It is not nor the referees. It is the dumb implementation and incompetent idiots hiding behind the referees after making the rules being at fault. To me, the football authorities seem to want VAR to fail. I'm washing off this season VAR. Maybe it will get better next assuming it survives

The country with the most exciting players, most exciting league and the most money has the worst referees by far. In Germany its not failing. ------ Mourinho team 8 fouls - Pep team 14 fouls How much they have changed

Messi on Instagram: "Honestly I don't like making such things, but I think everyone should be responsible of his own tasks and decisions. The players know what happens inside the pitch, and we're also the first to admit whenever we do wrong." "The ones responsible for the sporting area must assume their responsibilities and take charge of the decisions they make. At last I think that when it is spoken about the players, names should be given, because if not it is contaminating everyone and spreading lies". The title of the article was: 'Abidal: "After the Clásico, we started to determine the departure of Valverde"' And what's highlighted in red: 'The responsible of the sporting area explains that "many players were not satisfied nor worked much". Messi complaining so directly about the board is something unexpected. By the way, if you didn't know, it was announced today that Dembelé is injured for the rest of the season. So all the money from Neymar was completely wasted in him and Coutinho. Ah, and they didn't bring a forward sub this season and they sold Carlos Perez in winter to Roma, so now Messi and Ansu Fati are alone for months. With a new coach in winter. This board is just nuts.

The best that could happen at this point would be terrible results (out of CL fast, lose to RM in the league, etc.) and early elections this summer. Then out with the shitty direction, someone new that also has the balls to kick those players Abidal was referring too (including Messi if needed), and reset for a year or two.

There are enough leaks in the press already not to put more oil on the fire with sentences like that. On the other hand, Messi should also shut it. It shouldn’t have leaked, that said unfortunately in the modern game unless you have absolute 100% faith in your coach it’s easier to get rid of the coach financially than a bunch of players. Barca do have previous in clearing out Deco and Ronaldinho, but that was with Pep coming in and a maturing Messi. Messi isn’t a problem as a player but perhaps does wield a bit much power and influence based on what snippets we hear. Suarez isn’t the player he once was but him and Messi are very close for example, which probably makes it rather difficult to drop him and give Griezman a run up top. In that sense Suarez being injured might be a good thing for Barca if it helps Griezman hit his best form. It’s taken a while but it looks like Zidane has got Real back into a solid side, they’ve got Hazard to come back in fresh too. Should be interesting to see how Barca do. I thought they’d do their usual coast to the league/loss in the CL, perhaps they’re coasting a bit in La Liga and a resurgent Real and a new coach will push them that extra few percent.

That's why I want -good- and -functioning- VAR in the game I believe it’s used differently elsewhere than in the Premier League. For me if it was used a bit more consistently, broke up the flow a little less and was changed a little with regards to offsides that would be good. Although the actual offside law would need to change, VAR is interpreting a rule designed to be judged by the human eye and not machine precision. Personally with offside I’d go back to the old ‘daylight’ standard or something close to it. Defenders aren’t getting joy from meticulous played offside traps they’re getting lucky from bad defending while a player happens to have his left ear offside or whatever. I accept a few teething problems to be ironed out. Football fans love to complain though, my first 3 decades were spent with complaints of referees making wrong decisions, now it seems entering my 4th I shall be having to listen to people complain about VAR until the day I die. The refereeing mistake that caused me most anguish, Henry’s handball vs Ireland in the playoffs for the 2006 World Cup is the sort of thing that VAR is ideal for.

Bremen - Dortmund Niklas Moisander hits Giovanni Reyna in the face in the box. Ref Winkmann checks VAR and gives both yellow Schalke - Berlin Omar Mascarell nicely tackles Jordan Torunarigha. So far so good. But the latter had too much speed and flailed uncontrolled over the sideline so Schalke manager Wagner tries to catch him. Ref Osmers checks VAR and gives red to manager Wagner Edit: Maybe someone can link clips or sth? I don't know where to find and how to link those :/
