So I've been playing the Campaign mode, and I've been stuck on this level. I don't have any trouble for the first 4 trains, but then I just get destroyed for some reason. I can beat the first time there are ravens and golis without a problem, but for some reason the second time it happens it is so much harder! Any tips?

I've been using diamondbacks with medic/marine, FYI.

I did it with Tank + a few diamondback, if you have tanks it's not that hard

For me, going mass diamondback off two factories worked. Just diamondbacks off one base. Be sure to take out as many bunkers as they go up as possible, so you don't get damaged by them later on. You should also run any diamondbacks targeted by HSM back so the HSM doesn't hit your diamondback ball.

Worked for me. Tanks also seem to be popular, same with MM, though you probably need at least stim upgrade. I liked diamondbacks since that means you can avoid the kill squads entirely.

I did Diamondbacks+Hellions. If you kite you can pick off the escorts into chunks.

I invested a lot in my tanks, so I built 3 to support mass diamondback and got through it fine (with the bully achievement)

I beat it (on brutal) before I had unlocked tanks. Mass Diamondback worked beautifully for me. They tear through the trains, and with half-decent micro they tear through the escorts as well.

marauder + medic, 6-8 diamondbacks, marine mercs for anti air.
just engage the marauder patrol when it appears, with marauder/medic you'll pretty much lose nothing with focus fire and upgrades. make sure you run around killing the bunkers as they build them as well it makes life easier when chasing after the fast trains with your diamondbacks
when theres a patrol with a raven send a single marauder ahead into it to eat the hunter seeker missile

mm + db avoiding the bunkers with the dbs is quite easy, i also lured the marauders into my base for the positioning.

Massing pure diamondback also worked fine for me... just remember to send scv's to repair them after each train.

Marine medic and diamond backs. When you engage a train, attack the units with the M&M and follow the train with the diamond backs.

I think the key is to not lose many units at the beginning against ravens. Put a diamond back 1rst in the fights so he takes the missile (and not your M&M).
Your M&M don't die => you will stack a lot of diamond backs for later.

Mass diamondbacks from 2 fax and a few rines in base to destroy any banshees. And remember after every wave, repair your diamondbacks. I ended up with almost 30 diamondbacks in the end.

The mercenary tanks helped me a lot on this mission when the marauder kill squads came out. I had to load a save a bunch of times before i got the first fast train. You need to make sure your diamondbacks are attacking while moving instead of just chasing the train. Only 2 or 3 DBs will attack if they do it automatically. Actively micro with the train with a bunch of DBs.

I'm pretty sure you can beat this mission with just mass DBs and marine+medic.

lol this mission was easy for me (I played on Brutal difficulty also).

What I did literally the whole mission was spam those diamond raiders or w/e. I got soo many of them that no matter what the enemy did it didn't matter. I thought the mission was pretty fu ncause I loved those diamondbacks :D

I just massed 5000 diamondbacks. At this point it was the only vehicle I had unlocked, but I ran a reaper around to get all the free ones and then just used 1 factory to spam them from then on out.

Didn't get the achievement to kill a marauder kill squad but I didn't try. wasn't sure how strong they were.

I used 2 facts to pump diamondbacks constantly + 1 reactor for marines (anti-air).
Just make sure to get the 6 diamondbacks quickly at the start of the game.
Taking down the trains is not a problem up until the mara death squads show up. When they do, get like 5-7 scvs + marines and attack move into the mara death group. Once the marines and scvs start soaking up the mara hits, move in with diamondbacks and kill the maras.
For the last train I think I had around 14-16 diamondbacks. Just make sure that after each train raid, you come back to your base and get them repaired. There's enough time for that. I had 5 scvs on a separate hotkey for repairing.

