Worked for me. Tanks also seem to be popular, same with MM, though you probably need at least stim upgrade. I liked diamondbacks since that means you can avoid the kill squads entirely.

just engage the marauder patrol when it appears, with marauder/medic you'll pretty much lose nothing with focus fire and upgrades. make sure you run around killing the bunkers as they build them as well it makes life easier when chasing after the fast trains with your diamondbacks when theres a patrol with a raven send a single marauder ahead into it to eat the hunter seeker missile

I think the key is to not lose many units at the beginning against ravens. Put a diamond back 1rst in the fights so he takes the missile (and not your M&M). Your M&M don't die => you will stack a lot of diamond backs for later.

What I did literally the whole mission was spam those diamond raiders or w/e. I got soo many of them that no matter what the enemy did it didn't matter. I thought the mission was pretty fu ncause I loved those diamondbacks :D

Just make sure to get the 6 diamondbacks quickly at the start of the game. Taking down the trains is not a problem up until the mara death squads show up. When they do, get like 5-7 scvs + marines and attack move into the mara death group. Once the marines and scvs start soaking up the mara hits, move in with diamondbacks and kill the maras. For the last train I think I had around 14-16 diamondbacks. Just make sure that after each train raid, you come back to your base and get them repaired. There's enough time for that. I had 5 scvs on a separate hotkey for repairing.

After that I just used a constant stream of minerals (from constant exploring) to have a wall of stimmed marines infront of my diamond backs. MAKE SURE TO GET ALL OF THE DIAMONDBACKS ON THE MAP, repair is also SUPER useful, I'd pull 6-7scvs at a time just to make sure (auto-repair is so imba)

I built Marines-Medics and diamondbacks. You need to have ~7 or 8 diamondbacks minimum after the 5th wave because of the faster trains. I just use the MM to intercept the trains, and use the diamondbacks to get the flank to do some damage and run them along with the train. Make sure to micro them away from bunkers so that you can keep doing damage. It did take me a few tries because my autosaves were ta points where my army was out of position for the raven push and I only had 3 diamondbacks when the trains sped up (so I had to let one go and build more diamondbacks out of 3 fact). At the end of hte game I had 3 factories and 5 rax running.

I just massed Diamond backs, I purposely let the 3rd or 4th train by to repair my tanks and build more. I had a crew of scv's at the front of my base to repair hurt tanks on the fly. The last train I had to kill I had 16-18ish tanks and didn't even kill an escort just mass clicked the train to kill it and trigger the mission to end.

As far as micro goes... It's easy on the first few trains, just target fire the escorts. Stay clear of the bunkers while you fight them and then just kill the train. Make sure you run away the one that gets targeted by the seeker missiles. Against the fast trains it is a little trickier. Don't bother fighting the hellions, avoid the kill squads and get to the front of the train as early as possible. The Diamondbacks can't really catch up to the train, so you need to start attacking them from the front. When each section of the train passes your group of diamond backs attack the next train. Or put them near the front of the train and move along the track without target firing it. Target firing will cause them to stop as long as they can hit the train. If you have enough Diamondbacks you can use the first technique easily. You should try not to miss a train until they go back to using escorts. So you only have to take out one of the strong escorts. Here you are better off attacking the middle or back of the train to avoid the banshees and raven in the front. Target fire the escorts before you kill the train.

I believe my problem is mismanaging my Diamondbacks once the trains begin having escorts. People have commented that I should not be losing any Diamondbacks but I always have casualties. In between trains I will go back to my base to repair, but while attacking the train the SCVs never keep pace so I feel they are not worthwhile to keep while attacking because they don't get any repairs in. How should the Diamondbacks be micro'd on the escorts? I feel like I can avoid the bunkers easily enough but the escorts always pick me apart, preventing me from building a large enough force for the later trains. Should I focus fire the escort and then go back to the train? Or avoid them entirely be sending MM in first to distract and sticking the Diamondbacks on the train?

- Get armory and weapons upgrade right when the game start and get lvl 2 weapon when lvl 1 finishes. get armor upgrade too if u can - try to collect all the money scattered and get all 6 diamondbacks in the map - theres a expansion to the top left that u should get early just for the gas - get about 2-4 facs with tech lab, and get 2-4 tanks on the cliff between the top and middle track - protect the tanks with scvs to repair and also build turrets later on for anti air - try not to lose diamondbacks needlessly, so u can have more and more - don't try to attack the train right when it leaves the station, stay in ur base to let ur tanks kills some units off, then chase the train after it reaches ur base - lastly also important, is to use diamond back to attack either the very front or very back of the train, that way theres less units trying to kill them

Don't do the mass marauders and bunker strat. Dominon patrol will rape it or even if you beat them, your forces are fucked. Brutal has such razor thin margin. Avoid patrols and all costs and rape them. Two bunkers at home with mercs to defend. Very easy. I didn't rescue all the DBs on the map. Just gathered about 20 off of two fac. Thanks to whoever suggested it in this thread.

