Ferrari sacrificed Leclerc's victory for a Ferrari 1-2. If Seb hadn't undercut Hamilton/Leclerc, Ferrari would likely have finished 1-3 if Hamilton got a lap in clean air. It was the right team decision, as shitty as it was for Charles.

Yep, I think that's pretty bang on.

Looking back, they could have told Vettel to slow down a hair when they knew Leclerc will be behind after the pit stop, in the same way they did to Bottas, getting them to switch on track after the pit stop doesn't look good to the fans so not advisable.

All the teams underestimated the power of the undercut this race, if Hamilton pitted at same time as Vettel, Leclerc would come out 3rd. I see Ferrari trying to defend the undercut from Max and try undercutting Hamilton, so there's more for him to gain than Charles... But because Leclerc was 3 seconds ahead of Vettel, he had like 2 laps of clear air he could have pitted before Vettel as well... Honestly just poor executions of Leclerc's strategy, but saying they are favoring Vettel instead of Leclerc is blasphemy.

At least Vettel drove well today, being able to pass those 4 cars faster than Leclerc, and setting those few fastest laps as well. So as much as I enjoy Vettel making mistakes and watching him deteriorate, and being a little bit bitter about Leclerc not winning, reasonably well deserved.

And you know what, who knows if Hamilton's strategy was that bad if we didn't have those 3 safety cars. Ferrari tires might've really dropped off. Enjoyable strategic race, and very nice to have the top 3 teams on such even footing.

Giovinazzi did great today, shame about the Ric Dive bomb and then the safety car one lap after pitting otherwise he could have challenged Norris I think, still to lead a race for a few laps is cool and really out performed Kimi these last few weekends (minus the last lap crash in Spa)

I just caught up on the race and the news. I think the thing to keep in mind also is that Ferrari didn't expect Vettel's out-lap to be so fast. My understanding is it sounds like the intention of their strategy would have been to keep Leclerc just ahead of Vettel but a combination of Leclerc's tires falling off more than they expected and Vettel's out-lap being faster than expected caused him to be a second or two ahead of where they thought he would be, and thus just barely ahead of Leclerc. It definitely didn't look to me like they deliberately fucked up Leclerc's strategy. It's not like Monaco 2017 where they did an obviously blatantly worse strategy for Kimi to give Vettel the lead.

Leclerc himself seems a lot more cooled off and okay about what happened now that he's had it explained to him.

I'm more amazed at how badly Mercedes bottled their strategy. Like it wasn't even just an iffy strategy, it was straight up bad. They could have won the race easily had they not been so conservative. It seems like they've been a lot of bad calls lately. Any time things go other than almost exactly to plan they seem to fall apart now.

I do also wonder if Bottas is going to be overtaken in the championship by Leclerc or Verstappen. Both are not far behind (the two are tied right now) and Bottas typically has a weaker second half of the season. Bottas looked alright this race but he hasn't been on the level of Hamilton, Leclerc, or Verstappen for several races now. If it wasn't for Mercedes basically being unbeatable for the first 6 races, Bottas would probably be in 4th or 5th right now.

Leclerc's mentality will take him very far. He's a fierce competitor. Once Vettel and Hamilton have retired, new rivalries will arise. With Leclerc, Verstappen, Norris, Russell and Ocon (from next season onwards) there's plenty of talent on the grid already. Sainz and Kmag are also pretty fast. I wonder if Ricciardo will ever get a shot at winning a championship. Right now it doesn't look likely, but the 2021 regulations might shake up the field quite a bit. I really hope there'll be some new teams, too.
first we make expand, then we defense it.

Great news for McLaren in securing Mercedes engines, hopefully that's a big step in returning to where they should be.

Leclerc seems like he is on a completely different level in qualifying right now. That lap was nuts even though he screwed up the last sector.

Hearing all the news about Hulkenberg is getting rather sad. I hope he ends up at a team (apparently Williams is basically his only option, and they are looking at taking Latifi because of money reasons). I wanted Ocon back but I don't know if I would want that at the expense of Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg is also too good to be on the sidelines, especially after his performances recently and the fact that he has been keeping up pretty well with Ricciardo. Even Renault says had they known Hulkenberg would have problems finding a seat they would have thought more about re-signing him. I think the expectation was Hulkenberg would go to Haas. I'm still mystified as to why Haas chose to keep Grosjean over signing Hulkenberg. Grosjean's been absolutely horrid this year after being just as bad last year. He's had 6 retirements, many of which were his own doing, and has compromised his own race several times when he hasn't retired (and ruined Magnussen's race as well to boot on multiple occasions). Yes Grosjean helped Haas figure out their correlation problem, but he is a big factor in why the team is near the bottom of the standings right now.

It is also relevant that people keep on saying ric is winning the h2h between them but it is often forgoten that ric is receiving the upgrades before hulk.

Ocon will soon show renault that being french is not enough.

Annoyingly the infographics are wrong throughout. It ends on +0.4, but Hamilton was onky 0.27 slower.

But it's clear that the Ferrari is much faster in straight line speed atm. Merc doesn't seem to be running more wing either, because while they're catching in the slow speed corners, they're not in the mid speed ones where the wing should come most into play.

The Gro, Gio, Ric sandwich on Lap 1 has hints of '17 SG GP

Vettel great start seems to be part of a Ferrari strategy of Leclerc giving the slipstream

Leclerc is very pissed now

Vettel is on file. Leclerc can't even catch up to him for the swap.

And at the end Hamilton will beat them both with superior strategy. The softs are already slower than the mediums.

And the FIAT broke again.