2fac diamondback + 2fac mmm (medic, obviously, not medivac). The first few trains are incredibly easy, so use that time to find all the neutral diamondbacks and the artifacts and the scrap resources. after that, just chill in your base until a train comes out, make sure a marauder squad isn't headed your way, and a-move your bio ball. Medics with upgrade heal so ridiculously fast that you should rarely have any casualties, and you just follow the train with diamondbacks while your bioball mops up. Eventually you should have enough diamondbacks (they never die, so you build up quickly) to kill the trains + escorts with them alone, leaving your MMM at home to defend from occasional harass. When it gets to the "they lost their speed but they've got a huge escort" alert, amove everything and laugh as medics let you absorb infinite damage.

after a few attempts I realized that diamond backs RAPE the 'anti-maraduer' death groups that wander the map if you get some rine/med to soak some of the damage for you. After that I just used a constant stream of minerals (from constant exploring) to have a wall of stimmed marines infront of my diamond backs. MAKE SURE TO GET ALL OF THE DIAMONDBACKS ON THE MAP, repair is also SUPER useful, I'd pull 6-7scvs at a time just to make sure (auto-repair is so imba)

If you take the expo they will not attack it. I used my first group of diamondbacks to take out the initial train and that expo site, then ran an SCV over and built the CC. Nice, superior source of income.

I built Marines-Medics and diamondbacks. You need to have ~7 or 8 diamondbacks minimum after the 5th wave because of the faster trains.

I just use the MM to intercept the trains, and use the diamondbacks to get the flank to do some damage and run them along with the train. Make sure to micro them away from bunkers so that you can keep doing damage. It did take me a few tries because my autosaves were ta points where my army was out of position for the raven push and I only had 3 diamondbacks when the trains sped up (so I had to let one go and build more diamondbacks out of 3 fact).

At the end of hte game I had 3 factories and 5 rax running.

i didnt get neither silver streak, nor all missions complete achievements even tho i went 8/8 on trains, 3/3 on defilers and 6/6 on diamondbacks.
Is it bugged or is there something special to it?

i did it with a big barracks ball and mercs after finding the diamondbacks throughout the map. I found the diamondbacks just were not cost effective. Stim did the same job as far as kiting went on the speed train.

Seige up tanks on the tracks, lol when the train comes. That's what I did, didn't lose a single train on Brutal.

I beat this lvl by massing diamond backs for the trains and leaving a group of marines in the base. But I guess what you have upgraded from the armory and lab matters too.

I've had to redo a few levels on Brutal, but this one I beat on the first try.

I just massed Diamond backs, I purposely let the 3rd or 4th train by to repair my tanks and build more. I had a crew of scv's at the front of my base to repair hurt tanks on the fly.

The last train I had to kill I had 16-18ish tanks and didn't even kill an escort just mass clicked the train to kill it and trigger the mission to end.

Only get 1 or 2 factories for diamondbacks and build 1 bunker in your main. Get marines mercs later on to hold the bunker. Either repair them in between trains or have a few scvs following. Kill train by trailing it and only engaging the back few units (usually tanks and heavy units are at the front). You don't even need to engage the air units if you do it right.

I guess if you expo early they won't. A Raven Auto Turret dropped my expo and some Goliaths attacked the expo on a different try.

I just beat it on brutal after several tries. Spam diamondbacks off of 2 factories, get damage upgrade at the armory. After that it's all micro. You'll want some turrets in your base. Don't bother expanding.

As far as micro goes... It's easy on the first few trains, just target fire the escorts. Stay clear of the bunkers while you fight them and then just kill the train. Make sure you run away the one that gets targeted by the seeker missiles.

Against the fast trains it is a little trickier. Don't bother fighting the hellions, avoid the kill squads and get to the front of the train as early as possible. The Diamondbacks can't really catch up to the train, so you need to start attacking them from the front. When each section of the train passes your group of diamond backs attack the next train. Or put them near the front of the train and move along the track without target firing it. Target firing will cause them to stop as long as they can hit the train. If you have enough Diamondbacks you can use the first technique easily.

You should try not to miss a train until they go back to using escorts. So you only have to take out one of the strong escorts. Here you are better off attacking the middle or back of the train to avoid the banshees and raven in the front. Target fire the escorts before you kill the train.

