It shouldn't be too surprising. The people "praising" him (if you could call it that) said he COULD BE Matt Ryan. If that is your upside it means you aren't all that athletic. If you don't have excellent field vision (which Matt Ryan has had since his rookie year), which is both hard to predict and rare, that means you are a crappy QB. The Goff pre-draft said, "has to be a top 5 smartest and hardest working QB to be a decent starter."

He’s an athletic playmaker with limited experience like Newton or Tannehill, two quarterbacks who neatly define the range of possibilities for Trubisky.
This comes just after comparing him to Geno Smith. So Tanier says:
Mitchell Trubiski
Upside: Cam Newton
Mid-Range: Ryan Tannehill
Low: Geno Smith
That is not particularly exciting.

The scuttlebutt that I'm seeing is that the GMs for the Bears and the Texans did those trades to get QBs yesterday without the blessings of the head coaches.

Goff spent most of the season with Jeff Fisher, who is infamous for ultra conservative offensive playcalling. Field vision doesn't count for much if your coach forbids you from looking downfield. He may benefit from more playing time, if the Rams haven't totally destroyed him already.

Feels like a lackluster draft imo. Not many big names coming out this year. I feel like we were spoiled the last couple of drafts though. Hopefully next year makes up for it.
