The Niners have virtually unlimited cap space, so they aren't going to give two shits about overpaying for what they like in the short term. By all accounts, Garcon is a good culture guy, and lord know that the Niners need to completely revamp their culture. I wouldn't be surprised if they throw a similarly front loaded deal at DeMarcus Ware.

I think RE: Cousins, people are vastly overestimating the Redskins "Incompetence" and Cousins "playing them". Cousins is merely doing what Lebron did with the Cavs early on, and what any QB who wants to maximize his income would logically do. All extensions are, by definition, below market. Even at whatever Cousins cap hit is this year under the franchise tag, he is going to make less than what he would under a true free agency bidding process. The only reason to sign an extension is security and winning. Winning being, probably, the more important thing. Its hard to build a team around Kirk Cousins or Matt Ryan if that QB is making $35 million per year, which they would on the open market, when you are competing against A-Rod and Brady making $12-20 mil per.

Well, they are correct not to bet on him. He's a winning QB, if the Redskins are a competent organization (not proven) on the deals they offered him last year ($15-16 per) and a losing QB at what he has been looking to get (20+ per). The only way he's worth that is if he's a perennial MVP candidate. The Falcons have had Matt Ryan for years, and they needed an MVP year out of him to make the playoffs since he got off his rookie deal. Thats the issue.

turns out the guy who was the source for "cousins to 49ers done deal" was a Australian podcaster and Mike Silver of NFL.com said "i could see why the 49ers would want him" so the washington post went with "90% done deal"

Yeah, definitely not happening. Washington may get next year's first round pick from the Niners and potentially some lesser picks, but it's not going be a huge RG3-type of haul. The Niners know that they can simply wait until next year when he becomes a FA.

EDIT: Definitely not happening now. Niners are going to be signing Hoyer the Destroyer.

EDIT2: Damn, Niners are gonna grab Goodwin and Juszczyk, too. The new administration clearly has plans.