I did it on brutal not getting any of the diamondback on the maps past the first 3. What I did was 2 fac mass diamondback. When attacking the trains, either attack from the front or the back, depending on which side is weaker. Stay on that side until the train is dead. Keep both facs hotkeyed on 2 so that you can constantly macro. Be sure to attack the trains as early as possible because there are a lot of enemies around the exits.

I found it quite easy with the mass diamondback strat that everybody else apparently did. I also used some goli mercs, and added some rine mercs/rines/marauder mercs because I had a bunch of extra minerals. I always had 4-5 SCVs with my diamondbacks doing repairs

I'm having a lot of problems personally with this level. I'm doing the campaign on Brutal and this is the first mission I've had to try and research online to accomplish successfully. I do not have access to siege tanks.

I believe my problem is mismanaging my Diamondbacks once the trains begin having escorts. People have commented that I should not be losing any Diamondbacks but I always have casualties. In between trains I will go back to my base to repair, but while attacking the train the SCVs never keep pace so I feel they are not worthwhile to keep while attacking because they don't get any repairs in.

How should the Diamondbacks be micro'd on the escorts? I feel like I can avoid the bunkers easily enough but the escorts always pick me apart, preventing me from building a large enough force for the later trains.

Should I focus fire the escort and then go back to the train? Or avoid them entirely be sending MM in first to distract and sticking the Diamondbacks on the train?

100% diamond was enough for me at hard. after the third (or fourt) train, I took the expand at top. You put 1 bunker their with some rine in it and you're ok.

Initially, I also had problem with this level on brutal. Heres the few things I found are really important that made it actually pretty easy:

- Get armory and weapons upgrade right when the game start and get lvl 2 weapon when lvl 1 finishes. get armor upgrade too if u can
- try to collect all the money scattered and get all 6 diamondbacks in the map
- theres a expansion to the top left that u should get early just for the gas
- get about 2-4 facs with tech lab, and get 2-4 tanks on the cliff between the top and middle track
- protect the tanks with scvs to repair and also build turrets later on for anti air
- try not to lose diamondbacks needlessly, so u can have more and more
- don't try to attack the train right when it leaves the station, stay in ur base to let ur tanks kills some units off, then chase the train after it reaches ur base
- lastly also important, is to use diamond back to attack either the very front or very back of the train, that way theres less units trying to kill them

I did this mission on brutal by having 2 factories producing diamondbacks and I had 2 bunkers of marines in base. The most important thing is to move the diamondbacks and not attack move them on the trains. Just saying that because I lost once due to that.

I ended up putting this mission off for a little while, meaning I just built up a group of siege tanks + sci-vessals, put em near the tracks and watch em tear through any escort+train...
marauder death squad didn't even get in range before all dieing, laughed my ass off that I got an achiev for killing them...

For the last two heavily guarded trains, keep your diamondback ball hidden until the train goes past you then just follow it and kill the guards and car at the end, you avoid fighting the escort at the front.

I just tried the mass diamondbacks and it was so easy. Before I spent 3 hours failing.

Don't do the mass marauders and bunker strat. Dominon patrol will rape it or even if you beat them, your forces are fucked.

Brutal has such razor thin margin. Avoid patrols and all costs and rape them. Two bunkers at home with mercs to defend.

Very easy. I didn't rescue all the DBs on the map. Just gathered about 20 off of two fac. Thanks to whoever suggested it in this thread.

Augh, how I wish I had access to tanks when I first started this mission. That probably would have made things a whole lot easier. I got Silver Streak on this mission using marines, goliaths, and diamondbacks with a squad of about 3 medics and 6 SCVs to repair. I used Browder goliaths and War Pigs whenever possible. Against the Raven escorts I was finding that the Diamondbacks are too fat to accurately micro against Seeker Missiles, always getting stuck on my troops, so I just sent in one marine ahead of time to force the Raven to use up its Seeker then cleaned up the escort after that. I had to use quite a bit of move-stop micro with my marines and goliaths, and Stim helped a lot.

I didn't anticipate the faster trains so I had to load an old save and stock up on more Diamondbacks earlier. In the end it wasn't too bad though, just make sure most of the gas that you get from salvaging the train wreckage gets put toward more Diamondbacks.

