until i went banshees + vikings + science vessels. Moved along the bottom route. Pretty easy by then. Still, watch for storms.
i think the top route is easier because of the line of cannons in the top right corner of the map is easily taken out and give you free shots at the artifact.
but yes, with banshee, viking and vessels, i literally 1a'ed to victory from my 1st base on brutal.
On July 29 2010 08:14 bowserbowser wrote: Have a lot of trouble with the Supernova level on Brutal. The one where the fire moves across the map slowly and you get very few mineral resources, u have to keep moving your base. there are tons of protoss bases and so many units.
How do you beat this level on brutal. uve been trying banshees and marines and medics, hasnt been working. too many protoss units. any suggestions?
Mass banshees, tanks and marines. Always look to clear out a base so that once the fire starts getting near your base you can relocate.
On August 05 2010 11:07 btlyger wrote: I don't understand why people are having a bunch of trouble on this.
You sure you did it on brutal? I did that and they still see right through the cloak which makes me think they have observers there. I didn't have orbitals or science vessels available.
Just use the same strategy you do for every other mission. Lots of medics and mercenaries. I just defended my moving base with my ground army while banshees harassed where they could. Crept along the map, no problem.
Took me a few tries, but the hardest part was actually just taking out the 2nd base. I was trying to go in with stealthed banshees, take out the 3 pylons, and then the rest of the base. It wasn't working since I only had like 6-7 banshees with energy at most.
When I first went up to the north base, grabbed the mineral/gas pickups, built 2 tanks + MM, and siege pushed the 2nd base in with banshees just supporting, it was much easier.
Once I had the 2nd base, I mined that out, and a little bit from the minerals just northeast of the 2nd base, I was able to amass like 10-15 banshees and 7-8 vikings.
It was trivial to basically abandon my SCVs, tanks, and MM (used them to help a little with the north base, clearing it as I could), lift off my buildings, and send everything to the top right corner.
There were 2 cannons, 2 scouts (2 warp prisms) at the top, easy to clear.
I was going to wait for the fire, but I realized I was right on top of the relic anyway, so I just went down and used my vikings to take out warp prisms and scouts. Banshees killed the relic in like 10 seconds.
I didn't have to deal with the main base around the relic at all, or any High Templars. 0 storms the whole time.
Just be careful, Immortals and Stalkers will come from both directions at the 2nd base (from Northwest and Southeast). Keep your tanks and MM in position to defend both (abuse Bunkers).
I had trouble on this one until I went siege tanks (and went marine and medic). Using mercenaries such as the Hell's Angels were very useful. I didn't build any air units (except one science vessel who just followed the tanks around).
I also only used three tanks as well. (I rebuilt the mercenary compound and got the siege tank mercenaries at the second base. They are favorite mercenaries!) This mission is frustration because you constantly have no time. But if you inch forward and forward with tanks (and a marine/medic ball to guard), you will do fine.
Only at the very end, at the artifact, was there serious resistance. After so much of my army being wiped out by psi storms, carriers, archons, and whatever else is being thrown at you, I still had a couple of tanks and a few marines survive which proceeded to destroy the artifact. Tip: at the end, don't focus on wiping out the protoss base. Just inch forward with tanks straight to the artifact. I took the bottom route.
After capture the 2nd base, i just mass Banshee and Viking up to about 15 each. Then lift off all the building except the Command center (i need the scan ability) and make them fly straight to the temple, the enemy should focus firing on your buildings. In the same time, i fly my cloaked Banshees and vikings to the back of the temple, deal with all the cannons and flying units. Then scan for all the observer (i believe there're 2 of them near the temple), told the vikings kill them, after that, just make your banshees chill and fire the hell of the temple out, the protoss can't do anything.
i went mass banshee then hid at the upper right corner with my commandcenter (it was my first try and i was desperate to not lose)and waited until almost all of the protoss base where gone then i went in and killed the bulding but im wondering what would happen if i had just waited..... would be awesome if you win anyways
You guys are all thinking of this way to logically. xD i beat this in under 12Mins. Here's the exact build i did. at the start make all of your SCV's go onto gas (3 each) by this point you should have researched the orbital CC so drop in a mule and start to build 5-6 SCV's on the mineral line. (keep dropping in mules when avaliable) after that build 3 vikings and hire 1 of the elite squads of vikings (Merc.) coninue to mass (out of only 1 Starport with the tech reactor) banshees and nothing else. leave the ground forces you get at the beginning to help defend against the incoming protoss. get 1 sciense vessel as well for minimal healz. Clear out the small resource patch to the right of your base (with the banshees) take an SCV and move it to themiddle of thep patch and build an armory. Now I had the xtra life upgrade when reaserching armour but if you had the attk speed up'd then research that first. (in the armory) you should be able to pull off 3 upgrades if you do this near the beginning of your build. as soon as you have around 10 banshees move them and every base structure that can fly, to the VERY top of the map. then keep you forc together right outside the main protoss base. (science vessel is slow) as soon as your in range you should have the elite vikings take out the warp prisms that are power the cannons (they have 11 range :O)when thats done make sure you continue to move your forces up until the 2nd prism repeat prev. step and then just RUSH your forces into the very top right. (You may want to put your vikings in one control group and your banshees in another) control the banshees to attk the cannons in behind the artifact and the vikings to obliterate all air units (this doesnt have to be done with that much micro, all you have to do is let the banshees take the hits (or cloak them if you want w/e doesnt matter at this point) while the vikings kill the air in about 2 seconds. then just attk the structure with the banshees and land your vikings in behind it to do some xtra dmg. then grats done mission. Unless you get too close you won't even get stormed. Video to make the unit moving more understandable : VIDEO and a picture to prove my claim on me beating it in 11:19 (I can't find the last freakin reasearch) DO NOT BOTHER TO KILL ANY PROTOSS EXCEPT THE EARLY ZEAL RUSH. You don't even need to expand.http://s939.photobucket.com/albums/ad234/icy3001/?action=view¤t=002.jpg
Banshee/viking (or wraith if you want to abuse cloak more)/science vessel to just plow through everything. Just micro with some care to keep from losing units, so that you dont have to replace as many and can move your base more often if needed, and smash through the P base. You can call in viking mercs and go pure banshee/SV to make production easier.
