I apologize for shitting it up, but apparently I have run into an absolute master bullshitter. To the casual onlooker, I can see how it might look like we are just going back and forth but, trust me, his posts are just insults, drivel and projection.

will Lonzo Ball be able to continue with his fairly odd shooting stroke once the NBA's best defensive minds focus in on it? i suspect he will.

I dont know whether hes bragging but Im on your side on the issue. You are correct that we need an epistemological approach and we need to consider the role of the technocrats. Simply ramming pro-science propaganda is not enough. Consider politics everybody hate trump supporters but you can never win them by spreading anti-trump propaganda, it just fuels them. Your discussion was a nice back and forth and I admit I enjoyed reading about flat earth and your knowledge on the topic. The problem is he has become overelaborate and dominant to the discussion. You should not let him do that and you should have stood your ground because you have good points.

Do you mean he will continue to shoot with his awkward stroke? Damn hes going to be a block and steal bonanza for guards initially, i thought so too .. but after watching him in the preseason game against Minnie i think he'll make it work. anyhow, we'll find out soon enough.
Wiggins was more active on defense than i've ever seen him. when in Wiggins career does he shoot 3 for 12 and end up +13? prolly never. its game 1 of the pre-season so the 3-12 doesn't mean anything. the +13 does though.

It's a good thing Lonzo is quite tall, because just on this preseason footage his jumpshot seems really easy to contest (and he sways forward a lot so it's not helping). If he ever becomes an offensive scoring threat and elite "sizeable" defenders are assigned to him, it will be really tough for him to get a shot off.
What I can see happening is him developing a tendency to shoot from several steps behind the line for additional space, and have subpar 3pt% as a result. Between preseason and summer league, he already took a number of deep 3s that he doesn't have the skill to make.
|
Im not sure Lonzo will ever be much of a scoring threat. If he does make it he'll be that J Kidd/ good Rondo type.
|
I'm not exactly sure what the consensus is on Lonzo's ceiling. I've read people say it's Kidd, but on the other hand Lakers fans seem to think they have the next superstar. I think Lonzo does need a reliable 3pt shot if he really wants to be successful in today's game. He doesn't seem to have the kind of athletism that allows you to get by without a good jumper.

Reports are saying that Tristan Thompson is being moved to the Cavs' bench.

That's what I was thinking in the offseaon thread. Seems like Crowder would defend 4s though. And of course now they have Wade

if Cleveland is serious about starting Wade and Rose they need a 3 point threat for spacing. So Love plays Center and whoever plays power forward needs to be a 3 point threat as well.

They all thought that would be overload. They suggested letting him adjust to the NBA this year and figuring out the jumper next year and so on.
this also gives Ball 1 year to prove that his shooting style works. it'd be pretty disheartening for Ball to hear "look we know ur shot is useless so don't even bother trying it because it won't work... `we just know` .. so shut up and rebuild your shooting stroke from scratch you stupid puke"
|
Must be pretty disheartening indeed to smoke clowns from downtown all your life on the basketball court, and then being told that it won't cut it at the NBA level so you have to begin from zero. I'm guessing that players with a funky release but with decent percentages in college thought all their life their shot was a strength and would carry them forward . His jumpshot is not dead yet, maybe he'll have success with it.
|
What are Ball's college stats?
|
I just saw he had a 41.2 3pt% at UCLA. That's kinda good for a college player right?

Reggie Miller made his ugly release work. You can succeed in the NBA without perfect form. It's just a matter of whether your shot is too slow and easy to contest. If you can get it off easily, it's fine.
|
|
i thought so until i watched him in game. it was only 1 game though. time will tell. if he doesn't get blocked much and his #s are solid... "if it ain't broke .. don't fix it".
i really like how the NBA altered the draft lottery. here are hte new odds.
![[image loading]](https://i.imgur.com/Mi6fBas.jpg)
all non-playoff teams have a shot at the top 4 picks in the draft.
on average the worst NBA team gets selection 3.66. 2nd worst team gets pick 3.86 and 3rd worst team gets pick 4.06
the changes are implemented with the 2019 draft.

Remember the Red Mamba on the Spurs? I forgot his name. I just remember his 3-pt release being slow. He was a PF/C and his shots would just disappear in the playoffs.