I just built lots of marauders. You can easily hit and run the trains with them. Marauders are also good for killing off the escorts. I also built a few diamondbacks but I didn't really feel they were needed.

this may be a bit off topic but I couldnt find this information anywhere, but where are the 3 bones located on that map ? I found 2 but I can't seem to find the third one, is it in one of the terrans bases ? could anyone maybe make a screen with the 3 bones on em ? or just a simple paint picture with a dot on where they should be ?

thanks

One nearby right of the Diamondback pinged on the map on top left.

Second one just southeast outer wall of your main base

Third one all the way middle south.

None of them are at corners. They stick out BIG on minimap once you walk past them, so check it (skeleton icon).

I know I'm late and I don't know what already have been suggested but I pretty much did only Diamondback with some other mix to take the damage and I just drived with the train as diamonbacks shoot while moving. Was one of the most easiest missions on brutal.

Edit: Oh ye avoid those deathsquads.

I just massed MMM and used the diamondbacks found on the map.

With a big enough ball you can practically instakill the trains, so the speed boost didn't even matter.

try to keep your diamondbacks alive with 3-4 around, mass siege tanks whenever you see a train coming and siege up.

I find massing tanks much more convinient than massing diamondbacks

I had to put this off until I had siege tanks and then it was super easy. I put a couple tanks on the hill that's to the lower left. By the last train I had a ton of units at that location and the train + patrol were completely obliterated in seconds.

This mission is very easy when you "get it" (short guide with no extra tech required):

The most important part with diamondbacks:
- Attack fast trains from the front (you will only face a few helions)
- Attack slow trains from the back (and bring a few marines to take some heat). This way you will not face the ravens.

In addition:
- Get all 6 diamondbacks at once.
- Repair diamondbacks and your defence
- You need some defence. A bunker or a tank with a few turrets coupled with your building diamondbacks should hold until you come back. Don't loose your two factories or mining SCVs on such a restricted ressource mission. No need to expand though.
- Diamondbacks shoot while moving, so just keep them moving along the train, micro them at all times with the train, spam diamondbacks with a shortcut, don't take your eyes away from your army, it has to survive. If you are moving in stead of targetting the train you will kill whatever attacks you too.
- Avoid bunkers while you are chasing the train, crush them on your way back with your most fit units in front (if you can and have not lost too many a.s.o.).
- Get +attack upgrades, you want to kill the train faster.

With this approach you can do achievements and everything on brutal just with diamondbacks.

Just mass diamondbacks. I had like 55 at the end of the mission with 12 goliths......

I didn't pick up the extra 3 diamond backs, and just massed diamond backs with a couple tanks and bunkers for defense. It took me a try or two, but once I was careful not to lose any diamondbacks I was fine.

Just did it with mass diamondbacks after failing hard before.

Getting all hidden diamondbacks early is crucial to get critical mass.

It also depends on what tech you have available.

On my second playthrough of the campaign on brutal, I did the mission quite early, so I didn't have any siege tanks. On my first playthrough on hard, I already had siege tanks.

IF you have siege tanks, the mission is so easy mode it isn't even funny anymore. Just park a few siege tanks (especially the merc ones, plus the +40 damage upgrade) on the ledge left of your base. This way, they can still somewhat help defense your base while tearing apart the bypassing trains, escorts and Maradaur squads in no time. Of course, you still have to attack the trains to finish the job, but siege tanks make your life much easier.

Marines (you will have excess mins) and diamondbacks make this mission very easy. Also collect crates around the map and get the expo.
I thought that it was one of the easiest missions in campaign.

And btw ravens are stupid, they waste HSM on first thing they see (oh, single marine, lemme see... HSM!)

Wow I didn't know about mass diamondbacks, i thought they were a junk unit (although i never really tried them out lol). I tried MnM but got raped badly, so I got pissed off, got siege tanks, went back and massed like a dozen tanks. killed the trains in ~3 volleys

Mass upgraded tanks does the job + a bunker or two in the base to deal with air. No trains got through on brutal, ridiculously easy

the key to using diamond back is to keep micro'ing them so that they are just ahead of the train itself.

this allow u to do full damage all the time. if one of the escort chase your diamondbacks, they will be coming 1 or 2 at a time in which case your diamondbacks make quick work of them.