You don't even need positioning tricks, with mediocre micro and cloak you can smash right through the P base towards the artifact.
I mass goliath + science vessel and 1a my way to victory. Throw in 2 tanks to pull mobs away from the cannon for easy killing. Everything was ezpz one you get science vessel.
i went banshee, viking, and the 2 merc tanks basically. i cleared a path along the bottom and just leapfrogged my base from one patch to another until i made it to the final one on the bottom next to the toss base. about 16 banshees, 8vikings, and 2 merc tanks EASILY cleared a path for me to the artifact. they never send any obs when they attack so banshees clean up easy, same with vikings. moving from base to base however you will lose banshees, its normally inevitable but just micro to minimize losses. so basically what im saying is dive bombing cannons pretty much did the trick for me in terms of clearing out new bases. probably couldve gotten 2-3 less vikings for more banshees but hey it all worked out. id also suggest a small marine ball to help tank for your banshees when the enemy pushes on your base.
its possible and helpfull to have all research complete before this mission so u can produce 2 banshees simultaniously from each starport. i start to make banshees from beginning and use them to clear expo in south between 2 protos artifacts and deffend my base with them. its usefull to send at least 4 scvs to gather gas and use mules to gather minerals. u should build a new cc at the expo as fast as u can too. after the left upper protos base is gone u should clear the middle protos base and expo northeast of this base and fly ur cc's over there. u should build there second starport and 2 upgradebuildings too and upgrade ur ships until the end. there u should make some vikings (8-10) and kill the protos base at southeast and fly ur buildings over there and build more banshees as long as u can. then u can wait until protos base is almoust destroyed or just fly vikings over protosbase to lure attention while killing missiontarget with banshees. u can use scan to kill observer with vikings too to make it easier.
to clean up 2 protosbases u have to kill canons with banshees at first base and then u can stealth and fly in and clean this up. at 2. base u can just kill this protos dropships with vikings and after that clean the base with stealthed banshees.
I went Banshee - Merc Viking and had a really easy time with this.(I also had regenerative biosteel already, which is great) The merc vikings are ridiculously strong and can cover against air threats. The banshees will eventually reach critical mass, and as long as you are decently careful just rape everything.
OK I admit I only read the first 2 pages of complex, drawn out and time consuming ways to complete this mission on brutal, but here's the easy way:
Just make banshees. 2nd starport at your 1st base and pump them out. Obviously make optimum # of SCVs as well (having MULES helps to get quick minerals).
When the dude warns you about impending firey doom, go and take the highlighted base out. It's no threat really just take out the pylons and cannons. Watch out for attacks on your first base though, optimally begin attacking the protoss base right after their latest attack wave.
OK, now just ship your buildings/scvs over there and start gathering/massing more banshees. Also build a single missile turret to take out pesky phoenixes (banshees can rape everything else). You should really not have lost any banshees so far, 1 max really.
Now when you're either out of res or the firewall is closing in, take alllll of your banshees and fly straight up to the top of the screen. At the very top, fly right, stopping only to destroy the cannons with focus fire. Keep moving fast to the right corner, take out the three cannons there, and attack the objective. In the top right corner your banshees are above rocks, and only the phoenixes attack them. Piece of cake. If the protoss rage in at your base, lift off your buildings to give yourself enough time to finish the mission.
This is obviously the cheap, easy way to get brutal completion. My hat off to anyone who took the time and effort to destroy the protoss.
tl;dr: mass banshee, fly up, across top to top right corner, attack objective and win
actually its pretty easy: mass banshees to the best of ur abilities, get the 2 merc viking squads out for a total of 6 vikings. then fly ur buildings to a hidden spot so they dont get annihilated by the toss ground force while ur army is away. then u take ur air fleet of banshees and vikings, fly them to the top edge of the map, then on the top edge u just rush them to the top right corner of the map, ignoring the fire from the protoss base u are flying over during this process. once u have cleared the 2 cannons in the top right corner, u approach the temple from the north and kill it with cloaked banshees while the vikings take down/distract the enemy air coming in to stop it. u might have to sometimes kill one of the archons with ur banshees.
if done the way it´s meant to be, this mission is indeed hell.