I didn't anticipate the faster trains so I had to load an old save and stock up on more Diamondbacks earlier. In the end it wasn't too bad though, just make sure most of the gas that you get from salvaging the train wreckage gets put toward more Diamondbacks.

The most important part with diamondbacks: - Attack fast trains from the front (you will only face a few helions) - Attack slow trains from the back (and bring a few marines to take some heat). This way you will not face the ravens. In addition: - Get all 6 diamondbacks at once. - Repair diamondbacks and your defence - You need some defence. A bunker or a tank with a few turrets coupled with your building diamondbacks should hold until you come back. Don't loose your two factories or mining SCVs on such a restricted ressource mission. No need to expand though. - Diamondbacks shoot while moving, so just keep them moving along the train, micro them at all times with the train, spam diamondbacks with a shortcut, don't take your eyes away from your army, it has to survive. If you are moving in stead of targetting the train you will kill whatever attacks you too. - Avoid bunkers while you are chasing the train, crush them on your way back with your most fit units in front (if you can and have not lost too many a.s.o.). - Get +attack upgrades, you want to kill the train faster. With this approach you can do achievements and everything on brutal just with diamondbacks.

Getting all hidden diamondbacks early is crucial to get critical mass. It also depends on what tech you have available. On my second playthrough of the campaign on brutal, I did the mission quite early, so I didn't have any siege tanks. On my first playthrough on hard, I already had siege tanks. IF you have siege tanks, the mission is so easy mode it isn't even funny anymore. Just park a few siege tanks (especially the merc ones, plus the +40 damage upgrade) on the ledge left of your base. This way, they can still somewhat help defense your base while tearing apart the bypassing trains, escorts and Maradaur squads in no time. Of course, you still have to attack the trains to finish the job, but siege tanks make your life much easier.

this allow u to do full damage all the time. if one of the escort chase your diamondbacks, they will be coming 1 or 2 at a time in which case your diamondbacks make quick work of them.

Just siege 6 tanks up in the train's path with diamondback support, boom boom, the trains and escorts go bye bye. The "bully" marauder escort forces patrol into my tank line and just vanish in a blink. Siege tanks + tank researches = imba. Since it was on brutal I thought there was going to be a surprise or a final boss attack. I was laughing a little inside when I finished it on brutal without a single reload.

There's really nothing else to it. Marine/medic can tank an absurd amount of punishment (including the marauder kill teams) while dishing it back out, and your diamondbacks can provide support vs heavy targets/take out trains np. Get 1 factory with a tech lab, and 2~ raxes with reactors, and just keep making stuff and putting it in the way of enemies.

I've taken the exp everytime I've played this. Only thing that will come there is the raven dropping autoturrets regularly, so all you need is one bunker with turret upg or one diamondback there to defend it. But it shouldn't be necessary.

What I mean is, train is approaching you, you should have a concave waiting for it. Attack move onto the front car, as soon as it's passing and out of range attack move the 2nd car. They all share HP but different targeting boxes, so if you just attack move the ground it will be extremely innefficient. By the time you attack the back car it should be long dead. I never got siege tanks or any diamondbacks besides the free ones (did brutal of course), just mass M and M with some decent attack micro on the train. The 2 fast ones are only remotely difficult but again with just attacking the right car as it passes makes it NP.

The key for me was knowing where the extra diamondbacks were and getting them asap, and then learning to control the diamondbacks. They attack while moving, so never attack move them, always just rightclick and keep pace with the trains. I massed diamondbacks off 2 facs. Got an early armory, upgraded weapons twice. With upgrades the diamondbacks kill the trains super quick and rip through the escorts and bunkers. Right when the kill squads came out I put 4 turrets on the outcrop left of the base, a couple scvs to repair and 2 merc seige tanks. The turrets and tanks owned the banshees and kill squads, stripped half the escorts off the remaining trains, and protected the base.