Just massed tanks, diamondbacks and just few goliaths to snipe down the ravens as they came.

Then I just placed my entire army at the exit to the left of my base and moved it up or down at leisure depending where the next train would come, was pretty easy. Had ofc few scv's coming down each wave to repair. The bullies were abit lol, walked into my tank line and just instantly died

They are pretty easy to find. A single playthrough should be more than enough to find them all. The game shows you the first 3. There is another at the top above your base. And then the rest are below your base.

The mission is ridiculously easy on brutal if you have tanks.

Just siege 6 tanks up in the train's path with diamondback support, boom boom, the trains and escorts go bye bye. The "bully" marauder escort forces patrol into my tank line and just vanish in a blink. Siege tanks + tank researches = imba.

Since it was on brutal I thought there was going to be a surprise or a final boss attack. I was laughing a little inside when I finished it on brutal without a single reload.

I did this on a 2nd play through file where I was rushing to play the secret mission which I missed so I didn't have much tech. Took some of the advice from this thread and went mass diamond back plus Marine + Medic to take hits. I had to reload a few times but then got stuck on the last train with too little forces. So I decided to make a Planetary Fortress near the tracks by lifting my main CC which had been mined out anyways. My Marine Medic plus PF got destroyed but it stalled the escort long enough for my Diamondbacks to pull out the win.

i did it with
marauder/medic to kill guards,
diamond-things to intercept train
vikings to kill banshees and pick up zerg items and minerals hidden all over the map

tried with tanks before but those did not help when they come to bash the base

Mass marine/medic and diamondbacks. Use the marine/medic force to tank the guards, the diamondbacks to support (or just chase down the train). You can rebuild the marines with a few reactor raxes really easily after you loot the ruins of the train.

There's really nothing else to it. Marine/medic can tank an absurd amount of punishment (including the marauder kill teams) while dishing it back out, and your diamondbacks can provide support vs heavy targets/take out trains np. Get 1 factory with a tech lab, and 2~ raxes with reactors, and just keep making stuff and putting it in the way of enemies.

Every new map is more or less made for the new units. So use em more than you think you should. Get upgrades from armory to your diamondbacks, and I mean ingame armory(if it's available) and not the ship armory, obviously you don't have diamondback yet since not completed the mission .

Just mass diamond backs works on brutal, the only problem that can happen are the ravens with their seeker missles.

You can also beat the Killsquads easily by having a few Diamondbacks and/or Marauders on the ledge west of your base whenever they walk by.
10+ Diamondbacks + SCVs take out any train and escort easily on brutal.

When I did it on Brutal the first time I had no tech either.. I ended up winning by a hair: My last Diamondback got the last shot in just before it died. It literally exploded a second after the last train did.

I used Marine Marauder and Medic with a few diamondbacks. The trains are easy to kill until they get fast. At that point the trick is to focus fire the trains with your MMM and then use diamondbacks to finish the job as the trains will only have like 300 health left or something.

not even close.

it was (one of the) first where i had to reload on brutal since i didnt expect some stuff.

but mass mmm with a bit micro + a few diamondbacks are enough to do the mission + achievements.

trick is to do good old shoot&run micro. with stim you are almost as fast as the speed trains and no latency makes very fast micro pretty easy.

Pure diamondbacks win. I suppose you could do this without antiair, but one load of mercmarines will take out those banshees and ravens that keep annoying you after like 5th wave or so.

I've taken the exp everytime I've played this. Only thing that will come there is the raven dropping autoturrets regularly, so all you need is one bunker with turret upg or one diamondback there to defend it. But it shouldn't be necessary.

Tank/Diamondback/Merc worked well for me. You should have the merc tanks by then, depending on how you did it. Just position the tanks on a ridge overlooking the tracks, snipe the ravens before they get off too many seeker missiles, then your tanks will just bombard the guards like no tomorrow. The rest of your forces should have no problem cleaning house after that.