I make 2 science vessels and a split of even banshee's and vikings, fly my buildings over a ramp without many units to their base to the top right and then fly my units over, drop CC in a lower spot between both bases in the top right corner near the artifact for scan, scan and take out the observer. Go to the top right corner make my way down, take out 2-3 scouts and cannons then patrol myself in 1 clump right in range of the artifact and I won.
mass banshees, handful of viks/merc viks and 3-4 sci vessels. then hide all ur buildings floating in corner and a move your way to victory with the viks/vessels behind the banshees
The strats given all pretty much work. One thing that helps going into this mission is if you have the research (forget if toss or zerg) that lets mech regen life. Made keeping the banshees alive much easier.
Originally, I tried to mass banshees but I couldn't get it to work because i would get stormed in the face. On my second run i just massed tanks and used the hero vikings and that mopped up basically everything. Get a couple rauders for support and get those hero tanks because they are godly. I ran it off one factory and one rax with tech reactors.
This mission is a gigantic pain in the ass, so I put it off as long as possible so I had as much research/upgrades/units as possible. Science Vessels can help a lot keeping your banshees alive. Otherwise you will need scvs repairing and a few more ground units.
Orbital CC and Auto-Refinery is god for this mission. If you don't have it, that's fine but it'd be much harder.
Heavy Banshee is pretty much the way to go at the start. Just make nothing but them. Once you have a bunch, use them to slowly pick off the units on the path to the south, there's some minerals and a relic there. But don't go too fast as the Protoss will launch some attacks; I think 2-3 cloaked banshees at home with your standing army will do fine. There's also a random scout guarding the relic, but with cloak, you can just destroy everything else and finish the scout off with some marines or vikings later on when you come to claim the nearby resources and the relic.
When the fire almost gets at your base, your mercenaries should be ready, if you have the Viking merc that'll help a lot. If not, just hire random ones to give you more cover power-- you do not want random crap coming in and slaughtering all your scvs/buildings while your banshees are fighting. Go wipe up the base to your east with Banshees; don't bother sending any ground troops. You can use your ground troops to retrieve the relic which is kinda up north if you want. In the meantime, float your CC to the south minerals and mine for a bit. If you have Orbital CC this will go along very well.
Once you've cleared out the middle Toss base, move your mining to their base instead. You should really make a few extra vikings/banshees, but from now on, save up your resources for mercenaries. You should use siege breakers to take out the cannons to the next resource area quickly because the fire will be on your ass soon, move out to the next resource node and do not set up base here; you're just here to exploit the minerals and you will be leaving very soon.
Hire as many mercs as you can, marauders, marine mercs are awesome to absorb some damage and kill the southern base. The relic is near the far east, use a siege tank to take out the cannons and lure anything else out. Then just send a marine to finish off the high templar and grab the relic. :p The enemy is gonna still get storms on you, but fortunately that group of mercs will take the damage instead of your banshees and vikings. Oh yea, and watch out for the odd carrier...
Move everything to the south, and set your production buildings all the way at the edge of the map /w addons.Once the fire gets near the final mining area, siege just below the ramp, wait a bit to clear out the front defenses, and rush in with everything that's not a banshee. Suicide your vikings up north towards the relic to clear out any phoneix/scouts/obs nearby and everyone else should kill the cannons. A lot of your shit will die but If you manage to have a few cloaked banshees left, you'll take down the relic pretty easily-- most of the toss are fried anyways by now.
Overall, focusing on mercs helped the most. Guess the cost of those addons do add up.

uhm... and what about the phoenix, high templars and cannons? well... which difficulty did you play at?
An easy way to do this is mass up vikings and banshees (no ground units). Keep hopping bases and making units, you can easily defend your bases with cloaked banshees and vikings.
When you are ready, you can fly your forces towards the 4th relic and then straight up and demolish the artifact.
If you want to be really cheap, near the end of the mission (when the fire wall draws near), lift your facs/raxes/starports and fly them to the right of the map (where the last relic is) and just wait along with your banshees and vikings. The toss base will be demolished, including his HT's and most of the units. Right before the fire wall reaches the artifact fly your banshees to demolish it (and the cannons shooting at you) and your vikings will easily cover you from the few remaining protoss air units.
First base: Pump banshees non-stop, be proactive with them and clear the first 3 relics and the bottom expo by the time the second attack wave comes around. You'll have to pull back to help with the first attack. Obviously repair any weakened banshees (<- important) Expo to the bottom if you want, or just transfer buildings over when have to. Should be 4 attack waves overall.
Second base (bottom right near second relic): Move here when you have to, keep pumping banshees. As soon as you land on your bottom part here, start clearing out the main protoss base. Float your factory up to the north so you can get advanced warning on when the protoss moves out to attack you. You'll again have to do picking attacks here and bounce back and forth between defending and attacking, but you should be able to clear them out without many troubles.
