Interesting notes... This will be the first time the UFC returned to Cincinnati, Ohio since UFC 77 when Anderson Silva defended the middleweight title against Rich Franklin after busting his nose at UFC 64.
Chad Mendes is the next in line to fight Jose Aldo for the belt on August 2nd.
Yesss! I'm a fan of any card that has Carlton Banks fighting on it! He got old and bigger from his Fresh Prince days, but damn I bet he can still dance. I hope he does the dance after smashing Costa.
I hope Cruickshank wins! Always trying to show those Michigan natives some love, and beyond that bias he has really been fun to watch since being in the UFC. I think Silva/Brown could be a really good fight, but I have no idea who has the advantage. I'm going with Brown.
I agree, not the most appealing thing to see fighters like Travis Browne, Jon Jones, Matt Brown, and Erick Silva just plastered on a poster with their mouth open and face frowned...
In other news, Junior Dos Santos has injured his hand and has been replaced with usual Light Heavyweight Fabio Maldonado to fight Stipe Miocic.
And also, Stefan Struve has been medically cleared to fight and will be taking on Matt Mitrione on Independence Day weekend.
Aldo and Mendes both speak out on Conor McGregor, and Gina Carano is in the process of a possible bout with Ronda Rousey.
Yay, finally a UFC that falls on my birthday. No title fights or anything, but at least the immortal is fighting. Hope he doesn't have too much ring rust.
I'm excited about that UFC Fight Night card with Swanson vs Jeremy Stephens it will be the first time UFC comes to San Antonio. Last time there was pro MMA in San Antonio was WEC 43 Bendo vs Cerrone. ---
I'm trying to find some cheap tickets to go though Can't miss the first UFC show in Spurs arena

Was hoping I could go to the one in Dallas featuring Hendricks vs Lawler... That couldn't happen with lack of money and time. Hope you get to go, Swanson vs Stephens is probably ending early.

It still blows my mind that they are trying to push this fight. This would be a 100% purely sex based fight and I don't see how Ronda Rousey can sit here and claim to be some champion of WMMA and then entertain this fight. It's absurd. Carano wasn't that good even when she was at her fighting peak, WMMA just sucked. Cyborg juiced or not juiced would destroy Carano...Rousey would destroy Carano. I bet most of the women fighting in the top 10 would whoop Carano. I'm done taking WMMA at all seriously if Dana White continues to dodge Cyborg/Rousey, or continues to push the Carano, and to a lesser extent the Holmes fight (Holmes would give her a fight in the future, but unless she drops Ronda coming in she'll just get tossed).

Nah but seriously, this is just what I've come to expect from modern MMA. Paper champs, elementary school level promoting, bigotry, and outright bullying in some cases.

I kinda agree, because I think eliteXC had Carano avoid the toughest fights in wmma. Not to say Kelly Kobold, Kaitlyn Young, and Julie Kedzie were "bad", but I think they were past their prime when they fought Carano. Also, not to make any excuses for Carano, but she was always not training because she was in all kinds of promotional/acting shit, which is why she could barely make weight for her later fights. The fight against Kaitlyn Young just looked awful for Carano because she seemed too tired to even punch. I feel like she just gassed in the first round vs Justino (Or Santos? WHATEVER HER NAME IS THESE DAYS) but I believe if Carano was in tip-top shape, she would have fared much better against Cyborg with better cardio. Carano is also an excellent striker, and is (or at least, was) a better striker than any of the women in the UFC at the moment except for Ronda, who I personally think has way more power than anyone else in the UFC.
To put it simply, I think Carano can beat anyone in the UFC except for Ronda Rousey. The real x-factor is that Rousey's chin hasn't really been tested in the octagon. Miesha Tate's strikes looked weak as shit, and Sara McMann only landed a couple of punches before being kneed in the gut.
So, if Rousey and Cyborg fought, who would win? Well, the most similar fighter to Rousey in terms of style is Shayna Baszler, who faced Cristiane Santos in strikeforce. The problem with that fight was really that Baszler is way too small to fight at 145, and isn't known for having amazing strength, to say the least. As far as technique goes, Baszler is a fairly good grappler and has a lot of submissions. However, Cyborg was way too strong and Baszler was never able to get a submission against Cyborg, although she made a valiant effort to do so.
For the Rousey vs McMann fight, I kind of was able to predict the outcome based on McMann's fight with Baszler (who, incidentally lives in Ronda Rousey's house) by seeing how well McMann could deal with a very experienced grappler. Well, technique-wise, Cyborg is just a brawler with a lot of strength. She can power her way out of bad situations against smaller girls, but if you watch her fight against Marloes Coenen, Cyborg was out-wrestled and out-grappled in every situation, and even in the fight with Carano, Gina Carano was able to get the mount versus Cyborg. Unfortunately for both Coenen and Baszler, their level of striking power is not very impressive, nor their ability to take strikes. Ronda Rousey, by contrast, is way stronger than Baszler, and more well-rounded than Coenen, so she would definitely have an advantage over Cyborg.
I guess the real test for Rousey will be Alexis Davis, and I'm curious to see how that fight will go, because then it will be much easier to make a prediction of who will win in a Rousey-Cyborg fight, just because of how much better Davis is than any of Rousey's previous competitors.
Edit: Oh, in conclusion: Everybody who thinks Cyborg will just kick Ronda Rousey's ass is just jumping on the hype train.

I'm done taking WMMA at all seriously
Call me sexist, but watching WMMA just isn't exciting for me.
Pretty intense stare down between Silva and Brown. Excited to watch for the two to fight! Will Silva's explosiveness and athleticism see him victory in the first round? Or can Brown either beat Silva standing up in the first round, or manage to wear him out into the later rounds of the bout? Silva seems like an exciting fighter that'll get finishes and put butts into seats, but he just doesn't have the "aura" that he did in his first three fights whereas Brown is riding the momentum of a 5-fight winning streak. I see Brown taking the fight and the finish in the later rounds when he takes advantage of Silva's fatigue issues.
Call me sexist, but watching WMMA just isn't exciting for me.
I guess everyone has their own interests when it comes to mma... I mean, there is a lot of diversity and different kinds of fighters. I dunno, I just like every division and almost every fighter, but I'm sort of weird like that :p
Unrelated to tonight, but to any non UFC fans, Alvarez is out of the Chandler fight due to a concussion sustained during training. Bellator is still selling it as a PPV with Will Brooks stepping up on a week's notice.. I'll be surprised if they break 10k buys.