What I did (and I lost zero units on my brutal run) is just go pure Diamondback off 1base and build a Barracks at the start of each track. This separates the patrol team from the train so your group of Diamondbacks can kill it without ever taking a hit. Rebuild the Barracks whenever one is taken out and you should have no problem.

Then again, pure Diamondback without anything to kill the patrol team is already easy since you can just stay in front of the train and you won't lose much.

One thing I noticed while killing trains is with whatever army you choose, make sure your attack micro on the train is solid.

What I mean is, train is approaching you, you should have a concave waiting for it. Attack move onto the front car, as soon as it's passing and out of range attack move the 2nd car. They all share HP but different targeting boxes, so if you just attack move the ground it will be extremely innefficient. By the time you attack the back car it should be long dead. I never got siege tanks or any diamondbacks besides the free ones (did brutal of course), just mass M and M with some decent attack micro on the train.

The 2 fast ones are only remotely difficult but again with just attacking the right car as it passes makes it NP.

Just pure diamond back completely takes care of this mission with ease though, I did it with a few MM to take the damage of the escort and my diamondback's took out the trains before they we halfway down the track.

This took me a few tries too, honestly this level of difficulty is what I was hoping for from all missions when I picked brutal.

The key for me was knowing where the extra diamondbacks were and getting them asap, and then learning to control the diamondbacks. They attack while moving, so never attack move them, always just rightclick and keep pace with the trains.

I massed diamondbacks off 2 facs. Got an early armory, upgraded weapons twice. With upgrades the diamondbacks kill the trains super quick and rip through the escorts and bunkers. Right when the kill squads came out I put 4 turrets on the outcrop left of the base, a couple scvs to repair and 2 merc seige tanks. The turrets and tanks owned the banshees and kill squads, stripped half the escorts off the remaining trains, and protected the base.
It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press this button.

Did you get all 6 free diamondbacks?
I made about 20-30 reapers for fun and some additional diamondbacks and MM ball, none of the trains even passed my engagin point and i killed the Marauders too. That ofc only on Hard, on Brutal i let one train go and used infrantry with diamondbacks, i guess i could have done it better, but i didnt want to spend time on it.

I felt that taking the expo at the top left really helped me that mission, but yeah Marine medic with diamond backs is a pretty good solve, I had to let one of the trains go, it was the first speedy train, since the kill team was in an awkward position.

Getting all 6 free diamondbacks is a must, then just go two factory diamondback.

I did it on brutal fairly easily. Just don't try and fight the marauders.

Hi,

I just did this in brutal. I didn't use tanks, marines or medics. I didn't expand either. I just used diamondbacks. Got all from the map, got all the zerg bone stuff too. Missed 1 train when I had gotten 6 down and the 7th was so hard because of 2 converging death patrols of marauders where the train would be almost at the tunnel. I just decided to let that one go, then I only had to take 2 more and it was easy.

I kept a constant flow of SCVs until mineral line was saturated, kept making supply depots, made a few turrets to kill ravens and banshees that came over my base and just pumped diamondbacks, making a second factory when money started to float.

Had a group of SCVs at the base to repair too, but didn't let them follow the diamondbacks because I felt they would slow down the DBs, get killed and make the DBs also get killed so I said fuck it and just left them at base ready for a quick repair between trains.

When they would attack my base after a train kill I just came back to destroy everything they were sending and microed red DBs away not to lose them. Didn't make marines at all, just built turrets to kill flying stuff.

The great trick is to keep diamondback ball at the FRONT of the train, and away from all the patrol units, so that they destroy the train but get no damage from the guys in the middle or back. Once you have a ball of 20+ they will just rape the train so fast there is no way you will miss the kill.

And try to start this as soon as it is possible to attack the train, as it enters the map, the sooner the better, because you will have more time to down it. And be careful with the patrols. Save a lot to reload if you mess up and lose too many DBs.

It's really not that hard this way I did. Good luck!
If you must do it... Do it with honor!

Used marines+diamondbacks to get the few trains down while I kept making tanks and a bit of mnm.