Third base (Protoss old base): Build a second starport here with reactor and start pumping vikings from this one. Use your banshees to clear out the northish expo if you expanded earlier, and mine from both these at once, if not, don't bother. Takes too long to establish otherwise. Keep up the defense while you bring up your viking numbers (Don't go crazy, 8 or so should be enough, as long as you don't lose too many being silly). Keep pumping your banshees from your first starport. Should be at a very solid air army by now. When you feel comfortable (or feel able to snipe out the warp prisms in 1 hit), start moving into the south protoss base. Clear this out and move over for the final push.
Forth base (Second old protoss base): Again here, start pumping more banshee's and vikings. Use your barracks to pump a small force of marauders if you're having trouble dodging storms, and use these to snipe them before you move in. Clear out the last relic and start moving into the main base, being sure to avoid the storms as best as possible. As said in other posts, here you can sit back and wait against the edge of the map for the fire to destroy part of the base if you want, or you can be a man and take out the base with force.
If you have Science Vessels by now, you won't be reading here for help...
Base 1 Location: As soon as you get your first base, get a few more SCVs, start producing more banshees and quickly add on a second starport (as far to the right as you can get it in your first base) keep making additional banshees. Cloak your banshees and clear the 3 nearby artifact areas. Watch the minimap, you can see a group moving out of the top left toss base, thats the signal to come home. Mine from this base as long as you possibly can. When you've cleared all of the artifact spots its time to start working towards base 2.
Base 2 Location: Base 2 has 3 pylons total, 2 in the middle 1 up north. Start in the south, cloak and snipe the two pylons in the middle. Clear the base as fast as possible from that point. Float all of your buildings over and establish yourself. By the time you've landed the flame should just about be consuming the merc building. At this point I spent mins to get the 3 merc vikings, they do wonders with AA for the rest of the mission. Keep producing more banshees and an occasional viking. Essentially now you need to clear out the spot just a tiny bit east of you (don't go too far, you'll go into the base) and then push south and there should be a small min patch there.
Base 3 Location: Clear out this min patch to the south east of your 2nd base. It only has a few cannons and units. Don't go too far east or you'll wind up in a small protoss base. Mine here for a while, land your starports as far to the right as you can and resume producing banshee/viking. Time to start clearing out the protoss base immediately to the right of you, this is Base 4.
Base 4 Location: You'll have to fly around and dodge some storms, but pretty much if you've been getting your bases fast enough and have been producing from 2 starports the whole time you shouldn't have many problems. Once you've cleared it, move on over from Base 3 and as usual put the starports as far right as you safely can. This is the final base you get, don't move out until the fire is almost going to burn your CC. Keep producing air units like mad. When the fire is almost ontop of your CC it's time to lift it. Lift your rax and fact at the same time, send them as far to the right as possible. Meanwhile just a little bit east of your position is the 4th artifact, go ahead and clear it out and grab it.
Race the clock: Now if you've been doing well you have enough forces to just outright crack what is left. Favor the right hand side as much as possible and push north through the toss base. You should fairly comfortably kill what remains including the temple. I believe I finished the mission with 8-10 banshees and 3-5 vikings and a few scvs before the fire was in danger of hitting the temple. If you haven't been doing well you should wait a little longer and let the fire do as much work for you as possible. Just don't wait too long or else you're boned.
I think this mission took me 3 tries, one time I just failed miserably, died getting base 2. Second time I died while I was taking base 3. Third time I managed to finish.
I just made banshee and some vikings, go to de bottom right where there is a relic, with at least 20 banshee, go near the edge and kill the cannon u will find, scan and kill the observer over the temple, use your cloacked banshee to do the rest. Quite easy, only problems is dodging storms really...
On August 20 2010 07:03 Kaboomerang wrote: Just Get Science Vessels+Mass Banshees+6-8Vikings, the the Vessels healing damaged banshee(get vandium armor upgrades) you won't lose any.
this. I got the attack upgrades, and I also wiped out half of the last base. to be fair, I did it with full research.
Marine/medic/viking/banshee with some science vessels works pretty well if you have the tech reactor. You just have to make it a point to kill the colossi before they do significant damage- marines will clean up everything else up.
It takes a while longer this way, but once you have a significant force, you can just roll through everything.
I've done it multiple times on brutal, but I''ve always had a main force of banshees.
It seems this mission is very exploitable with cloaked units, so I backed up the banshees with ghost/spectre and wraith instead of vikings.
You will be pretty low on money, so you can't just a-move your force in this mission and remake it if they die. Here are a few tips:
If you have orbital command, use mules to mine the minerals faster so you can move on to other mining sites more quickly and thereby having a greater force at the end of the mission.
If you went for raven use the pdd to minimize damage to your units.
If you went for science vessels, make them early on and use them to repair your force instead of scvs.
Watch out for storm! Especially near the temple at the end. If you get hit by storm I recommend you retreat and repair before going back, but try to snipe them while cloaked. As usual, near the temple try to take out the detection fast, there is an observer for detection also and not just cannons, so snipe it if you can. Also be aware of the cannons behind the temple which may provide detection to nearby units if you get too close.
