There are a few division title favorites in there (Carolina, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Denver) and some surprises as well, but I get what you're saying. Philadelphia still hasn't played their game this week, so I don't know if I'd include them on the list as of yet, but it should be a good game tonight.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/vikings/2014/09/15/adrian-peterson-reinstated-saints-child-negligence-indictment-minnesota/15663317/ I think that means he's back for the season. The NFL doesn't have auto-suspensions for normal crimes and the Vikings chose not to. I believe in these cases, the NFL waits for the court systems to handle things and he won't be in court until 2015. I still don't want him on my team, now I have to figure out how to flip him.

AP reinstated makes sense I guess. What he did was pretty nuts but I think to a lot of people it's not THAT nuts, and the NFL and Vikings are just going to let the legal system work. For now his reputation is the thing that has taken a major hit.

Waiting until the courts handle things is the right thing imo. But he also admitted to beating the kid with a stick. Whether or not he is found guilty (texas law says that 'parents are entitled to discipline their children as they see fit, except when that discipline exceeds what the community would say is reasonable.') that's totally fucked and the league should step in. They have precent with big ben in suspending for a non-charged crime. I dunno. It's a weird line because due process is important, esp with all these people calling for automatically suspending people accused of dv and that's wrong.

I agree with you that I thought they'd keep him under a "totally not suspended but really it's a suspension" deactivation because what changed now from Friday? It feels a bit presumptuous to me for the NFL to judge Peterson without letting the system which exists to do just that work its way through things, no matter how frustratingly slow it might seem. If the NFL does suspend him before that (which we're kind of waiting on with McDonald and Hardy, by the way) it would seem both inconsistent and reactionary. What's the worst case, he plays and then is found guilty and they suspend him then? I don't see what's wrong with letting the legal system do its work and dealing with the repercussions of its decision from a league standpoint later.

What I really don't like about this situation is how arbitrary the league is acting. I feel like Goodell and the owners are being driven by public lynch mob sentiment rather than any semblance of objectivity. If the league and owners are going to take it upon themselves to discipline players for off-field conduct, then they better being doing what they're doing according to a written set of rules. If those rules don't exist, then they need to be written immediately.

They are in salary cap hell because of their previous gm and many expected them to regress this year because of all the players they let go. Marty Hurney was a really bad gm and hamstrung their cap for years. I don't see what's wrong with letting the legal system do its work and dealing with the repercussions of its decision from a league standpoint later. Technically, each case is different. Rice plea bargained. McDonald hasn't been charged yet. Peterson just got indicted. Hardy has already been found guilty but some weird ass North Carolina law allows him to appeal to a jury, pretty much giving rich people who can afford multiple trials a mulligan. The Vikings just might be planning to give AP 500 carries this year while waiting for his case next year.