Make enough tanks to defend 2 spots and you'll win with mnm support. Tanks should be able to hit 2 rails and also have a few where enemies will most likely come from.

Also take the top left expo, I found it worth it. Don't forget to get all the diamondbacks and zerg bones.
Stuck.

MM/Diamondback, use the bio to engage the guards while the Diamondbacks chase down the train.

You don't need to expand, just make Diamondbacks from 1 fac while 2 reactor-raxes pump MM (more if you can support them, add in merc bio if you wish).

Clear the kill teams in between trains so you have more space to work with.

The Tank/Goliath escort will destroy your diamondback fleet if they aren't fully upgraded by this point. Even then, you can expect to lose one or two depending on how lucky you get with the track and positioning. You can easily afford to bring some SCV's along at this point since your minerals will be close to tapped, and the following trains only have light guards, so it's not a game breaker if those SCV's take a tank blast for the team.

Marine/Medic (out of 1 rax, you do have all the marine/medic upgrades, right?) + diamondbacks (out of 2 fac) + mercs handled it fine for me. Just run your starter units all over the map before the first train to get like 4 diamondbacks + hidden minerals/gas to give yourself an early boost.

Position your marine/medic army at a bend in the train track. It will maximize their firing time without the need to move. You will probably only need 2 stims per train. It's just like tower defense

After that just maintain your production out of those buildings while your army crushes everything on the map.

Mass Diamondbacks with a couple of SCVs to follow/repair. And they're mobile enough to avoid the killteams

They do so much damage to armored units that if you can come from BEHIND the train and pick off the escort one by one you'll be fine.

Also coming from behind there's a good chance the raven won't engage at all

I just did reactored marine/medics off of 2 barracks with constant diamondback production off of a single factory. I think I made 2 tanks + 1 bunker as well just to protect at home.

I never took the expansion and avoided the kill teams like the plague.

It's important to have lots of diamondbacks in order to take down the 2 speedy trains... Trains 8 & 9 I think?

This is the first mission, that I actually had some trouble with on my run for the brutal achievement. I won't repeat six pages of hints, but I'll tell you this: Theres already a ton of walkthroughs for every mission and achievement in the game on youtube. Just do a proper search. Or go to liqipedia/single player. they have all of the missions vids. (I think).

mass reapers is the way to go. Once you get to 60 or 70 of them you can just stutterstep all over anything, the only thing you have to watch for is banshees and ravens.

I went for a small force of MMM and a couple of tanks, to go with a swarm of diamondbacks. The other forces will kill the escorts and the kill teams, while the diamondbacks pursue the train. It was hard, but i did it.

I found the mission to be quite easy, 2 Factory Diamondbacks, and slowly add marines to the mix once you can afford, keep producing SCV's ofc, once a raven is there, micro the hunted unit, usually a Diamondback, away from your army group, and you should be fine, don't forget to target fire air units with the Marines.

I just got Diamondbacks whenever gas permitted and spent the rest of my resources on MMM. Worked perfectly; I just A-moved around the map and followed the train with the Diamondbacks while the rest of my army engaged the escort.

EDIT:// I never expanded; might be easier if you do that but I don't know if the enemy will target your expo or not.

I did the whole thing again today with a mostly diamondback force and some MM to support against train armies... I completely avoided the patrolling marauders and took the expo pretty early.

If you have tanks, I think that's the easiest way. A decent tank ball with the mercs and some missile turrets near the tracks will wipe out almost all of their army and severely damage the train to the point that a couple diamndbacks can just focus fire it down.

This mission is pretty trivial with bunkers/tanks camping enemy choke... +diamondbacks to chase.

Use repair/heal alot (or fast expand to the top) to keep expenditure low since not much money

got through this yesterday on my brutal play through.

Honestly I just used the 3 initial d-backs plus tanks. I want to think maybe a handful of marines for air, (ravens and medivacs was the only enemy air), I got vehicle weapon upgrades but not sure they were necessary. The first two trains are your real challenge, as if you just stick to the 3 dbacks you'll be chasing the first train a bit, and the second will have an escort. Decent micro will save you though. The third and fourth train you'll probably still be using your dbacks to chase after it passes your tanks, slightly, if you've macro'd well enough. Maybe better than I fared. By the last train I think I had 15+ tanks, blasting the last couple to death as they got into radius and easily taken out all the bunkers around the middle of the map just with siege splash and the roaming marauder units went down as well, didn't even aim for them they just walked into the radius.