Also if you feel like a baller, make a lot of shadow ops when mining the last base and nuke the temple to hell
I ended up making a whack of Banshees and Vikings, flew them to a safe spot on the extreme right edge of the map as I massed more and more. I got resources for massing units by taking easy expos. I skipped any large fights that would reduce my force.
From there, I waited until the wall of fire moved across the map. It wipes out all defenders, including the majority of those guarding the artifact. When the wall of fire did enough damage to the defenders, and was nearing the artifact (I think it even lowers it's shield), I just skimmed north along the edge of the map and took it down.
There's a blind spot if you kill all the cannons on the way to the artifact, you have to get it just right. I didn't think to take a screenshot of it.
When you have to move your base, move to the closest base, NOT the protoss base. Squeeze out 2 or 3 more Banshees then move out.
Basically I run my banshees in along the very top of the map and once I get to the far right edge, I start killing cannons along the way. Usually have 8~ banshees left at this point. 6 of them die because the blind spot can only fit 2, but the 2 left kill the Artifact before they're out of energy.
I recommend saving your game as you fly in and experiment yourself for a little bit to find this blind spot if you're having trouble doing the mission "honorably".
This mission is really, really easy as long as you're quick enough with expanding. After you kill the first Protoss base, you should always be on 2 bases. There's one right down the ramp of that base, one to the south and another one when you kill the next Protoss base. I muscled my way through with tanks + m&m, but I'm pretty sure most unit combos would have been good enough as long as you mine out the entire map.
edit: I also did it pretty early, without OC or tech reactors. This mission really shouldn't be a problem, just don't be overafraid of the fire. It's pretty slow.
Fastest way to do it is simple: Build as many Banshees as you can off of your first base (like really use all the gas, build the Starport on the right ledge of your base so the Nova reaches it last). Build maybe a bunker against the incomming forces, but with cloack you should be fine.
When the Firenova reaches your base, build Banshees as long as you can! When you run out of gas/time save the game and look for a way to the top right corner of the map (there are some cannons there so you will lose some). Kill the cannons behind the target structure and after that the target structure itself. Pretty cheesy and easy =)
I just played it with a standard tank-viking-banshee-merc build. It works fine. Don't get too many banshees; they are pretty useless I found as the tossers have tons of detection. Get 2-3expos running at once with vikings and tanks and turrets to defend. And then just slow push your way to the thing you have to destroy. Don't forget upgrades.
I did this really early so I didn't have many units and I was hoarding my money so I had no upgrades or mercenaries. I wanted all 3 Protoss relics so I could sell research for cash for All In so I couldn't use the back door exploit. After several failed attempts I ended up buying both Goliath upgrades and pushed with mass Goliaths with SCVs repairing on the final base and it worked surprisingly well.
I used a similar method for killing the structure, but I did the opposite of a speed run, really. I wanted to get all the research, so I did some base hopping.
Mined out the first base, then moved to the second mini-base to the immediate right. Didn't kill the protoss base, just floated over to the base below it. Brought marines/scvs/etc. with a single medivac. When I did this transfer, I also made a Tech lab with my Factory and made a viking during that cycle. Kept massing Banshees. Eventually, I floated my Factory at the bottom of the map and to the right side of the map to the immediate left of the last Research, bringing my Viking with it. Made a Tech Lab on the Factory, made a Siege Tank, then Siege Moded up. Lifted the Factory for sight, and the tank kills the Templar, then I just landed my Viking on top of the Research and moved my Factory a bit lower to be safe from counterattack (eventually, it was my only surviving building.)
That little spot of non-detection was such a relief. I kept microing to keep banshees alive and it was getting annoying.

same, just without medivacs. siege breakers are just ridiculous.

If you have Science Vessels by now, you won't be reading here for help...
oh i never thought of that... irradiate the hts that is smart ;D this mission took me forever omg
I had luck after several attempts with absolutely nothing but 2 port mass banshee on this level. Pumping pure banshees can get you to the last base easily because (I think) there isn't any air till the last base. After that I fly in from the top with all my buildings to draw fire, then send 2-4 banshees in ahead to make the ht's waste their energy on them, then I move in the rest of the 20ish banshees and I can take out the vault before they all die. Absurd and inefficient, but I sure felt fancy when I finally got this to work.
Banchee up as much as you can from first base. then stay south and viking up as you mine/go. get to bottom right. then go up and use landed vikings and only put them in piilot mode when u see phenioxes. scvs repair. get 3/3 ups for ship. ground ups i had 0/0
All I did was mass expanded constantly ( used almost all of the minerals on the map excluding the first protoss base, which I destroyed with the initial banshees)for awhile constantly throwing all of my tanks/thors/maraders/marines at the nearest protoss base.
Worked like a charm, took out every protoss building on the map.