I just did this in brutal. I didn't use tanks, marines or medics. I didn't expand either. I just used diamondbacks. Got all from the map, got all the zerg bone stuff too. Missed 1 train when I had gotten 6 down and the 7th was so hard because of 2 converging death patrols of marauders where the train would be almost at the tunnel. I just decided to let that one go, then I only had to take 2 more and it was easy. I kept a constant flow of SCVs until mineral line was saturated, kept making supply depots, made a few turrets to kill ravens and banshees that came over my base and just pumped diamondbacks, making a second factory when money started to float. Had a group of SCVs at the base to repair too, but didn't let them follow the diamondbacks because I felt they would slow down the DBs, get killed and make the DBs also get killed so I said fuck it and just left them at base ready for a quick repair between trains. When they would attack my base after a train kill I just came back to destroy everything they were sending and microed red DBs away not to lose them. Didn't make marines at all, just built turrets to kill flying stuff. The great trick is to keep diamondback ball at the FRONT of the train, and away from all the patrol units, so that they destroy the train but get no damage from the guys in the middle or back. Once you have a ball of 20+ they will just rape the train so fast there is no way you will miss the kill. And try to start this as soon as it is possible to attack the train, as it enters the map, the sooner the better, because you will have more time to down it. And be careful with the patrols. Save a lot to reload if you mess up and lose too many DBs. It's really not that hard this way I did. Good luck!

Make enough tanks to defend 2 spots and you'll win with mnm support. Tanks should be able to hit 2 rails and also have a few where enemies will most likely come from. Also take the top left expo, I found it worth it. Don't forget to get all the diamondbacks and zerg bones.

You don't need to expand, just make Diamondbacks from 1 fac while 2 reactor-raxes pump MM (more if you can support them, add in merc bio if you wish). Clear the kill teams in between trains so you have more space to work with.

Position your marine/medic army at a bend in the train track. It will maximize their firing time without the need to move. You will probably only need 2 stims per train. It's just like tower defense ![]() After that just maintain your production out of those buildings while your army crushes everything on the map.

They do so much damage to armored units that if you can come from BEHIND the train and pick off the escort one by one you'll be fine. Also coming from behind there's a good chance the raven won't engage at all

Honestly I just used the 3 initial d-backs plus tanks. I want to think maybe a handful of marines for air, (ravens and medivacs was the only enemy air), I got vehicle weapon upgrades but not sure they were necessary. The first two trains are your real challenge, as if you just stick to the 3 dbacks you'll be chasing the first train a bit, and the second will have an escort. Decent micro will save you though. The third and fourth train you'll probably still be using your dbacks to chase after it passes your tanks, slightly, if you've macro'd well enough. Maybe better than I fared. By the last train I think I had 15+ tanks, blasting the last couple to death as they got into radius and easily taken out all the bunkers around the middle of the map just with siege splash and the roaming marauder units went down as well, didn't even aim for them they just walked into the radius. The enemy never attacked while a train was coming so as long as you move your tanks back to base after the train is down, use your dbacks to clean up the salvage, you'll have plenty of time to move your tanks and siege between the 3 tracks once they come out of the tunnel. Some levels are just not designed at all vs certain units. train robbery is tanks, havens fall is ghosts w/nukes, engine of destruction is battlecruisers, supernova... well you can rape that pretty good with the banshees you're given on that one, but it's even easier (but longer) to abuse the fire, if that counts as a unit.. bleh. You get the point. Most levels have pretty good recipes for cheese, if you just want to get through it. I mean really, it's too damn simple. Your base is in the middle of the map, right next to all the tracks. The only time you might be "rushed" is if you left your tanks sieged on the north most track when a speed train comes out of the south, but you'll still probably make it. With the tank damage upgrade from the armory, and if you bother with vehicle upgrades, it just becomes laughable. .... Like most of the campaign on brutal. But then again, even a medic&marine army steamrolls about anything on brutal as well. Finding the unit weaknesses just makes it 2nd grade mode. I'm just doing it like this though because my raid night achievement run comes after I finish this brutal run, and wanted to find the quick easy routes. Can't imagine how WtfBbqEasyStomp these strats are on normal

Just spam diamondbacks (off two factories) and MM off of a few rax. Have the MM ball kill the infantry units guarding the trains and keep the diamondbacks chasing the trains. Also, have the diamondbacks pick off any firebats (they do annoying damage and tank for awhile against MM balls). Should be pretty easy. Just make sure you clear up bunkers quickly. And don't bother engaging the marauders. Not unless you have a force much bigger and know you can take it without sustaining heavy losses.

Step 1: ![]() Step 2: ![]() Step 3: Profit By stimming, attacking, moving, attacking, moving, attacking, and moving, you can keep up with the train for long enough to kill it. Marauders are good as well, but since they can't stim, the train outruns them. If possible, attack the train at one of the bends in the rails.

I just did some other missions in the meantime, until I got some special upgrade (automatic refineries and fast repairing SCVs in particular are invaluable here) and MERCENARIES. Mercenaries in particular are awesome to have an initial force big enough to handle the very beginning. Then it's just massing Diamondback, upgrading them with two armories and stomp everything.
