That's debatable. Michael Vick did a horrendous thing but he did his time and took the punishment for it, and even after that no one really wanted him. Andy Reid took a big chance on him and really there's not many coaches in the league that could've even handled it. Richie Incognito is a douchebag, but just IMO, the severity of his issue was pretty complicated due to him and Martin possibly being friends, and what Rice did is worse. And he's having huge difficulty finding a team, even as a decent lineman and with so many teams in the league with terrible O-lines. It's all about perception. There's teams out there that would kill to have Ray Rice but who knows if they'll ever want that bad PR on them. Ray Rice's girlfriend isn't really making the situation better either with her Instagram posts. He just looks terrible right now and it'll be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Ray Rice's girlfriend isn't really making the situation better either with her Instagram posts. He just looks terrible right now and it'll be interesting to see how the situation develops. This is, I think, the crucial difference. Vick was discovered and went to prison for 21 months. The NFL didn't have to suspend him, really, the legal system did it's work, so there wasn't as much of a PR backlash when Philly took a chance on him. When Vick came back, it felt like he was a man who made a huge mistake, paid the price for it, and truly felt badly for what he had done. Dungy took him under his wing and Vick said all of the right things. I recall remarking at the time "Vick is genuinely remorseful for his mistakes or he's the greatest actor on the planet". There is such a stain on Rice now in the public eye that the PR storm would be awful for any team to sign him. Combine that with the fact that he's a 27 year old RB who looked washed up last year, and I could see his career being over. It just wouldn't make a ton of sense for anyone to sign him.

I hate giving props to ND alum, but the dude's really good. Big, tall, fast, can work short routes too a little.

The video coming out and changing things makes 0 sense to me. If anything I think the (new) video makes it look like it wasn't so bad. The first video we saw was Rice dragging his fiance out of the elevator unconscious. The police report was for assault. What the hell did people think happened? That they were playing a heated game of patty cake and he accidentally knocked her out? I assumed from the first video that she was 'getting lippy' and he just hauled off and knocked her out. I feel like people who are suddenly outraged are either stupid or full of it. What actually happened was that he leans in (to spit on or kiss her reports vary) she snaps back and either strikes him or spits on him he immediately strikes back(perhaps reflexive) then BACKS AWAY. She then charges him and he catches her with another left which pushes her down striking the rail on the way knocking her unconscious. I'm not saying what he did was right, or even acceptable, but I think it is kind of bullshit everyone is ok with her striking then charging him. It's not that she 'brought it on herself' but she certainly escalated the situation by charging him (unarmed people get shot by cops for charging). Also, I'm not saying it comes from a mentally healthy place but some people do have really physical relationships. I have been with women who would of been turned on by the whole event (one I can think of would of been especially turned on by getting knocked out and drug out of the casino). Again I'm not saying it comes from a healthy place but this could of been some foreplay that got out of hand and caught on camera (as basically everything she has said and done indicates without them coming out and saying "this was foreplay"). I think people are right to assume this had everything to do with PR/EZ out for the contract and very little to do with any moral code of the NFL. There are several other players with DV charges and they will be suiting up this weekend. EDIT: Seahawks: First team to repeat in a decade (clairvoyant headline)

Overall though, I do agree how it's dumb how much the league and ravens changed their stance once the video was out. I'm not sure what they thought went on in there other than what we saw. Imo, the only thing the video shows that makes Rice look even more like a whacko is the fact that after he KOs her he just stood there. What a strange thing to do with someone you apparently love. At least go see if she's dying or not or something...

He might not be able to play in the NFL anymore. In fact, I'm surprised how Goodell and the Ravens took a risk on him after a 3 ypc season.

He physically dominated her, and his body language showed no remorse. You assume this was "foreplay". I think a safer assumption is she is completely intimidated, if that even is an assumption at all. What is testimony worth from a person who is intimidated? Nothing. To me, a woman in an abusive relationship is a prisoner. All he has to do is say, "Do me wrong, and I'll kill you." She will believe him. People interview this woman and get her opinion with her abuser in the same room as her. It's nonsense, and really ugly. This is not something our society (or many others) handles well. To me, all "consent" is nulled in physically abusive relationships, where one partner is willing and able to knock the other out cold in a single punch. Their marriage doesn't even exist, imo. It should be dissolved and legally unrecognized, whether she "wants" it or not.

In fairness I much more likely think it is a case of an abusive relationship than anything else (I just don't render life judgements based on some snippets of a moment in someone's life [like others seem able to do...] But even if that is the case, they both need help, not people demonizing them. Although, because I support equal treatment for poor and rich alike, I would be okay with NJ having tried for a more aggressive charge and sentence if that's how they would of treated them if they responded to a project instead. But really I think trying to get people like this help is better than trying to put them in prison (in my state they both would of went to jail). Or I suppose, if you write people like Rice off as a lost cause, you should just give him a choice between execution or life in prison. It's just cruel (to him and any victim) to throw him in jail for a bit and brand him with a scarlet letter so people can shame him for the rest of his life.

Care to link the video you saw because the one everyone else looked at showed a man who hit HIS FIANCE in the face twice with absolutely 0 provocation worth punching ANYONE(let alone your future wife), spitting on her, and then standing over her unconscious body with less regard/remorse than a pro fighter for his opponent. Dude doesn't even give her a once over to see if her face got busted on the railing it hit, he just chills waiting for the elevator doors(must've been quite the view for whoever called the elevator that caused it to open before ground floor; oh I'll wait for the next one, thanks).