Okay, on the last base I was cutting it a little close, but with revive-able thors I was able to push through anyways.
i did this mission on brutal starting off with tech reactor starport for banshee then adding in viking for base clearance. the viking banshee build is a safe bet in this mission as the viking can snipe scouts and prisms supplying power to photons. the hardest thing about this mission i found was saving banshee energy for cloak , luckily i had both viking armory upgrades so that extra range was a huge help. mercs can be helpful but after the first base dies to fire its questionable whether or not to rebuild a merc compound
what i did was stick to bottom of map , use banshee and cloak to defend first 2 waves against ur base - use banshee to snipe all protos units near first two relics , with one marauder to collect relics and run away from the lone scout near 2nd relic.
first base clearance - charge in with 6-8 banshee and viking if u have any yet. target pylon/prism and stalker first then mop up and move in SCV+structures * the mineral nodes at the 2nd relic site make a decent income site while you are clearing first protoss base *
after you resettle in the empty protoss base , this is when you want to start really adding in viking. you can use 1 starport with tech reactor if u got it , if not use 2 starport. use banshee to snipe out the photons and stalker outside of your base at the weak mineral node patch , then clear away the few archons and sentries guarding 2nd protoss base. about this time you will getting hit with a wave of immortal and sentry, so send back banshee and mop them up. collect and mass at least 10 banshee and 6-8 viking before you go to clear out the 2nd protoss base.
for the 2nd protoss base , viking makes this a cake walk. use viking superior range to bait out the scouts and snipe the prisms supplying the photons leaving your banshee free to rain destruction on the base. * at this time your mineral patches should be running out , so move command center to the patch previously guarded by the 2 photon and stalker outside your your current base * while your finishing clearing the 2nd protos base , an attack force should be nearing you from the 3rd and final protos base , including a couple scouts - a carrier , archons and a high templar. the vikings can kill the air units no problem , but the high templar is a pain so make sure to cloak banshee and snipe him first while u hit an run micro on the carrier and scouts to maximize viking air - air range and avoid archon-storms. afterwards fly in your rax - factory , and starport(s) to the emptied basealong with command center.
this part is the trickiest in the mission i think , outside of the final protos base is another relic - gaurded by photons and two high templar each with 200/200 energy. the way i handled this was to take 3-4 of my viking and run them past the high templar repeatedly to get them to use up thier psi storm energy. after they each do storm twice , roll in your banshee and snipe pylon thenthe templar.
with your base set up add in tech lab/tech reactor for factory-rax and your starport(s) viking banshee is still your best friend for the upcoming part but adding in additional meatshields helps. mass some marine-medic , a couple tanks , and a bucketload of vulture from factory. when u get a sizable force * example of mine : 4-6 vulture , 10 marine , 2 tank , 10 banshee , 10 viking etc * ready to attack final protos base.
you can use this chance to fly in your buildings to the final protoss basebefore your push as a distraction to enemy archon and photon along with your SCV in your ground force as a meatshield. make sure to group your units , especially your vulture, along with viking and banshee , marine and tank. when your up the ramp to the final base , use viking to snipe the first prism supplying power to the closest photon - use cloaked banshee to attack archons and stalker - and vulture to spider mine the areas in front of the 3 protos gateways. position your marine+tank near the vault to begin seiging it while you micro viking and banshee on scouts-pylon-templar. any protos units warping and passing by the 3 gateways will be be hit with mines leaving your army free to seige the vault
a long post i know but if it helps anyone stuck on this mission then awesome. my walkthrough may be weird but i found it was super easy and effective.
build up a forces of banshees and vikings; if you have the automated refineries it helps a lot. u only need to expand once; to that spot that they point out for you. once there and once u have a decent force, push along the top and pass the toss base entirely. at most youll have to endure a few cannon fire, but once u reach the top right corner then move down and take out the few cannons there. if your banshees are cloaked u can just sit there and shoot down the temple.
Either go tank&goliath with a few science vessels or bioball, the banhees you get at the start are enough, just have patience there is no need to rush, the fire is slow as hell.
Also dont forget to get upgrades, just build the bay/armory far to the right, it wil have enough time to get at least 3 upgrades out before the fire reaches it.
Also if you go bioball, watch out for high templar (either dodge the storms or snipe the templar with your banshees)
ps. regenaritve bio-steel is the most imba upgrade in the campaign.
I went science vessel + banshee with a few vikings for anti air. When it comes to destroying the vault, just take out the closest cannon and scan so you can snipe the observer that is hangning ontop of the vault with your vikings. Then cloaked banshees take out the vault in just a few seconds. =)
Build about 5 banshees+5 wraiths, get a vessel/raven, load 5 SCVs in your CC, lift off, go to the bottom of the map, go to the far right of the map, have your banshee and wraiths escort them, at the bottom right, there will be a cannon or 2, + some defenses and an observer, focus fire wraiths on observer and banshees on cannons, cloak them all and cleat the rest up. Half the time a carrier will be there, kill it with wraiths. unload SCVS, repair CC. Bring CC to the VERY FAR right.
Next, go get a sandwich and a soda, watch something on TV, and come back a half hour later. The fire will kill the temple before your CC.
This is how i did it the first time. (well, the general idea, not the exact same thing.)