The enemy never attacked while a train was coming so as long as you move your tanks back to base after the train is down, use your dbacks to clean up the salvage, you'll have plenty of time to move your tanks and siege between the 3 tracks once they come out of the tunnel.

Some levels are just not designed at all vs certain units. train robbery is tanks, havens fall is ghosts w/nukes, engine of destruction is battlecruisers, supernova... well you can rape that pretty good with the banshees you're given on that one, but it's even easier (but longer) to abuse the fire, if that counts as a unit.. bleh. You get the point. Most levels have pretty good recipes for cheese, if you just want to get through it.

I mean really, it's too damn simple. Your base is in the middle of the map, right next to all the tracks. The only time you might be "rushed" is if you left your tanks sieged on the north most track when a speed train comes out of the south, but you'll still probably make it. With the tank damage upgrade from the armory, and if you bother with vehicle upgrades, it just becomes laughable.

.... Like most of the campaign on brutal. But then again, even a medic&marine army steamrolls about anything on brutal as well. Finding the unit weaknesses just makes it 2nd grade mode.

I'm just doing it like this though because my raid night achievement run comes after I finish this brutal run, and wanted to find the quick easy routes. Can't imagine how WtfBbqEasyStomp these strats are on normal

i just did mass diamondbacks. build marines with excess minerals. marines are used versus the banshees and only the banshees, since dbacks can't shoot up. they're a very good unit, the diamondbacks. they killed the marauder force for me without breaking a sweat. i mean sure, you'll lose a couple of them but in the long run it doesn't really matter. they just do too much damage.

My thoughts exactly. I just went mass Diamondback with a few MM (probably like 2-3 medics and however many marines I could make with extra minerals) and Siege Breakers. Just siege up before the train/patrols came and sit there. No micro required, no macro required. :/

I just did MM ball + diamondbacks. If you want, grab the expo to the northwest. It is lightly defended and you can take it pretty easily/quickly.

Just spam diamondbacks (off two factories) and MM off of a few rax. Have the MM ball kill the infantry units guarding the trains and keep the diamondbacks chasing the trains. Also, have the diamondbacks pick off any firebats (they do annoying damage and tank for awhile against MM balls).

Should be pretty easy. Just make sure you clear up bunkers quickly.

And don't bother engaging the marauders. Not unless you have a force much bigger and know you can take it without sustaining heavy losses.

Here is a comprehensive guide on how to win the Great Train Robbery on brutal.
Step 1:
Step 2:

Step 3:
Profit

By stimming, attacking, moving, attacking, moving, attacking, and moving, you can keep up with the train for long enough to kill it. Marauders are good as well, but since they can't stim, the train outruns them.
If possible, attack the train at one of the bends in the rails.

2Fact Diamond back 1Rax M&M was what did it for me. Picking up all the Diamondbacks left around the map early helped a ton.

This is exactly how I did it (no tanks for me yet on this mission). It took me a few tries because I'd be too focused on killing the trains and then one of the marauder super doom squads would suddenly be all over my ass.

I finished this on my first REAL attempt yesterday, wasn't too hard - though admittedly i had to reload a few times. Getting flanked by BOTH marauder kill teams is NOT fun
I actuallyjust followed this, and found it to be pretty useful, so definately check it out if you're still having trouble:

I actually had some real trouble in this mission, more than many other missions. I wasn't just able to mass a decent amount of units to both take the train and protect my base in the very beginning, even letting a single train pass by.

I just did some other missions in the meantime, until I got some special upgrade (automatic refineries and fast repairing SCVs in particular are invaluable here) and MERCENARIES. Mercenaries in particular are awesome to have an initial force big enough to handle the very beginning. Then it's just massing Diamondback, upgrading them with two armories and stomp everything.