I went banshee/viking/marine/medic. The only real problem should be busting the last base. Just attack from one side with your mmv, and the other side with your banshees. Either way, you can move away from the storms and use your flank to snipe the HTs.
i had hercules for this mission, but im sure the strat is duable with just medivacs
i simply got tech on fact and got a few tanks, marines from the barack and got the herculez.
the zealot attacks on brutal comes from the top left so you can easily snipe them while theyre on the way with your initial four banshees, meanwhile i used these to get 2 of the easily accessable research points aswell.
when the fire was on the way i uploaded 4 tanks, 8 marines and 3 scvs in the herc and moved straight up and then edged by the ledge towards the right. there are a few cannons which i just used banshees to deter.
in the top right corner there is a ledge with a few cannons and scouts/phoenixes. just use your tanks to shoot down the cannons and marines to defend against the air units. if you move along the ledge you can shoot the artifact from the high ground..
same principle as with waiting for fire but only took me <10 minutes to complete
The best plan I could come up with on Supernova was to throw as many units out in the first 5 minutes that I could possibly make and then focus on keeping everything alive as long as possible while doing light production.
There's a bunch of upgrades that make this way easier. You don't to have nearly all of these but a few can make this a breeze. - Automated refinery + micro filtering + sci vessel. If you do a heavy banshee/viking army and skip MMM almost completely you can make a fair number of sci vessels for support. - If you make MMM, stick to just reactored marine/medic and mercs. - Rebuild your merc compound at least once! - If you have auto refinery, you only need like 10 SVCs. Make sure to use them to repair whenever you're moving between bases.
To do it without any cheese like flying to a corner and waiting for the wave to kill everything.
First of all start with taking out the protoss base to your north, it'll be cheaper than letting them build up and attack. Don't wait to build anything just attack with the 4 banshees, 4 marines and two marauders you start with. You should be doing that while you set all SCVs on gas, build them for minerals. Mule on available energy.
Your forces should mostly come from mercs; mercs are retardedly cost effective, I'd only build banshees and medics, and just get as many mercs as you can before you loose the building to the fire. Get as much gas as you can out of the left refinery before you lift off, you should have mined out the minerals.
Now from here I was able to push straight up through the middle base without much issue with lots of mercs and maybe about 10 banshees, it went quite a bit better than I expected, I was able to build another merc compound and get me another set of goliaths and tanks to finish the game somewhat normally (at the end after the push up to their base my army was really whittled down so I just kept to the right and focused on the temple).
I honestly expected their middle base to prove itself quite a hurdle, so my back up plan was to reload at the point where I just destroyed the very first top left base, immediately clear and expand to lower right of the first protoss relic, just right of your base, sit on the choke with my army while I build my banshees, get mercs and generally build up and army. When it was time to move my main base because of the wave I was going to take my _ground_ army north past the other protoss relic and set down at the mineral patch there. Meanwhile I would prepare my _air_ army with my expansion to fly directly east of where they are past the middle base. This should enable you to get quite a bit of resources and mass quite a bit before you have to make a move, eventually you'd just abandon your expansion south, bring up north your air army defending it, take your whole ball and move directly east, you shouldn't have any trouble decimating everything on the way to the temple with the army you should've amassed by this point.
I had trouble with the very end of this one. Basically, I could take out the next-to-last base but my forces were in poor shape and I didn't have time to rebuild. I had trouble with the artifact area (storms) and with the final artifact defenses (storms and air). I came up with a couple of solutions.
1. Final artifact. The problem here is psi storms (2 templars). I found out that you can land 6-8 vikings and take out the cannon without triggering a storm. You can then take out the templars with Banshees without trouble.
2. The Final Push. Stealth up the right side until you're in as close as you can without being seen. Drop 2 nukes in quick succession in the area of the artifact. This takes out their Templars, detection, and air and you can then pretty much bum-rush the place and finish.
It's very much possible to setup a Banshee blitz if you have some sacrificial units to draw the initial heat from all the anti-air in the main base. However, you have to set that up while defending from mid/late tech robo units and constantly relocating over increasingly fortified bases.
On July 29 2010 09:21 TrevorJK wrote: 1) Mass MMMM 2) Load everything into hercules/medivac 3) Lift buildings and hide towards bottom right (kind of by the relic) 4) Wait til the last base is almost completely destroyed by fire then clean up & kill the the final artifact
This is a snap everyone. What TrevorJK wrote earlier, however let me add some more details.
Simply build +1 extra baracks at the start and reactor add-on both of them while building SCVs continuously and mules. Pump marines and max 4 medics. Build a fusion core and build 1x hercules. Once you've pumped marines and 4x medics to the full capacity of the hercules (this should happen about 10 seconds before the fire reaches your base), lift off all capable base buildings.
Board all medics and marines in hercules. Move to the bottom right of the map by creating waypoints that have a line at the very very bottom of your screen, no changing course. You will take minimal ground fire but should be fine. Now move just above the Photon Cannon platform with a grey statue micro-ing to avoid fire. Just load save if you take too much damage. Here there is a space where you will not be shot, about 5 meters above the grey statue platform. Wait until the fire is nearly at your ship and flying buildings on the far-right of the map. Sounds extreme, but its a snap. Just requires one thing: Patience.
Just before the fire reaches the artifact structure, drop all your infantry at the base of it and double-stim while killing the two cannons and 1 archon you will encounter. Next, immediately focus the artifact tower whilst pulse stimming. Don't worry your four medivacs you were told to fit onboard the ship will heal you up.
This mission was hard, but I beat it only using Wraiths and Banshees. I built an armory in the middle of the map and upgraded ship weapons to 3. I was able to clear out the level the regular way without flying around everything with this strategy. All you have to do is snipe the photon cannons and nothing can see you. Just keep flying back to your base when its under attack, you'll roll the army no matter what.
It took a long time, but I finished it with mass banshee. Just build as many as you can before being overrun, lift you barracks into the bottom right corner (carefully), and wait until the supernova has destroyed most of the main protoss base. It takes some timing, but kill off the temple with all your cloaked banshees before the fire wave reaches it, but has destroyed most of the protoss units.
I might be missing something here... But Tanks are good?
Like no joke, just imagine you're playing a ladder game, 1/1/1 on your opponent, and win.
You could do it with pure Banshees, but if you're not comfortable with doing that (meaning you can't pull it off), add Tanks and Infantry to the mix, and just bust your way in.
You guys do know how to blitz this mission right? (didn't read the whole thread)
I think I made 4 banshees 1 dropship and got enough money for some repair, an engineering bay and a few turrets.
Then you fly your buildings banshees and drop ship across the map (through the protoss main) letting your factory and barracks tank damage for your CC/drop ship (which is carrying your scvs). It will probably take a few tries to find the right path through the base. (I think there is a video on youtube that can help with this).
The cc needs to survive (so you have a building) then behind the protoss main you build an engineering bay and turret push towards the artifact from the back up on the ridge behind it. (to rid observers and pheonix). Then you just kill the artifact with your banshees.
Buildings can also be floated on the far right of the map so you don't necessarily have to have your CC survive just the drop-ship.
I had the Wraith as an option, so I just massed banshees, until I had killed the first suggested base. Then started producing Wraith for anti air and in order kill the Warp Prism at the 2nd base quickly. After that it's all about dodging storms. I had 4 Science Vessels for heals tho too.
... Now I feel mad at myself for ever trying to get it legitimately. Then again, in my hard playthrough I bought tech reactors instead of drop pods. Well, good thing I happened to be at 23 toss research when I read this.
I did it using mercs, marines/medics/medivacs/marauders and a few siege tanks, along with a couple of banshees. Wasn't too difficult, you just have to have decent micro. Try dodging the storms and spreading out your units a bit. Make sure you get the mineral/gas caches spread around the map. You also get a bunch of caches after killing a nexus.
Tanks, vikings, and let's go with banshees. If you're having trouble with base migration and basic resource multitasking, delay the mission until you can get auto-enhanced refineries (especially with Advanced Construction SCVs- just drop both refineries at the start of any mission really and team-build them in 20 seconds and you never have to worry about SCVs again aside from queuing up to the 24th SCV) or even just depot drops. You can wait until you've done enough missions to unlock 3/3 basic upgrades- those will help a lot, especially if your tanks have their credit upgrades as well.
The banshees are introduced in this level as a way of scouting an opponent with cloak and destroying small outposts. They're a good unit to attack colossi and immortals with if they storm your front. Focus on obtaining about 14 tanks at the start of the game. Use mercs if needed to boost your army to obtain the early relic. Your macro should be focusing on base defense and banshee squads, and your micro should be focused on taking the banshees and sniping everything that's not nailed to a photon cannon (and then sniping the photon cannon.) You want enough banshees that encountering 2-3 units that shoot up at a time isn't a problem- don't try to raid their base with 4 banshees like you do at the start. And don't be afraid to bring them back for a repair job every now and then! Especially if you have the dual-fusion SCVs, flying some banshees in for a 10 second repair is a much better deal than losing them and having to re-make them.
It's worth rebuilding reactors and tech labs every time you move. The first move is a bit janky since you might end up in that corridor at first while trying to clear the first real protoss main base, but once you've built up that critical mass of siege tanks holding the protoss off should be no problem.
You have bunkers unlocked, right? Well it doesn't even matter which upgrade you got (Shrike or Reinforcement)- make a few! Turns out when you have 14+ tanks raining death on you, stopping to take a swing at a bunker usually ends in disaster- immortal or not. You can salvage them when you move, and they can house Warpigs and Hammer Sec. Mercs (and be supported by dual-fusion welder SCVs.) Terrans are all about working together.
If you're still having trouble, than spam saves. Save after every attack the Protoss make, save after every successful raid, save after every successful move, save after everything of note. If you die to an attack just as you raid, you can re-load with "warning" of the attack and arrange for defenses accordingly.
Or you could get drop-pods and nuke them. But you skip out on the Protoss research that way (or do you? I bet you could drop-pod your way onto the research artifacts as well...)
By the time i do that mission, i have the automatic refineries, so i build those on all the gases so I have the extra gas. Then heaps of thors w/ banshees and marines. if the thor dies it's 200 gas to fix it up and i usually have alot of spare gas doing the mission like this lol
